Why is it "ready" to move to 5w40?
Probably losing oil, sometimes the higher viscous oil helps prevent that.
Burning a bit more than usual. Lost a litre over 10,000kms which is technically in spec and not that bad for age, but given summer is coming won't hurt to move to a higher weight.
No external leaks I'm assuming?
Hopefully it slow's down the consumption a little, keen to hear if it makes a difference.I change oil after every 5000 km on my old prius. If an engine has higher kms or age one shouldnt change oil after 10,000 Km.
@andrewsaws: Are you using fully synthetic oil?
@0jay: Yes i am
@andrewsaws: How many kms is your vehicle at?
@0jay: 280k
@andrewsaws: Recommended to do early oil change. There are so many deals on oil these days. You should change it sooner than 5k.
If that doesn't work, My WRX was burning through more than that even with 5w40. I sometimes swap between Penrite Ten Tenths 10w40 or 15w50 now if there aren't any specials on Penrite HPR 5 or Full Synthetic 10w40 and it makes a pretty big difference.
Sweet cheers! Was just about to buy the 7L from them. Better value buying 2x5L
Good oil. Can't go wrong especially if it suits your vehicle. Use it for all cars in the family.
Picked one up last week.
Also in store had a dmx8018s head unit for $313.49 so couldn't pass that up. Still on their website as clearance for $650, might pay to check when you go to pick up the oil.
Pretty good price. I rekon my older car is ready to move up from 5w30 to 5w40 now.
