  • Just ported to Kogan from Telstra last night.

Will the computer know I've recently ported out?

    • As mentioned many times, it's luck of the draw with the sales person.

  • Does anyone know if I can port in as a personal customer and then transfer my PLAN to my business, keeping the contract (ie. No ETC)?

  • Does it come with international calls?

    • +1

      I believe no.

  • +1

Worth noting, I got this deal tacked onto a new phone which I paid outright, and used the $500 gift voucher towards it. However, if I want to get a new phone at any point I need to pay back the remaining value of the gift card to cover the full value of the phone before i can do so, otherwise telstra charge a contract cancellation fee (even though i bought the phone outright from JB, and the plan i select to upgrade to is the same, just with a new device charged to it as well). I don't think this should be allowed. Seems like a money grab attempt by Telstra

    • Am I understanding this deal correctly? If I bought an iPhone for $1999, the total cost over 12 months would be $2279 (1999-500+780)? After 12 months I would then be able to change to prepaid without any fees right?

  • I signed up for this plan on Thursday last week, any chance of getting the extra $100 giftcard? Also had no issues getting the $10 port in credit via live chat.

    • $10 per month or just a one off?

    • can you please explain this process? aka can I ask what you asked?

      • $10 per month, I just went onto live chat and said the person who served me at JB said to contact regarding the $10 port in credit, I said they said to use my account number as a reference, they then created a new request and reference number.

        • sweet ~ $10 off ~ thanks for the heads up!

          $55 p/m

          $500 GC

  • Real question will google bundle free products e.g google pixel bud, google home mini with the phone to get more people to buy it?? if that happens for sure im buying it

    • Well they are giving $150 credit at JB, Harvey Norman and Google…. so you can use it for that…

      • yeah true haha my bad h

  • Can someone please confirm if they have obtained this deal? I just called my local JB HI-FI store and was informed that it comes with a $400 gift card, not $500.

    • Hmm, website did actually says only $400 port in gift card only. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/jb-mobile

Any ideas OP or someone can confirm otherwise?

      • Just ported then. It's definitely $500

        • Just ported today, $500 gift card at jb hifi world square

          • +1

@WhatILike: Yup, got mine today as well. Cheers all (and to the newly registered JB rep user in here)

  • Still not sure if this deal is Valid!!!!

    • valid ~ did mine @ 9:28 - Brisbane

  • North Lakes (QLD) also telling me they know nothing about the $500 GC promo and that it's $400.

    • Got mine done in Albert St, Brisbane

Only issue was the Telstra T&C was for "Instore credit - spent today only"

He had a chat with a manager and got it turned into GC - (to be collected when order is completed)

      • They wouldn’t budge for me, said they’d been told it’s in-store credit only. Not bothered really as there’s stuff my wife wants anyway.

After eventually figuring out it was actually a promo.

  • I wonder what's the source of this Deal!!! OP please kindly shed some light!

  • The Good Guys $500GC deal is live already. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/491065
Surprised if JB (who own GG) are not up to speed on the deal.

  • I can confirm that this deal is Valid and. I am currently at Strand Arcade switching from Optus to Telstra.

  • Can anyone confirm the run dates for it, local store knew nothing of it (JB Brunswick) when i called up. Planning on trying tomorrow when im in the CBD and hence 3 JB stores local.

  • +1

It's not a $500 Gift Card. I was rejected in the store (Sydney NSW)

$500 needs to be spent in store there and then. This deal has been raised with JBhifi head office apparently and the message has gone out to all stores to stop giving out gift cards.

Who ever got theirs already, you're lucky!

    • thats what I got told :)

      manager changed it to GC

    • Yep, just had the exact same thing happen after initially being told they didn’t know about it. The woman showed me the memo which explicitly said the $500 had to be used as in-store credit at the time.

She said she’d happily hold the credit for a few days for me as I wasn’t able to spend it straight away anyway, so I went ahead as the wife wants to buy something at JB.

