The real premium fan is where I keep my money.

  • I could buy 6 fans from Big W and still have change left over for ice cream. Why is this $200 RRP?

    • +6

These are about 6 x better than cheap Big W fans

Not with a DC motor mate.

      • DC air is cooler. LOL.

        • just need that water mist to go with …

DC fans run quieter and usually got more speed settings. I bought 2 of them (older Kogan model?) 2 years ago and for us it's been worth it, can set it to a low speed at night with next to no noise.

    • +1

On their highest setting do these normally move more air than the cheap non DC models?

I can't seem to find that info. I know some of the DC ones have more blades that help also.

    • it seems like DC is the way to go? anything with DC for fan is better hey?

I bought a DC fan from Bunnings a couple of years ago to use before we had our ceiling fans installed; for sleeping, there is no substitute for the quietness of a DC fan. Some people like that electronic hum/whine that AC motors make though.

      • +1

I've had DC motor fans where they make a nice white noise type sound, perfect for me for sleeping.

        • On mine I find the blades and the air make a whooshing noise, but there is no noise from the motor or electronics at all.

Last week there was free shipping being offered. Here's hoping the price drops and free shipping to bump before the year is out!

Aldi fan is a better deal IMHO, $79.99. There were a few at Gungahlin ACT yesterday

    • can anyone vouch for this Aldi ?

      • You've got 60 days to return it if you dont like it.

    • Thanks for mentioning and may be a better unit, idk, but the Aldi has a seperate AC adaptor and wire rather than the integral one with a standard supply cord/plug like the Kogan.
P's & M's either way but I prefer the Kogan in this regard.
I do like the return's and store convenience of Aldi however.

    have this and its brilliant

… it does look to be a different model than previous deal, however…

Have this and highly recommend it

  • "Ultra quiet and energy efficient DC monitor fan"

My monitor doesn't even have a fan!

  • DC fans run quieter and usually got more speed settings.

I find with ac fans I don't have to use white noise to help me sleep

also they given are not energy hogs, would there be a substantial savings wrt electric bills by switching to a dc fan?

    • would there be a substantial savings wrt electric bills by switching to a dc fan?

i'm keen to know this too

      No.

I have two dc fans and I tested the power consumption versus an AC fan of the same size (outputting approx the same volume of air) and there is very little difference in wattage or noise.

The claimed power savings and reduced noise levels are only relavant because the fans can be operated at much lower speeds.

That said, being able to operate the fan at low speeds is well worth the investment IMHO.

DC fans on the market at the moment are also built to a much higher standard (quality) than the $20 ac fans.

Bought this last summer. Fantastic fan, the ease of the remote and the lcd panel (wjhich switches off after 10 seconds) is great. Means i dont have to move from bed to turn off the fan.

This is the newer model. Let's hope this one remembers the last speed set, something the old model didn't.

Choice rated the Kmart $89 Anko wifi fan a better deal than the $hundreds dyson fan.

  • Got this last year, great fan super quiet at night for the air flow.

I bought this the other day. Very sturdy fan and is solid. First 3 speeds are super quiet then it gets louder from 4 onwards. Free express delivery if you sign up to Kogan First then cancel Kogan First after delivery.

    • Do you think at ita fastest it moves more air than a standard pedestal fan?

      • Just tried the high setting. It did not blow me away so probably similar than standard fan. I bought it for the lower quiet settings to use at night.

  • Thomas Edison is at it again. That DC shill!

I do have this fan and it's pretty good. Bit of a PITA to move around because the base is so heavy. The upside is it wont fall down easily because the base is so heavy.

Mine arrived today. Set it up and it is very quiet in modes 1-3. Wife hates having the fan on at night so the timer and quietness on low modes has even got her approval.

  • Thanks OP, I just ordered one.
