binscab, can you send me the link to do that?
Have a look through this forum

I found this same deal (a little better, actually) back in Feb/March.
Included several map updates too.
I can't say enough positive things about it.
Top quality device, excellent for newbs.
Even at $50-100 more, it murders the competition.I don't know much about standalone GPS units, do you get free map updates from tomtom or do you have to pay for the new map every year? And is this a good price? :)
I think you get free map updates for an introductory period.. I think they were asking $70 via TomTom Home for me to update last time I looked though..
One of the biggest things that annoys me about TomTom (and someone may know how to fix this on here) is that it asks for the Suburb, not Street name first.. so if the street is on the border between two suburbs and you don't know the area well - you can have trouble entering in the address.
Cheers,
binscab.
Late response, but I'll answer anyway.
Tomtom at the moment aren't offering any free updates for the maps, but they do have a feature where you get minor updates (speed errors, etc) for what's supposed to be indefinitely.
You can purchase map updates, but I wouldn't bother. Streets don't change that much in a year. In 5 years maybe it would be worth it, but then just buy a new model, seeing as map updates aren't cheap compared to the price of a new unit. I've got a 1998 street directory in the pocket of my car door for when I want to quickly reference something, or I take a wrong turn, etc. 95% of the time, the streets are still correct lol.
I have one of the TomTom One XLs from 2007.. Managed to install the latest firmware/features like ALG with help of one of the guides on the net.