      • Think the deal needs to be updated ~

I made the guy explicitly put on my order "w/ $500 Gift Card"

        • My store is not allowing it as they have strict orders from HQ

          • @kewy: party is over, I guess

    • Can confirm. I called the store and apparently the $500 credit needs to be used immediately in store. It’s not a Gift Card.

      • They are Gift Cards, I just got them. They did not force me into buy anything.

        • You and others may have received gift cards but that’s not what the deal states. The woman serving me showed me the memo and it clearly said “$500 in-store credit only” so those scoring gift cards are lucky.

      • Work around:

        https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/sennheiser-momentum-true-…

        Buy - Return to GC

Smallest to carry $500 thing i could find

    • Sydney CBD, Galleries.

Guy literally just gave me his name on a card and said we will refund your Credit Card once the Telstra Port has gone through.

      No documents or anything.

I have to take his word for it.

  • What's the cost of the early termination fee (ETC)?
I can't really seem to find anything useful on their site

    https://www.telstra.com.au/help/critical-information-summari…

    • 12 month - $390

      • Is the ETC prorated, or flat these days?

        • This is assuming its cancelled right away

its marked as the "Maximum Early Termination Fee".

  • Just signed up at North Sydney JB got $500 gift card not store credit.

    • did you have to wait for order completion to pick up GC?

      • Yes, have to wait until the porting complete. They took down my name and number and will call me to pick up gift card.

        • Took only about 15 minutes and porting has completed. Ported from Catch to Telstra got my gift card now.

  • +3

I called the Mt Druitt store and they said $500 credit is only available to spend in-store straight away.

    • Thank you, was about to come in lol

  • -1

Absolutely filthy. Went in on the weekend and sepecifically asked JB person helping me if there were any deals like this coming up in the next week, supposedly he checked and said no. So got the $400 GC, now 3 days later and it's bumped up to $500 - seriously!

    • +1

Its a flash sale. They wouldnt have known until yesterday lol

  • All SA stores saying need to spend on the same day.

    • Which is correct, everyone else getting gift cards has been luck!

  • Can we buy something and then return it for a gift card? — frowned upon? or disallowed?

    • Provided the item is unopened I can’t see why not, unless they see you paid with this promo and make you spend the money immediately….again.

  • Has anyone managed to get a $10 international calling pack added (paid or bonus) with these plans recently?

    • I just spoke to jbhifi Broadway who told me that nah. Can't add the $10 pack.
Also was trying to push the $500 phone credit and said there was no $500 gift card….

  • -1

I can't see much value in this deal unless you use large amounts of mobile data, were already on a expensive phone plan or need Telstra.
I pay $20 for my phone plan per month, and hardly get anywhere near my 5Gb data allowance since I am connected to Wifi for much of the day.

The $500 GC in the real world is worth closer to $450-$475 if you are selling it. I would need to fork out an extra $45 per month for essentially the extra data which I won't use based on my current usage. That is an extra $540 a year to be on this Telstra plan and it is not covered by the value of the giftcard, hence there isn't much value for my circumstances.

    • I use at least 20-25gb a month. Includes browsing (news, fb, instagram etc) , streaming and music.

    • there are plenty of people who use that much data or need to be on telstra

  • Has anyone tried Chatswood, NSW?

      • How long ago?
I’m here at Westfield JB now, haven’t spoken to anyone yet, but there are lots of print outs about $400 gift card…

        • It doesn't appear there is any signage for this one but they definitely know about it. The question is whether you can manage to get gift cards in place of the store credit.

  • Can you go over the 60gb and just have it slow down, or will it charge like crazy / straight cut off?

If I can go over, (profanity) it, I'll cancel my home internet for this and save close to a grand over a year.

    • They’ll charge you $10 for 1GB blocks if you go over and continue to go over the 1GB add-ons.

