  • Man shame optus has me by the balls with Optus Sports

    This is amazing.

  • What’s the best way to port out from Telstra tonight?

    • If you don't have Kogan Sims handy, Woolworths half-price starter packs may bee good $5

    • Probably too late now (I think it's like 7am-8pm weekdays?). Also these usually have a clause that you need to be ported out for 30 days or something before getting this offer. Enforcement seems to vary by store / person.

  • +1

Ask the usual when these offers come up, both of these options are no longer available?

$10 port in credit p/m (depends on who you talk to at Telstra?)
    Migrate to $45 p/m plan after signup ( " " )

Anyone had any recent success, eg past week?

    • I am pretty certain both of these have ended officially for some time now. The Telstra reps seem to be aware of the JB plans and you can't switch to the month-to-month without incurring early termination charges. I think the $10 port in credit is very difficult to get, people keep asking but good luck to you if you manage to get it..

    • +1

I have been able to get the port in credit and also switch to the $60 month to month without any fees in the past week.

      • I tried few times. The first agent said yes and we went through the T&C but turns out the plan didnt get changed and I didnt save the transcript. Then the 2 & 3 agents said no to change of plans and port in credit due to JB plan

        • I recently tried asking for the port in credit and the Telstra rep created a reference number. However, they said I had to go back to JB and ask them to apply it to my account. Previous posts suggests that Telstra apply the credit from their end and not the staff members at JB. Contemplating whether I can be bothered going back to JB, as I'm worried I will be given the run around.

          • +1

@holeshot: I got a run around as well. Got told by live chat that in store will do it and they have created reference number. Went into JB to change from $65 plan to $45 and to have discount applied. The sales assistant called up Telstra and asked for the credit to be applied, Telstra said no, I talked to them on the phone as well and they still said no and told me to speak to live chat again. I went through with the plan change and later spoke to live chat again. I think I was very lucky and he said he would apply 6 month $10 discount.

TL;DR: Live chat ended up applying discount for 6 months.

            • @Hargain Bunter: Thx for sharing ur experiences! I will contact live chat again rather than bother JB.

              • @holeshot: Having said that, I just heard from another bargainer that live chat had told him he needed to ask for JB to put a note on his account that he was eligible for the port in discount. Once JB put a note, live chat was then able to apply the discount.

So it all sound very random and sometime you get lucky. Good luck!

If Telstra didn't suck so bad where I work (Canberra CBD, go figure) I would hit this up again. Had to cancel early due to the bad service last time, no ETC and got to keep the gift card.. but lesson learned, if you're in Canberra CBD, it has garbage network coverage.

That said, you could sign up as a new number (no port in), get the $500 GC, cancel the service for $390 ETC, and have $110 profit of JB gift cards.. If you can be bothered.

  • If I want to port out for a future port-in deal (maybe 2 or 3 months) who should I go with? I use about 30gb a month.

    • Cheap Starter packs - Kogan, Catch etc.

  • +2

Bugger! Switched over the weekend and got the $400 gift card. Porting was surprisingly painless from Optus - took less than 10 minutes. The sales guy was surprised.

  • Similar to Good Guys deal but the $500 on any phone!

  • Does anyone know if these promos apply to existing customers if porting in a new number? I ported my daughters in for the $500 gift card a few months back, would I be eligible again if porting in my son's number with it being a different number but me already being a Telstra customer?

    • +1

If their numbers are with other carriers it'll work. I have bought my wife and my mums number under my name for ease of billing and it allows me to speak on behalf…

      • +1

Cheers, yeah different networks but all the kids phones are under my name. Just wanted to clarify whether it was for new customers or not.

  • Has anyone had the $150 offered for the pixel 4 pre order deducted from their pre order? Wouldn't mind $650 off a Pixel 4.

    • Lol. It does not work that way. You get the $150 voucher after you pay for the P4

    • No buddy, they wont do that i asked them that too on Sunday at Chadstone store myself.

  • What gift cards do JB sell, because their gift card T&Cs don't seem to restrict buying gift cards with their gift cards.

    • Gaming subscriptions etc, no gift cards as such.

  • Does anyone know how long until the gift card expires?

    • +4

      No expiry on Jbhifi GCs.

    • Jb HiFi gift cards have no expiry.

  • Signup this plan and get $500 gift card
    Put this towards Pixel 4 $1049 - $500 = $549 (upfront)
Get extra $150 on the pixel 4 release day Put $150 back to next telstra bills.
Probably try to ask for new customer credit or port in discounts via chat.

    • +1

Whats so great about doing this? All you are doing is paying $500 of the P4 month to month right? Is there any benefit other than reducing the upfront cost?

      • um, yeah, reducing the upfront cost is what we usually call a deal

(also, what do you mean paying $500 month to month? this offer is a straight $500 off the cost of the phone that you don't pay)

    • You can't put the Pixel coupon towards Telstra bills

    • Put $150 back to next telstra bills.

      How?

      • Sell the thing.

        • +2

$150 Jbhifi gift card is worth $135 in classifieds

        • +1

You wont get $150 back. Usually at least 10% less.

    • The end result is $400 for a phone and $65 monthly bill for 12 months.

      • But the Pixle 4 has been universally slammed.

        • By who, the review that have been released today are actually pretty good?

  • +1

Can I set up a new service and then later port in my number??

