Links are in his video description?
Else Bowden's, Auto Glym, etc are always good. The Bowdens's products smell nice too :D

      • Nanolicious smells so good I want to drink it.

      • Cheers, I actually watched it on Apple TV, Ill head to youtube now. Cheers!

      Bowden's Own

    • Another vote for autoglym and Bowden's own. Bowden's own costs a little more on average but tends to be sold in higher concentrates, I have both in my garage ;)

      • +1 Auto Glym or Bowdens

    • This: https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/bowdens-own-a-little-int…
A pressure washer (e.g. Bunnings Titan 125.5, ozbargain favourite)
      A snow cannon

I do detail cars as a hobby. And do read a lot about these stuff on online forums (I'm by no means a professional). If you want to get great results you got to be using a DA polisher. Also you won't be able to find the products professionals using mainly on SCA. SCA sells the consumer grade products (that's not to say professionals dont use them). If you want prosumer/professional level stuff you should be looking at online car detailing sites (e.g., waxit). SCA doesn't even sell sandpapers finer than 2000 grit.

These are the products that I'm using:

      Meaguirs NXT generation car wash
      Clay bars bought off ebay
Meaguirs Ultimate Compound (I use elbow grease)
Finish Kare 1000p hi-temp wax (you have ceramic coatings these days which you can DIY so don't realy need wax after polishing).

Remember each car and paint is different so you need to be wary of esp when polishing.

      Happy detailing!

      • Can you please recommend a ceramic coat product?

        • I have heard good reviews about Gtechnique Crystal Serum Light (CSL) (a prosumer grade ceramic coating) and on top of that some do apply EXO V4. They both can be DIYed. If you going to apply them make sure you really do clean the paint (decon -> clay bar -> polish) before applying.

          • @kiLbiL: What's decon?
Yes, I plan to follow this : https://youtu.be/NRTGNF3UJ0M

            • +1

@lordra: It says "Video unavailable". Decon is the decontamination. The reason is the car shampoo that we are using does not remove the oils that you have in wax so the decon process (you wash the car with something stronger - you can use dishwashing soap) will remove them, leaving you with a clean surface to begin with.

              • @kiLbiL: https://youtu.be/NRTGnf3uJ0M

So strange that it didn't work!
Yes, cheers, this makes a lot of sense. Just need time, a place to work indoors and DA polisher. The one sca usually sells for $60 is $125 so waiting for a price drop!

    • Bowdens is great.

Once you're more familiar with cleaning products; the NEW range of turtle wax products are amazing!!!!

      The old stuff is garbage….

He actually lists every single item used in the video description. Agreed that he is awesome.

  • Can I do click & collect ? Can someone help me with these ? Oil change, coolant flush, brake fluid, disc rotor & pads change, transmission flush: what equipment do I needs to be able to do these things ? I never done it before, I watched some vid @ youtube that convince me they are doable. The worst could happens is I tow the car back to mechanic, right ?

*After the last shockingly 'service' bill, I want to do these things now.

    • The videos you watch would tell you what you need

    • +2

I'm in the process of purchasing all the goodies to do this. This is a handy video: https://youtu.be/oo1_X5ZzLYU

I recommend grabbing the service manual for your car, jack and stand (ratchet stands from SCA). I got a 2.5T Hydrolic Jack from eBay for $91, higher load than the one SCA sells for $120.

There will be other who can offer better hands on advice. It's exciting to learn these skills and i hope you enjoy it like I am :)

    • +8

You will need: Jack, jack stands, socket set, spanner set.

For the oil change: Oil and oil filter (SCA website will tell you what you need), oil catch pan.

Radiator flush: Pliers to disconnect radio hoses, radiator fluid (SCA website will tell you what you need). Do you need to do this? Its not required for a general service.

Brake fluid: Brake fluid, a thin rubber tube and a friend to assist in bleeding the brakes.

Discs and pads: discs and pads, don't need anything fancy DBA and Bendix will get the job done. Are your discs worn, warped or squeaking? If not probably safe to leave them.

ChrisFix would be my recommendation for tutorials to follow as the are very comprehensive.

What car do you have, when was the last service and what was done?

      • Thank you for those advices guys.
We have had a minor service done recently. Those things above are what need to be done according to the mechanic. Also others 3 very technical things too and he asked for $2500.

I watched a few vids of ChrisFix, they look really good and informative.

        • What were the technical things?

          • @20percentcorrect: Front upper shock mount replacement, all engine mount worn/causinng vibration noise (w/e that means ) ,LHF tye worn on outer edge and transmission flush. Oh wheel alignment too

      • +1 for Chrisfix, easily the best videos online if he has covered what you need to do, although sometimes it helps to have a vid for the exact car you have in case something is a bit odd.

