      Revisionist history at it again.

Tintin and Hergé is culturally significant in many different ways and was a product of its time. Enjoy it for what it is, and don't pan it for being what it never could be - a modern take on colonialism.

I love Tintin personally and nothing of my beliefs of the themes in the book, however similar or different will change that. As a kid I travelled strange parts of the world through the eyes of Tintin in a way I never had the opportunity to do in real life, he whet my appetite for seeing the world and exploring different cultures. I could never than Hergé and Tintin enough for that.

So should people not read Shakespeare for its perceived racist colonial attitude?

      • Don’t forget grossly anti-semetic..

      • Don't ask me, I just quoted that part of the wikipedia article to explain why that book was missing.

Seriously expensive this missing story. Tintin in the Congo $42 Delivered @ HaneezAU Amazon AU

  • Great price. I bought for $190 from Amazon, early November.

  • Amazing collection picked up one. Thanks OP.

  • +2

Thanks OP just got one. Along with cash back paid with Zip pay which also has a 10% cash back on Amazon. This is valid only for today.

    • +1

Thanks for the reminder to use Cashback, I never remeber to use it.

  • BTW, this is the paperback versions, but still an excellent price.

    • +2

I saw hardback is actually cheaper, but I got paperback for the nostalgia bonus.

  • The hardcover version is about $30 cheaper and imo looks more visually appealing but that's just me. My mum gave me two of the tintin books that had three stories in it but it'll be good to have the whole collection. My christmas present for the year thank you!

    • any chance to link the hardcover copies for $30 cheaper cheers

      • It's the same link, just select from the 'format' dropdown.

        • thank you great Christmas gift thanks

it says hardcover is compact edition. dont know what it means though…

      • +1

It just means that instead of one story per book it's multiple stories per book. I just prefer books that look more visually appealing personally and i'm happy having compact books but its personal preference. :)

        • thanks for that. as long as no parts taken out / scaled down & tony letters it’d be good 😄

          • @kaleidoscope: I've got two compact books of tintin (obviously different edition) and I read them multiple times when I was younger and they weren't as big as the paperbacks but still visually a good read and text/frames were never an issue for me. Happy to help!

EDIT: If you compare the dimensions the softcover is about 33cm tall vs. 23 for the compact. So physically these books are smaller but really better for bookcases if you think about it.

  • are these actually all separate paperback versions, because the image doesnt look like it would have 23 books. some of the spines look like they mighthave two stories in 1 book. sort of hard to know as there arent any other images, but i think having 23 separate books with those amazing covers would be better than having combined versions.

    Blistering barnacles!

    • Indeed ! A few years ago I paid about $500 all the books (hard cover), not even in a box set, and not including Congo! OF course, that was before I knew about OzBargain!

      • Thundering Typhoons! 😱

  • Softcopy is the full sized A4 copy.
Hardcopy is the A5 copy… not very enjoyable reading IMO.

  • Damn, missed out!

  • Bugger , already expired …. ☹️

  • Got one last night at the reduced price for paperback. Had a $15 credit from amazon too

Used Cashback from zippay and ShopBack.
