Any reviews on this fridge?
its 4.5-star energy rating predecessor GB-450UPLX scored the highest in every Choice fridges test last year and this April at 83%
the current cheaper 3.5-star version GB-455UPLE scored 80% last month
LG fridges have a problem with their compressor and there is a class action going on in US. I thought of buying one couple of months back but a friend had LG he advised not to. Just make sure its not the same compressor tech.
I have the 450 model. Similar enough to make some comments on user experiences of this one…
Freezer drawers make it hard to store bulky items. We also found that the freezer let bread and icecream go soft unless we had it at the coldest temp setting. Never expected that from modern fridges.
Fridge shelves and door shelves have limited adjustment positions. Fridge door: Beer stubbies don't fit very well. Neither do wine bottles. If you adjust the middle door shelves up to allow wine bottles on the bottom of the door, then the higher shelves become nearly useless to store anything in.
Shelves in the fridge have minimal adjustment as well… The gaps between them are not small enough or large enough to allow positioning to make effecient use of the spaces. Eg, a 6 pack of beer won't fit on its side on the shelves due to not enough height. Adjust the shelf up, and there is now too much room, but not enough for the beer to stand up-right.
Overall, the linear compressor cooling fan is noisier than expected. To add to this, for some silly reason they only added the 2-step folding shelf on the stainless steel version which would help with the problem of not being able to fit taller items. This is even though most retailers advertise that it comes with it! From what I could find the shelf is about $70 to buy separately.
A few good things to note:
- The Fresh Balancer® tub for vegies and fruit is great, as it continually keeps stuff fresh for longer
- This thing is efficient, my electricity cost dropped quite a bit from my old fridge
- Lighting is nice and brightI agree with it being a bit noisier than expected but I find this is usually when the weather warms up.
FYI, I got the LG GB455BTL.
