I want to get this for a friend but last time it took 5+ months for them to investigate the cashback and the only reason I got it back was because one of the guys on ozb happened to work there.

    • +2

Might be worth noting the 30 day money back guarantee that Nord offers, if your friend had any issues with tracking then they'd be able to cancel in time :)

I've always had a good experience with CR support so if they did get tracking I'm sure support could help them out.

    • +2

I have had a good experience with their cashback guarantee.

If you use an ad blocker you need to make sure it is disabled, or use a different browser.

      • +5

I'm well aware. I use a browser with 0 extensions (other than CR one) just for cash reward purchases.

The support via CR support email was just so useless. They asked for the receipt/invoice 3 times.
Then they were adamant that Nords payment team hadn't got back to them, but I spoke to the manager of the team at nord and he said they had replied to them weeks ago.

Took over 5 months of back and forth till I finally went on here to see if it was a recurring issue and then I realized some on site users work for CR, one of them helped and got it approved within 24 hours.

        • +2

I'm guessing it was TA, they're very helpful.

I had a similar experience. TA offered to help. I figured that it was just better using SB app as its fairly reliable, better rates.

Cash Rewards didn’t approve my cashback for 6 months and they only ended up approving it out of “goodwill” when I threatened to escalate things further because they said the merchant hadn’t approved it yet despite telling me max 4-5 months and I was thinking what if the merchant never approved it?

  • Can I mock Australia IP address with this? (I.e: pretend to be connecting from within Aus while I am traveling in Bali)

    • +2

It's a VPN service with thousands of IP's around the world.
      So yes, you can.

    • I got another VPN, but I think there are plenty of Australian servers, so should be a YES

    • +1

Yeah, the AU nord servers are fine except if you want to watch iview or abc news 24. Seem to run those particular sites pretty poorly.

    • +2

It does not work for Australian tv. So iView, AFL, Australian Netflix do not work

      • I've never tried connecting to Australian Netflix using Nord (because, why would you?), but I was able to use iView in Germany on it.
You just need to cycle through the servers, Nord is one of the few VPN services that try to keep VoD services working on their servers.

    • Are there any VPNs that people recommend that can do this? Watch Australian TV while overseas?

      • @misterchan

You can set up a VPN at home. That way you can route all the data via your home address so it appears you're at home.

If you have a good modem, you may just need to enable it and create an account.

      • I think most VPNS will allow you to watch aussie tv. I keep purevpn as a backup and it works well in short bursts (ie a couple hours). But nord is more stable for leaving it on for 24h+. I'd just get one of those lifetime plans from stacksocial

I think only nord does the werid US routing thingo.

  • I want to get this for US Netflix. Could someone who is using this for US Netflix kindly comment on how the speeds are if it works well. Thank you kindly

    • +2

I have NordVPN and US Netflix works. Its a hit and miss with the speeds depending on which server you connect to. Overall it works but just the beginning start of video buffering takes awhile.

      • +1

Does it work with smart TVs through DNS or only phone/tablet?

      • Thanks @kei

        • Nord do not support Android TV and Netflix any more - You can still download/sideload an older version of Netflix (and it'll still work) but if Vodafone TV force update like the NVIDIA shield does you will lose access

  • How long would you expect it to take to show up on cashrewards?

    • 24hours maximum in my case

      • But then about 2 months after that for it to be transferable.

        • Got it last time it was 89% cash back.

It was in my account fairly quickly, but estimated to be 31 Dec 19 before able to be transferred out.

  • +2

Bit the bullet, got charged $186.11 on ING. Now let's see if the cashback gets tracked!

    • +2

      Cashback of $161.85, estimated 16 January 2020.
So that makes it a 87% cashback rate.
      Total cost $24.26 AUD

I wonder who is screwing up the forex rates - Cashrewards or ING?
Maybe could have gotten more if I went with the Shopback deal?

      • +1

Cashback is based on the converted AUD amount as determined by the vendor (not the paid AUD amount as determined by your bank). Cashrewards has no control over the process. See the Rep's comment for previous deals (inc NordVPN and Surfshark)
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/485618#comment-7772682

It's the same process for ShopBack:
        https://www.shopback.com.au/nordvpn

Due to currency fluctuations, discrepancies may apply to the cashback amount you receive. Please note that the purchase amount ShopBack receives is not what your bank charges you, but what NordVPN reports back to us in AUD.

