Harvey Norman Camera Clear out - 15% off DSLRs 20% off on Compacts & Video e.g. Canon S95 $399

44

Harvey Norman have another one of their sales, might be good might not be depending on your local Harvey Norman since prices vary! Post any good deals in the comments :)

From a previous deal, apparently North Ryde (NSW) is good and Gordon (NSW) should be avoided

Harvey Norman Camera Clear out until 24 July
- Minimum 15% off on DSLR
- Minimum 20% off on Compact digital and Video Cameras

*excludes JVC

Unsure if it includes lenses but I'm guessing not, usually only if it is a bundle…

For example the popular Canon S95 is normally $499: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256977438581/canon-p…
Would come down to $399.20 (with min20% off) which is VERY good for Australian stock! No need to negotiate.

Without any prices to compare products and determine whether this is really a bargain, this should be moved to the forums since it is just advertising a sale…

    • well I'll leave that up to you guys, putting it in the forum means a lot of people will miss it. As I said prices will vary from store to store, I'm sure at least one person will grab something from seeing this..

      • -4

        it's in the posting rules…

        http://tinyurl.com/442uwtk

        • there you go JV - Canon S95 for $399 assuming MIN 20% off

        • -4

there you go JV - Canon S95 for $399 assuming MIN 20% off

how is that a bargain when i can get them for around $320 with an Aust warranty ???

          http://www.shopbot.com.au/m/?m=Canon+S95&order=lh&page=2

        • +3

LOL jv, so young. I can tell you now without even looking that no way is that Australian stock with genuine canon Australia warranty. Paying imported prices for imported stock and service is very different. Also does that include shipping?

        • ok, if someone has gotten the S95 for $399 do post it here

  • -1

    *excludes JVC

    i'm offended by that !!!

    • Haha most people don't give a rats about JVC :P

      • +1

most people here don't give a rats about Hardly normal discounts. :P :P

  • +3

Normally won't see anything good I think.

    • true but sometimes you will, doesn't hurt to check it out if you are looking for a new camera :) maybe even use it to haggle/price match (ow) elsewhere…

      • +1

        true but sometimes you will

so post a bargain then ? the s25 you posted is still $80 more after the discount…

        • I have but not for a S25 and certainly not for importing from overseas, even still the price is comparable

  • +4

they jack up the prices then apply the discount. old trick

    • +1

atleast they are not advertising upto 20% off

    • true but the trick is to find a Harvey Norman that doesn't do that, some stores are honest that way ;)

      • true but the trick is to find a Harvey Norman that doesn't do that,

there shouldn't be any 'tricks' if the sale prices are listed…

    • +1

NO, they do NOT jack up the prices. HN prices are NORMALLY 20-25% more than a discount retailer.

  • +2

Went into the local store yesterday to take advantage of this sale and the sales person denied any knowledge of it, and offered me a $5 reduction on a $298 camera - Jerk! Given that we're 20k's out of town I really didn't appreciate having to come home to get a print out from the site and go back in this morning.

Be aware that if their shelf prices are supposedly from a previous catalogue you may not get the full 20 percent off (as advertised on a compact) the shelf price, but 20 percent of their list price on HN site instead.

    • +1

The only time you can get a deal from HN is from price matching someone else. It works rarely and randomly.

    • So did they honor it? which store?

  • +2

Jacked up prices on the D7000. Still dearer than JB hifi after whatever lousy discount they have.

  • +2

they jacked up the price nearly double and apply a 15%-20% off.
    dirty trick.

example: Nikon line > nikon d90, nikdon d3100 are way over priced. Other models are the same. all canon EOS models are almost double street price.

    I wouldn't even call this a sale.

    • +1

Totally agree, I am pretty sure prices on their website a few days a go were definitely lower!

    • which store? so we can avoid as above

  • +1

    Canon S95 on HN website = $499
    Canon S95 in HN store = $599.95
Guy on the phone said there was 10% off at the moment…. LOL

at $499 less 20% I would be tempted. Their website even lists a "Best price guarantee" - laughable!

    • which store? at least we can single out the specific franchises which are dodgy.

For example, look here at a previous sale: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/45648
Apparently North Ryde is good but Gordon to avoid

  • How about already discounted product like Panasonic Lumix DMC-S1 Digital Camera product $98, wondering they will give additional 20% off.

