      • Or Kogan or belong or amaysim. Oh so many

      • Honestly aldi is good. 18gb/$25 no lock in contract, with data banking. You can get cheaper if you lock in/prepay 12 months with some of the other suggestions but that makes it hard to jump at deals like this too.

      • +1

I am happy with the circles.life connection, sim was delivered almost overnight, is priced competitive enough to challenge long term prepaid plans.

        • +1 for Aldi

Data bank is wonderful and I wish more providers did it.

  • For those looking to buy and cancel, the ETC for the contract may be $390 but there is likely another device pay out fee of the RRP (less any payments). Any comments from people who got the p30 previously?

    • +3

No there is no device pay out fee, $390 that's it. This JB plan is BYO plan.

    • +1

No, you pay for the phone outright at JB, they give you a gift card to pay the remainder of the phone (you pay 199). So only ETC. This is what happened on p30 anyway.

      • Thanks for the replies. That is great if they do it as a gift card to make up the difference. Does that mean it also comes with an invoice for the value of the phone?

  • I'm currently with Telechoice, anyone know if porting in from Telechoice is eligible given Telechoice is a Telstra MVNO? Or will I have to port out to a different network ?

    • Seems telstra mvno is not a problem, they just don't like boost or belong because they are Telstra subsidiary.

      • What about 'Belong'. It's often excluded from these JB/Telstra port-in offers

        • Yeah, read my reply again…. i said that already

      • Good to know. Keeping my fingers crossed.

  • when they have Pixel 4xl deal i will considered it

    • +10

      Ok cool

    • +3

      Thanks for told us

  • +1

Just ported out, apparently the number has to be with an alternative provider for at least 28 days prior to porting back to Telstra but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Hoping it ports tonight and I'll try a few JB's tomorrow.

Any tips? I'm assuming manually entering details on computer as apposed to calling Telstra?

    • The longer you leave it the better. Why don't you wait a week? The deal hasn't even started yet I don't think..

    • Who did you port out to? I'm on a jb hifi/telstra plan ending in 2 months and looking to port out and wait for new deals.

      • Amaysim. Port out took 15 minutes. Leaning towards the $500 GC as my pixel 2 is still in decent condition and it's only a 12 month plan, so this time next year I can just do a similar deal again.

        • +1

I want this deal but have 2 months left on my Telstra /jbhifi contract. Sigh.

    • 2 days ported out and I came back fine

      • Didn't have to wait a month?

  • Can anyone tell me if these plans have excess data shares or not?

    • +1

Only business plans have data sharing.

      • Sorry I meant excess data charges I wanted to know if it comes with Telstra's peace of mind add on

        • +1

Quote from the current $65 JB hifi mobile plan critical information summary

          Extra Data
If you use more than your Monthly Data Allowance, we will
automatically add extra data to your service in blocks of 1GB
for $10 (Extra Data). Extra Data is for use in Australia and
expires at the end of your billing month and is not sharable
with other services on your account.

      • telstra family plans have data sharing. i've had it since last year, was one of the jb plans just like this one. and they usually give you an extra 5gb or so bonus for being on the family plan

        • telstra family plans have data sharing.

They did, but they were removed in July last year.

  • Do you have to port in , or you able to get a new number provided by Telstra?

    • +1

      Both are allowed.

      • -1

        you sure?

        • I am sure that this is not the right tone to ask for help.

  • Guy at JB told me it's Pixel 4 64GB (not 128GB and not XL) and it's for ports to Telstra only. So if you want it and you are Telstra already, you need to port out to non-Telstra and then back to Telstra.

    • +1

Are you eligible if you are not a telstra customer yet but want to use their number.

  • Does a 36 month contract include a 36 warranty on the handset?

    • Highly unlikely.

      • +1

The carriers seems to provide a 24 warranty for 24 month contacts. It would be great if they did the same with longer contracts.
        https://www.choice.com.au/electronics-and-technology/phones/…

        • Yes because they are protected by the manufacturer warranty.

I'd totally support 3 year warranty for phones if they are sold under 3 year contract but then again I would also the like to see 6 year warranty for any car I buy and finance through dealer for 6 years. Not having a go here, I really mean it :)

      • +1

Little late to the party but I am sure the ACCC would ensure that if a phone is sold on a 36 month contract, the warranty period should cover it.

  • I'll get the deal on Telstra when it goes live, I want the option to add the $10 international calling pack which apparently can't be added to these JB/GG plans

    • Wait, so you can't just contact Telstra and add international calling via live chat?

      • It's not clear whather it can be added to these plans…feedback from WP and OzB seems to suggest no…

        • I got the pixel 2 on a deal similar to this almost 18 months ago (i.e. via JB) and went on Telstra chat and added international calling. No issues.

  • I have 2 Optus contracts ending on Dec and was going to go JB HiFi tomorrow to get 2x $500 gift cards.

But now I am faced with interesting dilemma. To Pixel 4 or not Pixel 4. I love my s10e more than I used to love my old s7 edge and I don't need yet another phone. But the deal is just so good.

And what makes it worse few days ago I decided if I'd get a Pixel any time soon I'd get the 3 instead of the 4 as the 4 turned out to be quite a disappointment.

  • Damn - just signed up to the existing $500 gift card deal today, with a view to buying the Pixel 4 64GB.

  • Do I actually need a number to port in? Or can I simply be a new customer. Not sure I can be bothered signing up somewhere pre-paid just to port since my plan is to immediately cancel and effectively get a Pixel 4 for $589 ($199 + $390 ETC), mostly since I can pay the $199 with gift cards I got from previous deals.

    • You don't need to port in. Just sign up with a new number.

  • Ahhh if only I still wasn't in the 2XL contract with Telstra. Great deal and all but this is better I think.

  • Is the phone locked to telstra?

