  • This or the 200d mkii for photography?

  • G'day bargain hunters, I already have an old 500d with 3 lenses that I've had for about 8 years but haven't been using it a lot recently. Thinking selling up and moving to this in the hope that I will use it more as it's more compact, lighter and easier to just chuck in a bag and bring out (the other is pretty well used too). It's also got a few useful features like WiFi and Bluetooth that the old one doesn't have.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether this is a good/bad move?

Only really used for photos, nothing professional but I do enjoy going out and taking good shots. Rely on auto too much but would like to learn a bit more about using other functions.

    • I suspect that you'll be better off with a new iPhone for Photography. These phones have come a long way with Manual Exposure Controls, RAW Files and built-in telephoto lens.

  • +1

If you want to travel light and ready to invest in EF-M lenses than yes.
Otherwise I would probably look at other CANON cameras.

APS-C sensor in a very small body (with a full functionality of bigger cameras) it is where Canon M cameras shine.
Also do not forget that with an EF-M adapter you can use Canon EF-S lenses (100% compatibility) but definitely it will make your camera setup much bigger and heavier.

  • Cheers OP. Just got one as my first entry-level camera
Excited to get into some photography when it arrives