      • Not much difference with SB

Pending cashback $159.72 from Shopback + $2 Bonus Browser extension Promo.

        Total Cost $24.68 AUD.

    • Mine was $185.20 with bankwest :)
Got the same amount for the cash back email as well

  • +2

The last deal on shark was 10usd for 3 years? Is it worth to get this for an extra 3 USD?

    • +12

Lol @ the big song and dance over $3.

      True ozbargainer!

      • Is more like if Nord is better. XD

        • I had the surfshark one but I think this one has much more server options

        • I got the surfshark one and it's useless anywhere except in Perth (where I live). Under a few megabits on overseas servers and I'm on 100/40 nbn

  • Can you watch prime when you are connected to their au servers?

  • -1

    I'm waiting for 100% cashback

    • I’m waiting for 110%. They pay me then.

      • 150% here - Then sell it on Gumtree for a profit - The sky's the limit! :D

      • Smart

  • How's this with US netflix?

    • +5

      Good, works well.
Don't connect to a USA server, connect to the Australian server and you'll get US Netflix at excellent speeds

      • How could this be possible to get US netflix while you are connected to Australian server?

      • If connected to Aus server dont you have to use Au Netflix?

      • +1

        Lolwat?

      • Could you please elaborate? It doesn't make sense to most of us here.

        • +2

NordVPN selectively reroutes Netflix traffic to US Netflix on most of their servers. (With a few exceptions, ie Canada, Japan and the UK)

      • thanks mate

      • What?! I didn't know this

  • If I had a month sub before and didn't renew, can I still be a "new customer"?

  • +4

Do they have server in China?

    • If you have Google where you are, you can find out.

    • for china local users watch youtube,NordVPN is good.
for AU user wants to watch youku,no.try pureVPN.

      • +2

Travelling in China mainland ATM. I can confirm that Nord does NOT work in China. Neither does express. I found Vypr is the only one that works and it’s really slow.

        • ExpressVPN seems to work for me in Shanghai?

        • +1

indeed. just talk to the nord support team, the windows app is not working in mainland china atm, you need to manualy configure it in openvpn with some particular server. I have successful connected to jpn server after configuration. the tutorial link is https://support.sec-cn.site/Restricted-countries/1391702632/…

        • What about Surfshark does that work from China?

  • OP please put pricing in title

  • +3

    "New customers only."

I just make an account and add/remove a dot in my email address because Gmail hehe

My experience using Netflix via NordVPN … ymmv

NordVPN App on Windows 10: https://nordvpn.com/tutorials/windows-10/application/
    1. When connected to a US server, Netflix US works using:
    * Netflix App on Windows 10
    * Netflix via Firefox
    2. When connected to an AU server, Netflix US works using both App & Firefox (that's right, Netflix US not AU)
    3. To access local Netflix AU on Windows 10, you must disconnect from NordVPN

Router with OpenVPN (Asus Router with Merlin firmware): https://nordvpn.com/tutorials/asustwrt-merlin/openvpn/
    1. When connected to a US server, Netflix US works using:
    * Netflix App on Windows 10
    * Netflix via Firefox
    2. When connected to a US server, Netflix US does NOT work using:
    * Sony Android TV

NordVPN App on Android TV: https://support.nordvpn.com/Connectivity/Android/1345952622/…
    1. When connected to a US server, Netflix US does NOT work
    2. When connected to an AU server, Netflix AU does NOT work
    3. When connected to an GB server, Netflix GB/UK does NOT work
    4. To access local Netflix AU on Android TV, you must disconnect from NordVPN

    • From experience you can't bypass geoblock restriction for most streaming service using openvpn on yoyr router, need a dedicated vpn app on that device

      • I used to be able to watch US Netflix on Sony TV (7.0 Nougat) using ExpressVPN via Router OpenVPN setup as recently as a month ago.
I don't know if it's still the case as I no longer have access to ExpressVPN.

    • How about android VPN app? Can you stream US netflix using android vpn app on android TV box?