    • No

  • If you're already an existing customer and locked into a contract with Telstra, what are the chances you can sign up for this deal without porting out and in and simply getting a new number?

    • +4

I confirmed with Live Chat you can do this. I'll keep my current contract (from the old Pixel 2 deal) until December and this will be a new number. When the old contract is up they can "merge" the two, cancelling my old plan and bringing my number to the new plan.

      • I'm in the same boat with the pixel 2 deal…good to know what you can do this. But a part of me doesn't trust you can merge the plans.

        • +1

I did it with the 2xl, but to say it was a PITA is an understatement, they let go of the number I wanted to keep and it had to be escalated quite high for them to be able to get it back. I ended up with another $10pm credit due to being stuffed around so my plan ended up being $39pm which is good but it took a lot of my time to get it sorted.

      • Awesome!

I'm out of contract now with Telstra. I might just sign up today.

  • As my current Telstra contract ends in 17 months , I may just sign up as a new customer and get a new number. Then cancel the plan effectively rendering my new sim number ‘dormant’. Stick my existing sim (with number I’m currently using ) in Pixel 4 and I’m good to go. Cost of $589….

Of course I’m interpreting ‘new customer’ to mean ‘new number’

  • +3

I'm hoping they do the Pixel XL on this deal by charging the difference in price between the Pixel and the XL on top of the $199…here's hoping…

  • Probably a subjective call, but which is a better, this or the S10e deal?

  • -1

Can someone check my logic based on reselling the S10e and Buds?

    Item Value
    S10e $850
    Galaxy Buds $150
    Upfront -$99
    P4XL -$1,279
    Preorder Voucher $150
    Net -$228
    • +4

Your S10e price is ambitious. They're selling new for ~$750 on eBay.

Aren't you in the wrong thread? :)

      • I was going more off facebook market I guess but point taken.

And well, I'm most interested in the P4XL which some others here are as well.

    • You're also paying $780 for the phone plan if you're keeping it, $390 if you're not. Ie, no matter what you do, there is at least a $390 cost to add.

  • Any news on XL deal with JBHIFI, I'm assuming not?

    • +2

JB allows change of mind unopened returns, and the discount is done via giftcard?

What's to stop us buying the pixel 4 xl by returning the pixel for store credit and buying the pixel 4 xl?

      Does this sound right?

      • Asked instore and the guy said if you return the device, you'd only get $199 back.

    • +1

My local JB (Charlestown) said no deal on XL or 128gb model but "who knows in future?".

  • +1

    pixel 4 looks good

  • i'm sure there will be a better deal in a month or two, at leat on the same Pixel 4 because that model is not appealing at all due to battery size.

    • Unlikely, perhaps in 4~6 months.
As for the battery, some people are reporting 5hour screen on time, which IMO is decent. Pixel 4’s battery is only 10% smaller than S10e in terms of raw capacity, but we all know capacity is only a part of the battery life equation, software optimisations and other hardware plays a big part too. Besides, with this deal you are paying significantly less than the RRP, around $650 for the phone (after discounting the real value of the plan), which is in the Pixel 3a price bracket. At that price it’s a good buy, even if the battery life is less than ideal.

    • +2

I agree. I've seen a reviewer saying he can only get 3.5hrs sot on lte mode.
My gut is telling me pixel 4 will depreciate real quick (at least 64gb model will).

      • +2

Here is a pixel 4 battery test : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pxYxPSbl_s (4hrs 47 min with almost max brightness, no LTE, @ 60hz, under some heavy use e.g: benchmark loops, gaming, video recording etc..)
Last year's Pixel 3 battery is not much bigger (2915mah), but the 64GB model still retails for around $850 in big box stores and fetches around $700 on eBay. Here we are effectively paying around $650 for a phone on release day. Even if it drops to 1/2 of the RRP in a year (i.e: down to $500) you are only going to loose $150 by the end of the contract/12 months. My plan is to sell this off for around $4~500 in a year and upgrade to the next pixel.

  • When does the deal end?

    • +1

Spoke to JB rep on the phone today and she said s10e only goes for a week so would assume Pixel is the same.

      • Nice. Thanks buddy

    • Confirmed to expired on the 30th October

  • -4

Everything apple pro compared this to the iPhone. This is gash

    • Wonder if this takes the cake as the worst comment ever on OzB?

  • +1

Anyone manage to get upgraded to an XL?

  • +3

Just came back from JB, does not apply to new numbers. Must be a port.

    • So you just get a new number on another provider first?

      • The guy was willing to do that for me but I didn't have time. Worth a shot.

        • I mean, just get a new sim and activate it and then port it over. Essentially a new number

          • @mistararrar: I bought an Optus sim on the way to JB. Activated it while the nice JB person waited for me and the port is happening.

    • Go buy a prepaid sim at woolies?

  • Was just about to come on and ask if anyone’s been for a new number….sucks that’s it’s only for port ins…..

    • +3

Easy - go and get a $2 Vodafone SIM with a new number and then go and port that!

      • Can you then attach the number you want to keep to the new service or are you stuck with a new number?

        • +1

That would then be a regular port in and you keep your normal regular number.

Only no good for people who have a contract and need to pay termination fee/outstanding contract balance.

  • You can't get the 500 gift card with the plan to combine with this deal anymore hey?

  • +2

Does this deal available to utilize the eSIM in this Pixel 4? So it could be a useful dual sim phone?

  • -1

    i want 4 xl

  • +1

I got an email from JB. Its says offer ends 6th November.

Even though website says 30th October.

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/mobile-madness

  • -1

I just went in to do the deal and its only a $400 dollar gift card. Don't get played, folks

    • Looks like some of the deals have changed but the Pixel is still advertised at $200 up front. Were you buying a different phone when you were offered the $400 card?