      • Oh (profanity) that, nah, I'll end up losing my savings over night when a game decides it wants to auto update in sleep mode.

        Cheers!

        • do you plan on sticking the sim card inside your router?

          • @nomster: I like watching certain videos late at night ~ on 4K

Talked to Civic, ACT store re promotion - it is a store credit that must be spent on the same day.

Then called Belconnen, ACT store - store credit and must be spent on the same day/transaction.

    Boo :(

  • My local JB is holding my credit tip number ports. Didn't have to spend when signing up. Although have to spend it all when I go back in. No saving credit for another time.

  • +1

The same offer appears to be on at Good Guys and it the terms and conditions indicate it’s an actual gift card:
    https://thegoodguys.sirv.com/Content/2020FY/Brands/Telstra/w…

  • I was told in the city store that I have to spend that 500 gift card on the spot I sign up, is anyone told that too or this is just some Bs they made up?

    • Plenty of users here have said

    • +1

Yep, which is actually what this promo is meant to be. Those getting actual GC’s are getting lucky.

  • Got $500 gift card @ Parramatta NSW

    • $500 GC at Camberwell, VIC too

    • $500 gift card in Bourke St Melbourne as well. Great staff - no fuss port in 5 minutes!

  • Can confirm I just got the $500 GC from JB at cockburn WA
Have a receipt for it as well. They were v coy abt the gift card amount tbh.

Some one needs to update the deal. It's store credit which needs to be used immediately, not a gift card.

  • It has been changed to a giftcard. Did mine at North Sydney which was super quick and was informed it was changed to a giftcard this afternoon

    • +1

Haha…this deal is all over the place. Some actual clarification or confirmation on the gift card part would be great.

      • I work in telco for jb and can confirm it has been updated to gift card as of about 4:30 this afternoon…

        • Where can I direct JB staff if they refuse to believe me?

          • @TomGum: They shouldnt refuse. it was made aware to every store

        • Great, thanks. As above, Is there something we can say to any employees who still refuse?

        • Hmm, member since 44mins ago… I find it hard to believe..

          • @cloudie9: I’ll find out tomorrow when I go back in…

            • @ElectrkJonesy777: Please let us know how you go…

              • @cloudie9: Any update on this? fact or fiction?

                • @TomGum: I got one successfully. No issues. They even printed out the internal memo about the offer from their HQ perhaps?

                  • +1

@cloudie9: Sorry gents, only just getting a chance to head in now. Do you recall what the memo said cloudie?

Update; All good. Went in and it has been changed from store credit to a gift card!

  • Just ported my wife's number perfectly with a $500 gift card at Cockburn Central in WA. Guy's name was David and knew all about the deal and was happy to get it done. Very pleased!

  • Why wouldn’t anyone use the gift card $500 off to offset the phone cost at the point of sale and get a gift card to use it later.
    Am I missing something?
If I get iPhone pro 256 $1999 - $500 straight off the bat.
    Please explain :)

    • Why wouldn’t anyone use the gift card $500 off to offset the phone cost at the point of sale and get a gift card to use it later.

      You don't get two.

JB has a long-running deal of $500 off a handset (usually an iPhone), at point of sale.

This is $500 gift card to be used anytime. It's a BYO plan, so many of us are happy with our phones, or don't need to upgrade today. The gift card can be used say, next year, if you'd rather get the iPhone 12, a PS5, etc.

      • Oh ok, understood.
Yeah nah I mistyped I meant exactly what you said but I now know the the examples of other people’s circumstances.

        Cheers guys

Does anyone have the actual link or screenshot to this offer
Is it $65 for $60gb the contract paperwork just shows 40gb

They’ve told me it’s 40 + 20 bonus but it doesn’t specify on the paperwork is it first month only. Reason I ask for screenshot or similar is I have been shafted by Telstra before.
        TIA

  • Currently on a telstra plan out of contract can I get this deal as a new number then transfer my existing number to this plan??