      • You can watch US Netflix using the NordVPN Android App on a mobile.
I haven't tried Android App on an Android TV (only the NordVPN on Android-TV App)

    • Hi, thanks for the info.

Could you please confirm that there is no way to make it work on Android TV so we can watch US contents?

I mostly watch Netflix using my Shield TV.

      • The only way I've managed to watch US Netflix on Android TV so far is via the following combination:
        - Connect to US server via NordVPN App on Windows 10
        - Login to Netflix via Google Chrome browser
        - CAST the browser tab to Sony Android TV (with built-in Chromecast)

      • +1

I can confirm that this does NOT work with Netflix US on Android TV via the android tv app.

I just signed up, downloaded the app on my android TV, connected to US server and tried to watch Black panther. Unfortunately no luck. Geoblock warning comes up. Hope that helps.

On th other hand it does work on my android mobile phone via the android mobile app.

    • I have the same experience with my LG webOS TV. I'm not able to bypass geo content restrictions. There's no VPN client

I want to know if PS4 works or not

  • +3

    Thanks, OP.

There's also 89% back from ShopBack for those who prefer to use that service.

Shopback sucks, haven't got my cashback tracked yet, gonna ask for a refund

    • +1

Thanks surethang, Purchased through ShopBack and got transaction confirmation within the hour for $159.82 cashback.

      • Purchased through Shopback yesterday. Got confirmation for pending cashback $159.72 + expecting $2 bonus from Shopback Chrome extension Promo .

  • Is this cheaper than the shopback offer, which was like 20 aud per month?

    • yes

      • Ah didnt see the last line cheers

  • Would this work for bypassing restrictions in China?

    • -3

      thats what a vpn does

      • +1

Quite a few VPNs didn’t work in China when I went last time. Hence my question if anyone has used this particular one and had it work.

        • it depends the time, china updates the list every now and then. Windscribe worked for me a while back (the paid one)

    • +1

No, in China atm and nord just hangs. Great Fire Wall wins.
Express doesn’t work either. Found that Vypr works but it’s pretty slow and drops out heaps. I know both nord and express claim they work in China but it doesn’t.

      • Oh that’s interesting. I had express and it worked fine earlier this year. Windscribe however did not work. Maybe they’ve blocked express since then.

      • Edit: after speaking with express support (which I needed to get another VPN service to do) I have found a japan server that does work. Most servers don’t connect and no Australian servers do … which I need atm to watch kayo.

      • Nord should work in China.
I was there a while ago, but it wasn't a case of just clicking a country from the VPN list, it required some setup and going off the Obfuscated list.

  • +1

Figured i'd give it a whirl and if it doesn't work for what I want it for, I can cancel with the 30-day money back guarantee. Thanks OP!

EDIT: About an hour and a half later, received an email with my estimated cashback. Estimated approval: Up to 95 days.

  • +1

Is anyone using nord going from expressvpn? I’ve found that in Sydney nord is noticeably slower than express while browsing. Running speed tests also confirms this.

Was wondering if this is just me or not.

  • i am a bit new to VPN, assuming if i sign up one, can i share my VPN to my family overseas, while i am also using it in Australia? or maybe when i am offline in AU?

  • Will this work on a Sony android tv ? I would like to watch hotstar(their streaming works in India only) on tv in Australia.

    • +1

I was able to play on the TV via shield through puffin browser

      • When I am trying to subscribe to hot star, it is saying foreign cards not allowed, any other way to subscribe?

        • +1

I haven’t subscribed yet but I read that they accept only India issued debit / credit cards - maybe you need someone back home to give you their details

          • @Maxdax: Or else use Thop Tv or Hotstar Kodi Addon

            • @Abure Bauer: No luck with Thop Tv - however Hotstar and Voot Apk - working pretty well on Shield! I haven’t found the need to subscribe yet to Hotstar and Voot is free!

  • +2

Cashrewards keeps redirecting me to tkqlhce. com when I try to click through to merchant…then website times out. I've used chrome and edge browsers and disabled any blockers in use, is anyone else getting this error?

    • getting the same error on chrome as well

      • I ended up using my mobile to signup, might be a solution for you..
