Google Nest Mini $59 @ JB Hi-Fi

220

According ausdroid google nest mini will be $59 down from $79.

Some may prefer the old one for $39 but they not get local processing update. Not sure of the nest mini has been enabled to do so yet but the chip is there, this would speed up many of the common commands and it apparently learns your often used commands instead of having to go through the servers all the time.

  • Hrmm.. is it really worth $23 more than the Home Mini? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/499853

    • Better speaker.

    • It'll sound better (and has better microphones). The home mini has almost no bass, it'll still play decent music but bassheads will find it lacking.

Also there are apparently equalizer settings in Google Home that lets you tweak the treble and bass levels

Are bassheads really using a mini assistant speaker though?

Maybe it's just me, I don't use them for music outside of my toddlers room so not really reflective of the mass market I guess.

        • The best feature I like is connecting all of them up (including my chromecast) to play music in every rooms of the house.

        • I can't imagine anyone actually trying to listen to music on one.

        • It's small and unobtrusive so it often pass the 'wife approval' test. For me, I have a Home Mini that's hung underneath my computer monitor and I often use that as computer speakers (connected to Bluetooth). My desk hasn't got enough space for proper bookshelf speakers as my 35 inch ASUS monitor takes up most of it.

    • I think it's worth the upgrade. I have a Gen1 in the bedroom and a Gen2 in the living room and you can tell the difference in sound quality. I'll probably upgrade the Gen1 mini when they start coming down in price.

    • I just added more to the description, really depends on if the old model will be updated to process local commands or not. This is my reasoning for wanting to update, the delay with turning on lights bugs me. The key hole hanger on the back is a great feature also.

Don't think sound quality is a reason at all to update, will still sound rubbish.

I've got both. It has much better audio (yet still only as good as its size), and a better microphone(s) that picks up from further away. What that's worth is up to you.

I didn't know they were worth this much. I got sent two of them from an unknown source, yet addressed to me (the from address was just some random warehouse that had no info on Google) a few weeks ago, and I certainly didn't pay for them.

      • If that "random warehouse" was Ingram Micro, the package was likely "bought" from the Google Store. Google use Ingram Micro to distribute (some of?) their products.

Got one for free from Woolies…

Gen1 or this one (which is Gen2)?

      • Google Nest Mini

        So Gen2

  • Google store also selling for $59 as well…

    • I can't find that, still listing at $79?

Not many know this but as of 4 weeks ago, you can now STEREO pair the Gen 1 minis via the home app. Doing this and boosting the bass to max has greatly enhanced the sound quality in my living room.

    • That's a pretty cool idea. I wonder if a gen 1 and v2 would sound unbalanced though

  • Is there a reason to fork more for the google home? It's under 80 now.
