New Model Ryobi 36V 5.0Ah-Launch Edition- 18" Brushless Mower Kit $499 @ Bunnings

330

I've had my eyes on the $599 Ryobi 36V Brushless Lawn mower(5.0Ah battery, 46cm blade, 55l catcher) for a while now. Since there were no Black Friday discounts for this model, tonight, I decided to pull the trigger and visited my local Bunnings.

Loaded the box(located close to the cashier in the "specials" section) on my trolley, and before checkout I decided to visit the normal isle where all the mowers sit.

To my surprise, I spotted this new model RLM36X46BL, with very similar specs and $100 lower price! It must be a very new model as it's not listed on the Bunnings website yet. Not only that, this is the "launch edition" box with a 5.0Ah battery instead of the standard 4.0Ah one, "while stocks last" as stated on the red sticker.

This is the product page, the only difference is the upgraded battery for the same price! Compared to the $599 model, and apart from the aesthetics/different handle, it has got a slightly smaller catcher(45l vs 55l) and it doesn't include a mulching plug. The charger is much smaller too and it sits on top of the battery.

Used it already on my small yard, battery only had one bar left and it finished the job beautifully, although the lawn hadn't been cut for more than 6 weeks.

IMHO, it's definitely worth the price, As it's only $100 more than the 18V, non brushless,36cm, 4.0Ah model

Aye, seems like excellent buying, fellow #lawnfanatic!

  • Problem is lawn is dead

      $500 saved ;)

      • I got the old brushless for I think $400. Haven't used it and its been 2 years

Was hoping for the brushless model to go on special this weekend too. And this looks great, but why no mulching plug :(

    RRP where's the bargain?

    • Read better please, I have used bold letters for
those who type faster than they read :)
Hint: Check the red sticker on the photo

Regarding the mulching plug, you can just order one from Bunnings special orders desk. Should cost around $15.

    • I didn't find a mulch plug for this lawnmower.

    • Not sure it’s the same part as the other models though

      • You tell them the model of your mower and they order the specific plug for it. I did this for two other models, including replacement blades. I'd be surprised if they couldn't get it seeing as the other set includes the mulching plug for the same model mower.

        • I hope you are right. I checked the manual, it only mentions the blade in the spare parts(which is the same as the $599 model)

          • +1

@GregFiona: Yeah give it go. I got mulching plugs for two other 18v models and both kits did not come with a mulching plug either.

            • @rlay3: Thank you, I’ll try my luck very soon :)

              • +1

@GregFiona: Was in there today to have a look and they actually had a mulching plug in this model, which fit perfectly. Someone must have asked the same question.

I took a picture of the label.

                • @Goblin36: Thank you!
Update: Bunnings Eastgardens had no idea about this spare part. I had to make an enquiry at the special orders desk and someone will give me a call next week :)

                  • @GregFiona: Yep you need to go straight to specials orders (as mentioned in my original post :))

                • @Goblin36: What was the price?

                  • +1

@GregFiona: Not sure on the price. As I actually just found it in the catcher of the lawn mower as I wanted to see if the mulcher plug from one of the other mowers would fit.

You could call Warrawong Bunnings and ask then to check in the mowers catcher to see if it is still there and how to order it.

The plastic wrap and label were in the catcher and the mulcher in the mower chute.

                  • @GregFiona: "Should cost around $15."

                • -1

@Goblin36: That isn't for this model. I contacted Ryobi about it, and they have said that this model isn't designed for mulching, which is why it doesn't come with a mulching plug.
It would seem that the mulching plug for the other 36V model that is the same size fits this one, but this one isn't designed to do the mulching

                  • +1

@goatmaster: Not sure why this model is not designed for mulching, the are are slots in the bay for the plug to lock. Also, the 18V weaker models do have a mulching plug. This model has got the same blade as the $599 model. When I asked the guy at the mowers isle about the mulching plug, he just told me to just remove the catcher, close the lid and use it without a plug.

                    • @GregFiona: Yeah I used to do this. Works as long as you're fine with the clump of grass that gets stuck in the cavity. It was just easier to buy the plug for me.

  • Just tried my local, none in sight. I asked at the desk and she told me it was a restricted item and bunnings would not be selling it (the mower)…i think she just wanted rid of me as she had a queue.

    • There were at least 3 or 4 boxes at Bunnings Eastgardens yesterday

      Hi, Worker for Bunnings here.

I'm sorry to hear that you had a poor experience but I hope I can clarify the miscommunication.
Unfortunately our systems aren't in the greatest detail and Restricted doesn't tell us anything because it's set by our Reps.
If a store doesn't have the restricted item when others do, there is a high chance they'll never get it. We also cannot order restricted items in either which is a pain.

      • It must be a "very restricted" item as I had troubles registering the warranty. The item was added to my toolbag but warranty was "N/A". I had to contact support and they updated the warranty manually

      • I called up again and got someone different who did confirm that it was restricted but could be ordered by special order. Additionally she also found one at a reasonably local store and had it moved over. I really do think this could be down to assistant. In the second instance I got someone willing to make the little extra effort, i will ensure when i collect mine over the weekend that I appreciate that.

  • Save the $500 for the water bill, water restriction coming

  • I'm confused - box photo says "35L" catcher? (bottom middle)

Edit: Both product manual and Ryobi webpage mention "45L" catcher. It must be misprint on the box!

