  • What's the attraction of borderless TV?

    • minimal bezel so looks good

whats the attraction of unibody aluminium? its purrrty

also if ur rich enough to put 2 tvs side by side, minimal bezel makes the image more seamless

      • +19

What a contradiction - if you're rich enough to put 2 TVs side by side, you wouldn't be buying Kogan.

      • +10

What a contradiction - if you're rich enough to put 2 TVs side by side, you would rather buy one big ass expensive TV instead.

      • +10

what a contradiction, - if you're rich enough to put 2 TVs side by side, you wouldn't be on this deal looking for a kogan tv

      • +6

what a contradiction, - if you're rich enough to put 2 TVs side by side, you wouldn't be waiting until the end of September for delivery.

what a contradiction, - if you're rich enough to put 2 TVs side by side, you wouldn't be on OzBargain.

What a contradiction - if you're rich enough to put 2 TVs side by side, you errrrr…. i forgot what to write

  • I wonder if this is actually a Sammy in disguise?

    • +9

      Absolutely no chance.

  • +3

    kogan. enough said.

    • +3

it probably has a border. they will just tell you after you purchase it ;)

      • +4

Yeah with Kogan is most likely not even a TV, its a kettle or toaster. Fell for the tablet rubbish a month back, wont go down that path again. Its a good price but the manufacture is painful

      • +8

they forgot to assemble the border during production, so its a win-win situation for Kogan ;)

  • I know this is a stupid question but I just got to ask:

Can i play NTSC PS2 on this tv? the specs says TV system is PAL/SECAM.
I just wanted to know if NTSC devices can be played on this tv.

    Cheers.

Similiar to Sammy 9 - No way. Honestly, more like AWA or one of those weird, you've never heard of before brand.

    • Edge lit LED - in a way, a form of cost saving.. though it does make the panel thinner.
    • Kogan remote - the frequencies it uses interfere with pretty much all low cost DVD players and some Karaoke machines.
    • From past experience, some of Kogan TVs come with basically a 1 page documentation in the box.
    • Hopefully, the LED backlight will address the horrible backlight bleeding problem most Kogan LCD TVs have.
    • The colour shift problem on Kogan TVs is quite bad. Viewing angle isn't great either (the colour shift issue obviously contribute to that). I wondered whether they get rejected panels.
    • Can the TV support 60Hz properly? Otherwise, forget about connecting a PC or laptop to the TV. Also forget about any device that supports 1080p Auto mode. They tend to default to 1080p@60Hz. It is really painful that I have to remember to set my blu-ray player to 50Hz… otherwise, the movie motion is so jerky.
    • Does it support 1:1 pixel mapping mode? If not, again, don't bother connecting a PC or laptop to TV (even if you tweak the horizontal/vertical scaling parameters (and that's assuming your PC/laptop supports it), the display is still not crystal clear - still blurry).

You get what you paid for. For a TV, it is worth getting a proper brand one.
My friend talked me into buying a Kogan TV before. I regret buying one. Sorry, no more Kogan product for me - ever - no matter how cheap.

Expected dispatch date: 30th September 2011 —> need I say more?

I looked at one of those cheapy brand TVs before and guess what? The remote looks identical to my Kogan TV's remote. The TV also looks the same (except different brand name).

Actually AWA has quite a history in Australia.. The AWA Building in Sydney is a landmark.

Don't remember the old one's being crap… caught up with history on Wiki, looks like they they sold the brand rights off to Woolies for BigW and TrickyDicky to use after hitting tough times.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amalgamated_Wireless_Australasi…

      • +2

AWA might have been good 50 years ago but they are shite now

      • +3

The AWA name was sold off a long time ago for consumer electronics. They are very average quality Chinese units that get pumped out en masse without as much as a thought to R&D. They serve a purpose, but they are a few generations behind with regards to PQ.

I would seriously pick up the Aldi unit for $599 with better warranty and much better price.

    • +3

Thank you for saving me the effort of writing this up.