    • I'm wondering this too. Or do you have to port number over in store as part of activation process. I've still got 2 months left on Kogan so probably need to just wait for future deal.

  • Can we opt for esim instead of the traditional one via this plan?

    • +1

Probably, but you might have to go into a Telstra store to switch from a normal sim to an esim

  • Does porting from belong count?

    • No. You’ll have to port out to a different provider and then port in for this deal.

  • Are the GCs transferable?

Just a normal GC that can be given or sold on?

    • Can sell but usually at a discount of 10%.

  • +1

Sell that GC for $470, and you've got a good deal

  • Does anyone by chance know if I can use this telstra sim in a 4G modem specifically for sharing data, and not as a phone? Would they know? Would they care?

    Thanks!

    • Yes. Why not? I have a telstra sim on my laptop just for data.

      • Yes but is that a dedicated data sim? Might be different to this regular phone sim

        • +1

Not sure what you mean but I frequently put my sim in a wifi modem (one of those soap bar shaped ones) and use it just for data for the entire family when we travel. Works fine.

Not a dedicated data sim. When i put it in my phone, i can still make calls. I just use it mostly for data.

          • @Bluberry: Thanks, I am just asking as I had read a comment in the past about providers detecting the type of data use and blocking them from being used in modems exclusively. Just wondered if anyone had direct experience. Cheers!

  • -4

The deal is a rip off. I have 200gb for $65 a month with optus.

    • +2

      With a $500 gift card?

      • and be stuck on a 12 month contract which will incur penalties if u cancel early. So while your stuck on a plan, prices elsewhere will drop because of competition then all of a sudden ur 60gb at $65 looks like a really shitty deal.

Why else would they want to lock you in for 12 months?

        • Where there is competition again mobile providers and the consumers win due to falling prices or increased dgigabyte allowance, the companies that say I can join them at no fee and penalise me for leaving can go and get screwed.

  • Can you take out phone insurance through JB Hifi or Telstra directly if you buy a phone at the same time as taking out this contract?

    • Don't. It's covered.

      • How?

        • If you are under contract the phone is in warranty regardless what they say, and even then consumer rights has a fit for purpose, extended warranties are a scam, they MAY make it easier, but you are covered regardless.

          • @scuderiarmani: I think this was for loss, accidental damage etc rather than extended warranty purposes, but good points.

            • @TheZohan: That could be managed with home and contents insurance too…. the bit extra there to reduce excess would be far more valuable then on one specific device.

      • How is it covered?
Can you take out telstras ‘stay connected’ insurance?

        • Thanks for your comments above.

It was regarding coverage for accidental damage /loss

  • Do you guys think this will happen again before the year ends?

    • +1

This is the third time this deal has come up in the last 3 months. Note the 'normal' price is the same with a $400 GC. I would say it is extremely likely that rhis deal will come up severl times before the end of the year.

  • I ported out to the circle.life deal today. Anyone reckon I should bother going into JB and trying to get the deal?

2- Do we think JB will offer a better deal in November/December or is this as good as they get? Has the $45 plan ever come with a $500GC?

    • If you were on Telstra yesterday, you have to wait 1 month

  • +2

For those after new Pixel 4.. Last couple of years JB has had a great discount promo and taken off ~$400 (if memory serves me correctly) off retail so its just around 1K. This usually happens around December/boxing day.

So if you can hold out it would be worth your while stacking:
    $500 GC Telstra plan
~$400 discount off phone in December (maybe)
5% GC discount purchase for remaining funds

Assuming this all pans out you would be able to grab a Pixel 4 XL for $503 give or take.
This would be a far better deal than $500gc +$150gc +5%gc

  • My optus plan is just expired. Might have to consider this I reckon

  • Can I port in from Aldi $25 plan?

  • I've got another pre paid Telstra service that just expired, haven't recharged it yet. Would I be able to port that in, get the $500gc toward a Note 10+? Or do I need to recharge it beforehand?

  • I'm with Telstra currently. To take advantage of this deal and keep my number I assume I will need to port out to port back in (through a Woolies Sim or otherwise).

Is this there any chance this can happen in the next 24 hours? I'd be keen to take advantage but only if I'm reasonably sure that it's possible.

    • Sign up to a new number at jb hifi. Go to telstra store and ask to switch the numbers allocated to each plan. Then cancel your existing plan.

      • Does this work?

        • Keen to hear if this works

        • If this works its a total game changer

        • This worked for me today. Bought an Aldi sim, ported to this deal, then swapped my out-of-contract plan over with this one. Result being I keep my out if contract number on the new plan, and cancel the ported Aldi on my old plan.

  • +2

With JB Telstra plan, do you get an access to Telstra 24/7 app? I have an existing Telstra account, can that be combined with JB Plans?

    • +1

The answer is yes, as you are an existing customer with Telstra the process is even quicker.

  • Are they still doing the $10 port in credit or has that stopped?

  • Are there better/worse telcos to port out to before porting back in?

  • can i downgrade my plan after a month or something?

    • After you get the gift card, you can downgrade straight away on Telstra live chat (ask for port in credit as well, be polite haha).

      • +1

I tried downgrade my $65 plan but live chat said I can't as it's a JB Hifi plan I need to go to talk to JB if I want to downgrade otherwise they will charge the ETC.

        • You should try again and did you ask for port in credit?