  • Tossing up between the Ozito Power X Change 2 x 18V Brushless Steel Deck Lawn Mower Kit (46cm, Brushless 3Ah) for $449 vs this.
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-power-x-change-2-x-18v-bru…

    or Ozito Power X Change 2 x 18V Telescopic Lawn Mower Kit (37cm width, Brushed, 3Ah) $399
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-power-x-change-2-x-18v-tel…

Are 2x18V really that bad if you keep them paired for mower use only? I guess 3Ah vs 5Ah (if I'm lucky) is worth the extra.

    • 18V battery lets you use more cordless power tools and makes the tool lighter. 2x18V 5Ah Ozito batteries cost less than a 36V 5Ah Ryobi battery.

Bought a 2nd-hand Ozito 2x18V brushless steel deck mower this week but the previous model which holds 4x18V batteries. You might be able to find it on clearance in some Bunnings stores. 4x18V means longer runtime not extra power.

The steel deck makes the mower alot heavier. If you have to transport the mower i.e. lifting into and out of the car I would get the brushed one.

The 2nd hand brushless was so cheap I couldn't resist but will probably regret it everytime I have to transport it. It is so big, bulky and heavy. In an ideal world I would've got the brushed 37cm cutting width.

I just placed an order for mine through the special orders desk (they will transfer it from another store), but if anyone is interested, Qty 12 at Northland (VIC), Qty 2 at Nunawading (VIC) and Qty 2 at Mernda (VIC)

I've had my eyes on the $599 Ryobi 36V Brushless Lawn mower(5.0Ah battery, 46cm blade, 55l catcher) for a while now.

Unlike the 18V range, I've found the 36V pretty much never go on special unfortunately. Have had to basically pay RRP generally.

Looks like this is a decent deal.

  • Went to Bunnings Edwarstown today and Bunnings Prospect last weekend, there are still stock in both stores.

  • For those who bought this mower, are you happy with the purchase?

    • +2

I have used it a couple of times and I'm more than happy so far. Battery is still on it's first charge :)
Also I bought the mulching plug(see my comment above),perfect fit, but I haven't used that yet

    • +2

Very happy - light, manoeuvrable, quieter (cf. petrol lawnmowers), got the lawn mowed with hardly a sweat, and no more exhaust fumes/smell. Given everything read about battery-powered lawnmowers, did not have high expectations. But was pleasantly surprised. Did whole property in one charge, land was slightly sloped with trees, and grass was high. Was expecting to use the petrol lawnmower on the tall grass one last time, but turned out unnecessary.

      • Do you know approx how big your yard is?

I am looking and probably pull the trigger on one on the weekend but wish I seen it sooner to buy for less the RRP.

I have mix of buffalo grass 455sqm block but large house on that block so hoping it would do it all on one charge.

        • More than likely you will be able to do it all in one charge. My block is about 700sqm, with an average-sized house on it. I also have a mix of grasses including buffalo. There is one finer type, which when tall, has posed a challenge before when the lawnmower blade was a bit blunt. But no issue here.

I think you can still get this deal at Bunnings - saw it recently.

        • +2

Price hasn't changed, last time I went to Bunnings they were still at $499. I'm going to see if I buy one this weekend.

          • +2

@Colombian: Price is the same, just make sure you get the "launch" version(red sticker) that comes with the 5.0Ah battery instead of the standard 4.0Ah one

          • +1

@Colombian: Thanks. I ended up getting the $599 one (same thing in the end but dearer). I couldn't see any of the launch version there unfortuantly so maybe sold out at local bunnings - I should have given a PN to see but o well. Thought about maybe buying the $499 and packaging it back up and returning it under the $599 receipt (I have already started using the one I bought) but I think to much mucking around.

They are an awesome bit of gear though- really suprised how well it cuts.

  • Well guys just got it this morning. Bunnings Edwardstown still has 2 left in stock. Special orders desk is going to contact me next week about the mulch plug. Not that I need it at the moment but it is good to have it just in case.

Now I need the blower and trimmer.

    • So 'special orders' has to contact us to put in the order?
I was thinking of taking GregFiona's description of the mulch plug and put in the order at the Bunnings desk.
      That won't work?

      • +1

I put that order through the "special orders" desk

        • Thanks. I rang and just impossible to get the "special orders" desk at local store. Think I will just front up.

  • Alternative for those on a lesser budget.

  • +1

Well I used it today in my aprox 500 square metres back yard and it was much better than I expected. At the end of the mowing I still had 2 levels of battery left. Very happy with the buy.

  • +2

There was one left at Stafford Bunnings (QLD) at 18:00 on 13/01/20. Both my husband and our neighbour bought one each this afternoon.

  • Anyway to check stock online?

    • +1

I realise it's a bit late to update, but I found that the specific item code RLM36X46BL is not yet listed on Bunnings online, and when I called a couple of stores they could only tell me by looking at the mowers in the shop, not on their computers.

      • Ended up getting the RLM36X46S52 model for the better catcher, handle etc

        Works amazingly well

  • +1

Well I got a call this week for the mulch plug and today I went to Bunnings to pay for it. I also saw they put more stock with the 5Ah battery. $9.78 was the cost of the plug, I'm a happy champ now.