Voting negative based on the following:

      • You won't receive this TV until October
      • Compared to the Aldi unit for $599 ($300 less), I can't see a single benefit here. This TV is not borderless, despite all claims otherwise. It may use LED over CCFL, but it offers no discernible benefit on entry level TVs such as these.

This is not a -'ve against the OP, your efforts are appreciated, but the product just isn't better than countless other TVs we can touch and feel several months before you ever get to look at this.

      • why would october delivery be a reason to neg - this is part of the deal… either you area happy or you are not
the 2nd point is very reaonable - just that 1st point is bollocks (thus am not contesting the vote in general - but why put that point 1st??)
its not like they are trying to conceal this piece of information

    • +1

Funny, cause i am sat at home waiting for Toll IPEC to deliver my Kogan right now. It is just for a bedroom, didnt need a full on brand.

I haven't had to wait too long for dispatch only the 2nd full day (expected) waiting for Toll to deliver. They are crap, crap, crap. Don't deliver at the weekend or after 5pm weekdays. Why did Kogan sign up for a courier that cannot service the majority of their customers…..crazy business choice but MUST be cheap for them because average Joe's need to take time off work to sit and wait for them.

Kogan the Sammy 9 for the discerning Bogan

    • "Kogan the Sammy 9 for the indiscriminate Bogan"

I fixed that for you. No way any discerning dude, bogan or otherwise, goes with this as a Sammy 9 alternative.

    • hahaha

    • +1

Also comes with free moccasins and a flannelette shirt.

  • +1

Not sammy, why would samsung want to sell a competting tv under an another name

  • +2

kogan's bogans will love this. Just another round on ACA and TT and these will be flying

  • +3

$850 seems very expensive, espeically for a kogan

  • wtf is a sammy ???

    • samsung?

    • +1

It's an award you get at the British Sandwich Awards.

      No. Really.

    • the bread combination that you demand your wife to make

    • my freind at works name is sammy !!!

      • cool story bro.

  • Price seems good but it's not stellar compared to other TVs (note recent Aldi 47" for $650, but with 'borders'). The real question is, why would anyone want to order a TV now and wait over 2 months to receive it when stores like JB Hifi would have half a dozen similar TVs on display for immediate delivery?

    Edit: Didn't notice a PVR is included. Still a 10 week wait…

    • +1

Haha, I was able to enable PVR on my Series 6 sammy by accessing the Hotel Mode/hidden menu.

  • +4

my god… is it that hard to write samsung ? :D

    • In Korea, it's pronounced as some-soong instead of sam-sung.

  • Is it just me or the TV looks to have borders albeit thinner than usual :/

  • +3

I'd prefer the Bauhn from Aldi - at least you can take it back anytime in your first 2 months of ownership if you aren't happy.

  • +1

With the way tv prices are dropping the kogan will be overpriced by 30th September.
Even if you were interested would you wait over 2 months.

    • +1

I think 30th September is pretty ridiculous too considering it's the last day of the month on a Friday. Great, you might "dispatch" it Friday, 30th September, but who is to say I will get it before mid-October?

  • Kogan 46" "Borderless" FHD LED TV w/PVR $850.83 - Similar to the Sammy Series 9,Sammy Similar to the sony, sony Similar to the gold, gold Similar to the life.

  • It is cheaper (ie bargain) in the long run to buy a quality brand (and that does not include anything sammy/samsung..)

  • +6

Vapourware. You're buying a product that hasn't even been assembled yet.

Kogan is just waiting for chumps to get on and buy them, so he can call his factory in shenzhen and ask them to order a container load of TVs without borders!

  • +3

Can I pay extra for Border Protection?

    • +1

No, it's meant to be a bargain. Paying extra is out of the question.

  • +1

Kogan may be endorsed by Current Affairs programmes, but what do they know. Kogan is famous for a Samsung inside statement. Even if it was true, why would Samsung sell their best panels to Kogan. A more likely scenario is that, if Samsung did sell Kogan the panels, they would be the rejects (allegedly).
