If you don't care about fast transfer speeds it's pretty good for the money.

      • True

      • Not buying one is value for money. To be honest, I haven't used one in like 10 years.

        • +20

I beg to differ. Many people, including myself, still use them. It's great value for things like viewing media on my tv when I don't need a 3.0 drive, putting photos on it to where I don't care if I don't get it back from someone, or using it for things like a bootable recovery drive.

          • +3

@Lachiem8: +1 for the bootable recovery drive.

old PCs always detect USB 2.0 memory sticks better than USB 3.x

also, i like USB 2.0 memory sticks for car stereo units.
it just works better, in any car, that i have tried.

      • Maybe years ago you'd put your resume on it, but you'd just email the file from your OneDrive app on your phone these days.

        • i wouldn't use one Drive :P

    • +2

As a teacher in a public school system it's very practical to have something like this on your keychain to quickly move word files around. Ideally everything is on some file sharing platform but in reality that's not the case

  • +9

Turn it into bootable windows key

      super slow.

      • Much better comparability when using USB 2

    Waiting for Amazon price-match…

  • +10

Great when they disappear to school at alarming rate to hand projects in, and are never returned.

    • +1

Exactly what I'm buying them for. The USB you have to hand in. At this price, I don't care if it ever comes back.
Also great for group projects and then someone "holds on to it".

  • +1

Good for giving people large files and not expecting the USB back.

  • Are there any Domaynes left in Sydney? Seems to be saying nearest is Gosford and then Kotara…

Ah well, others are more convenient anyway.

    • +1

Isnt there still one at North Ryde?

      • That's what I thought, but I think it might be just Harvey Norman now?
Edit - there's still quite a few: Castle Hill, Belrose, Penrith, North Ryde etc.
Weird how they didn't come up. Gosford came up as "not available" and Kotara was "out of stock"

  • Just picked up 10 of them, they weren't marked down on the shelf but the staff were able to work it out.

  • I just grabbed a few. I don't mind that it's USB 2.0, as my laptop only has USB 2.0 ports.

  • Just went and grabbed a few in store. They were reluctant at first to honour them at $2 and said that someone got fired @ JB hifi for "leaking the category early".

  • Just grabbed 8 from the Kedron store. Glad I can give my girlfriend some cheapo ones to lose.

  • I use these mainly for bootable USB as DVD drives are hard to come by these days

  • +5

    Need? No, bought? Yes

    • lol, same here !

  • Most of the JB’s are probably closed now, but if you bought them directly they scanned as $7 and the staff had to check it on the website and mark them down… hopefully fixed for tomorrow!

    • What crappy POS system are they using? Happened so many times before, even had one of the staff members scan with their RF gun and it's the correct price, go to the front and it scans incorrectly

  • Thanks a bunch!
    Will be great for work.

  • Thanks for posting. Bought some.

  • Thanks as my local hv didn’t have any. Bought 5 :)

  • Amazon has matched the b&m store

    • And Joyce Mayne [Gerry Inc.]

  • You won't care if it's a little slower than usb3 when restoring windows or recovering a document or a photo. You'll be just glad to have it.

    • it's actually the exact same speed to insert into device

  • Bought from Amazon:)

  • Is click and collext working for jb?

Keeps on showing as $5 postage for me

    edit: fixed, working now!!! happy

  • +1

I really do love Amazon Prime.

  • Better than the 32GB and 64Gb as they weigh more

  • No longer avail on Amazon

  • How come it costs more zero dollar at Amazon?

  • Just got 4 from HN, three black and one pink. Looks like the pink, blue and green are all gone in Adelaide unless you want to head up to Gepps Cross or Munno Para. Woodville have a couple as well.

  • Still 2 left on Amazon AU.

  • Got 3 at officeworks for 1.90 with the price beat

    • I’ve always wondered what people’s price beat limit was. 10c is admirable, as I wouldn’t bother.

      • To be fair, he saved 30c in total……. :D

        • +1

Only went there as hardly normal was sold out so the 30c was a bonus

  • Picking up 5 of these + a couple of M185 mice at the local JB = $20.

    Thanks OP!

  • Thanks for this. Priced matched at office works. Bought 15… my wife is a kinder teacher and we do a video / slideshow for the kids at the end of the year. New laptop doesn’t have a DVD burner, so this was great timing.

Office works didn’t have any on the shelf… strange that, against a wall of fully stocked racks of usbs. Sent a guy up the ladder to get stock, and the guy price matching was surprised at the JB price but matched no issue.
