    Does anyone know why it has a separate power input?
    I thought that 2.5" drives are supplied by the USB cable and not by a separate cable
    Does this mean there are two usb cables … one to provide power and the other for data transfer?

      Thats correct, however most newish PC's well, probably pc's less than 3 yrs old will only need the one cable.
