If I have understood correctly, the pet filter needs to be changed every month? Does the purifier come with the full supply of filters for 12 months of usage?
Each comes with a pack of 12 pet filters.
If you have a reverse cycle air conditioner, look up 'furnace filter' on amazon, buy whatever filter suits your needs, cut it to the shape of the input on your AC, bung in on. Very cheap and effective way to achieve the same thing. I use it for filtering out wood and bushfire smoke - works great and quickly.

If you mean what I suggested - then yes. Thats what I meant - a split system mounted high up on the wall. Might be a little fiddly to adapt it to a floor mounted one (one on the wall, but down at floor level). The ones with carbon in them are particularly suitable for smoke, but there are all sorts. Would be ideal in Sydney now.