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256975770778/lumix-d…

    • I don't think it usually includes items already on sale but 20% off the normal shelf price may work out cheaper…

  • +1

% off in hardly normal is just rubbish, the franchise store will jack up the price and won't even match the price on their own website. From previous experiences.

  • This is just advertising a sale? Doesn't even sound like you have picked up a 'bargain' from this sale motlking? That S95 price you put up as an example remains theoretical. I would still recommend anyone looking for well priced camera equipment to buy from the reputable Aus based grey importers, of which there are many thesedays.

    • well we don't know if it is "theoretical" or not. The normal price is on their website, they have a minimum of 20% off compact cameras. Your advice to go for a grey importer (paying over $400) may not be wise in this case since it would cost more than this. Even if it was more expensive by small difference it is still worth it to purchase locally rather than grey importing with risk of sending a faulty camera overseas and not have a store front/real person to deal with. We are not talking hundreds of dollars here.

  • goodluck with the S95 @ $399

although superceding model should be announced within 1 or 2 months

    • do you have info on that?

      • +1

well the S90 and S95 were announced in August of 2009 and 2010 respectively..

but yeah just rumours.. hopefully though =\

        • ah ok nice well upgrades are always good! S95 will still be very competitive price wise even when it comes out though…

  • +1

HN could go either way, depending on which one you go to, but there are bargains to be had if you find the right one. During their last 20% off sale (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/45648) I went to 4 HN stores before finding one that provided good service and a good bargain. Managed to pick up the Canon 60d with Single lens kit (18-55mm), camera bag and extended warranty for $1280 total. They didn't have one in stock at the time - they had to order one in for me. Took around 4 weeks to arrive, but I was very happy with this purchase.

    • Thanks for that info Gengar. Do you mine telling us which store this was?

      • +3

This was at HN Woodville in SA. The previous stores I went to were lacking in stock, service, or both.

The first place I went to was Marion. Ridiculously high price on the camera, and they refused to match the online price from the Harvey Norman website (which, from memeory, was on special for around $1379 at the time. It has increased significantly since then.)

Then I went to the Adelaide City store, where there were 2 staff behind the counter, one was with a customer and the other was looking busy on their store computer. I didn't see the camera on their shelf so i waited to ask someone. After standing there for 10 minutes without acknowledgement, I left.

Next up was Gepps Cross. I was offered assistance fairly promptly and I asked if they had any Canon 60d's, to which the guy simply replied "sold out" and quickly went on to another customer.

Finally the last place I went to was Woodville which appears to be a fairly new store and I had never been there before that day. I was served quickly here too. They didn't have the camera in stock, but they offered to order one in for me (which I hadn't considered as an option until it was offered.) Their shelf price was higher than the website but they matched it without question and offered to take off the additional 20% off that. They did try to upsell me a bunch of accessories and the extended warranty but they weren't pushy about it - it was more of a normal conversation than a "hard sell". The 20% off promotion had long ended by the time the camera came in, but the store honored the agreed price from that weekend.

mm i got my s95 for $420 when it first came out at Harvey Normans. remind me to post a pic of receipt later

  • +2

Nunawading was out of stock, picked one up from Morrabbin.
Hate the senior staff at Nunawading - they don't care about customers at all.
Hear good things about this camera, big test tomorrow at kids party.
Oops forgot to mention the price was $400

    • Nice, glad you were able to get it! Keeps the skeptics out there a little quiet :)

      • Also forgot to mention I purchased the s95. Box was labeled $599.95 and she wanted to take 20% off that. But I showed her the $499 standard price on their own website and agreed to $400.
Didn't what to bargain it down to $399.

  • We get ripped off on canon s95.
    $380USD in America http://m.bestbuy.com/m/e/product/detail.jsp?skuId=1218369&pi…

Yep was able to pick one up for $399 from Highpoint HN, wanted to give me 20% off the 599.95 listed on the box but as above showed them the website and they agreed, tried the Werribee store and was told straight out no stock and even highpoint said they rarely have stock and im presuming what little stock most stores had was sold today as there were quite a few calls about it from my convo with the sales guy. Pretty excited as i didnt wanna take my 60d which is my only other camera up to splendour in the grass next week

    • Glad you guys were able to benefit from my post :)
