These are a great machines, but both mine and a friend's failed before three years. Both were repaired, one under extended warranty and one under ACL. This is a decent price

    • What goes wrong with them? I bought one couple months ago. Amazing machines- never go out for coffee LOL

    • Would you happen to know how much it costs to have them repaired?

      • No idea as it wasn’t stated, just done and returned

        • ACL? What did you say? that a machine that price should last longer than 3 years?
The black puck with holes behind the shower screen does start to crack after a couple of years affecting the even flow of water. Breville insist its normal wear and tear. Its only a $10ish replacement part, so I didn't bother pushing any further with it.

Had mine repaired out of warranty (ACL), after the machine decided to display the boiler cleaning reminder for the first time. This is after I have always used demineralised water. I performed the procedure as per manual, opening the two front lower drain screws, but they wouldn't seal after cleaning (perished o rings?). I will ignore that reminder in the future.

Mine was tripping the circuit breaker and had water pump and seals replaced. The other stopped producing coffee so maybe the water pump too? I’m not 100% sure

My one broken twice, 1 year 6 month and 2 years 5 months. The second time, I spent $300 on the reparation at Breville centre. The machine has been used less than one cup per day.

May I ask how to apply for the ACL? If possible I'd like to get my money back.

I'm not sure about claiming after the repair/payment. I usually tell them that under consumer Law a coffee machine should last more than 3 years and it has suffered a major failure and can they please fix it.

When you're in the price range of Italian-made espresso machines, I struggle to see the appeal with these mudflap* espresso machines. For $2000 you could have a machine full of brass and stainless steel - like a Lelit or Rancilio - as well as a good grinder. You'll easily get 5-7 years out of a setup like that and parts/servicing are cheap.

Or there's the plasticy Breville which, in 2-3 years, will be landfill. Servicing these machines is a nightmare and they are not built to last.

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer on the deal. But junk at any price isn't a bargain IMHO.

Ehh this is aimed at a different crowd. The auto tamp of the built in grinder, and the auto milk frothing makes this just a side step to the super automatic machines.

Agree on the terrible build quality for the price, and I've heard plenty of early repairs & retirements of the Breville espresso machines.

Also they'd probably want to spend a good chunk of your budget on a good quality grinder to feed a decent bit of Itallian brass.

        100% a different crowd.

If you want to geek it out with coffee adjustments, this isn't for you. That being said, this thing is frustratingly good at how automatic it is.

well yeah you're not going to hear people who are happy with them come online and go on about it, our machine has been going for 4 years no issues and build quality is fine.

Convinience is key here, if I want a barista-made coffee when I'm feeling lazy, I'll go to a cafe.

I have this machine and it's pretty decent! I've heard about some durability problems but I'm about 2 years in (I think) and no problems yet (fingers crossed). I thing the auto tamp and milk frothing function is very convenient for a beginner especially when it's all built it there isn't much mess left behind whereas with a separate grinder and manual tamping could leave a bit of mess behind.

Have already seen a few of these come in for repairs outside warranty, and they can't be more than a few years old.

Seem to be very similar internally to the older machines, which typically have growing issues at 4-5 years.

Best case is you catch the leaks before they cause too many issues and it costs you a couple hundred bucks in repairs. Other end of that is it damages expensive components that are labour intensive to replace, and you're in for a $500+ repair. Or Breville simply stop providing the parts needed to repair it.

Good machines while they last, certainly capable of making a good coffee, but the planned obsolescence is real.

Certainly and sadly applies to 99 percent of everything we get sold these days "but the planned obsolescence is real"

    • Perhaps you could make a video for ideal maintenance to assist owners. I don't own one, but you sound technically knowledgeable, and could perhaps show a strip down and seal check etc that would bring additional life to these machines? Kudos if you have ther energy to do it

  • I bought one 5 years ago. Paid only $1400 at DJ, combined with a DJ Amex offer. It still runs well, but I suspect the pump solenoid is going. This price is too high for what it is though.