Whatever you do don't drain the transmission by accident when looking to change the oil

If you aren't confident or can't get a mate who is to help I would leave the brakes to a pro. Go for your life with the other stuff but you really want your brakes to function 100%.

      • Also you may need a tool to press the calipers in, some cars don't just go in under pressure and need to be turned with a tool.

But don't be put off, it's not that hard really. I did this job back in the days before YouTube and managed ok

    • +1

*After the last shockingly 'service' bill, I want to do these things now.

+1. I was charged $400 for non-OEM front brake pads for Corolla by a Toyota dealer a few years ago. Never then did I go to any mechanic for that Corolla. These guys have buried their heads in the sand after slaughtering the hen that laid golden eggs! With Youtube you can DIY literally everything these days.

      • +1

Depends on your ability. I have seen people install brake pads backwards. Some people cant even be trusted to properly torque up a set of wheel nuts. I for one don't want to live in a world where every car on the road has had it's brakes serviced by the owner who watched a video on youtube.

        • Agreed.

Its all down to how observant a user is during the disassembly.

Worn parts are still obviously shaped a certain way.

The biggest tip is take time, compare everything, before you remove it.

          While you remove it.

          And after removing it.

        • +2

Let's face it's no one torques wheel nuts. What did you think people did 20 years ago? I know blokes that worked on cars all their life and never owned a torque wrench. Access to these tools for the home handyman are a recent phenomenon

          • @Jackson: Man you really think torque wrenches a new thing? Granted no one actually sets their wheel nuts to a specific torque, I was more referring to people failing to tighten them properly after a flat tyre and having the wheel come off.

            • @Buyingcrap: They aren't new but tools were expensive. My dad had a made in Australia set of Sidchromes and they cost him the better part of $1000 in 70's money. He bought his falcon back then for $2800. No one was paying extra for a sophisticated tool like that. If they needed a tool it was often borrowed, these days I can't remember the last time someone borrowed a tool, they'd sooner just go and buy one, as they are now cheap. $30 bucks at aldi now.

Failing to tighten wheel nuts, I can safely say that none of the aforementioned people would have been guilty of that, the rule was tighten it as much as you can, it's better than not loose enough.

    • What state/area you in?

There's some nice car guy groups around brisbane who will meet up and show ya how :)

      • Im in Vic …

    • Hi frewer, you could always start with just the oil change and coolant flush for now. Those are fairly straight forward jobs and helps you get comfortable with things.

For that you really only need a jack or a ramp depending on what you drive. You might not even need anything else you don't already have in your tool box. Oil change is one plug normally with a washer, you should be able to use your hands to remove the filter if it's a basic car (some fancy ones you just take straight out).

Worst thing that could happen could be worse than getting it towed back. You could end up with 5+L of old oil all over your floor, damaging an engine due to insufficient/excess oil, stuffing up your braking system and it failing causing a major accident (don't get me wrong most the time it'll be just fine but if you want to imagine worst case scenarios these are things that have all happened to people DIYing). Don't let it put you off they're all very unlikely scenarios if you know what you are doing but just be careful each car is different and sometimes you tube can make people too overconfident. Key message is just being careful and not overstepping your capabilities.

Once your comfortable with the basic stuff then tackle the brakes. Disc rotors and pads can sometimes be a pain if you have no idea what you're doing for the first time just going off youtube vids.

      • Cheers, I bought coolant, oil & filter, engine flush ( for the next change ) and brake fluid. I will start with these and gain my confidence. Im that guy has an eye for detail, but I will take a baby step this time.

  • is it eligible for cash rewards?

    • Their extension thingy says yes

      Yes,2.3% return.

Placed an order late yesterday, gave the Customer Care line and they will refund the difference.

    • Refund or store credit? Worked automatically for me on a car wax I bought a few months back. Product dropped in price about 2 weeks? later. Took me a while to work out how the extra few dollars got on my account, than I remembered someone on OzB posting an upgraded deal. Was pleasantly surprised at their efficiency.

      • +1

They said it would be refunded to my Paypal. Guy had to speak with his manager to see what they could do. So maybe it varies ?

Hows toolpro vacuum cleaners vs a karcher though

    • Bought one on clearance and gave it away to a mate. Big bulky cumbersome thing and the suction wasn't great.

    • I have the toolpro and it's been great.

  • +1

Luckily waited for this sale as I had front/rear brake pads in my cart. The saw it on further sale (buy 2 get 50% off). Used 2.3% CR and winning!

    • Hmm doesn't seem to stack on the bendix 2 for 1 promo though :(

  • Just ordered a new battery. perfect timing.

    • I'm after one. Any recommendations? Mazda 3 2012.

  • Awesome. Need new wipers, everyone was complaining how noisey they were the other night :P

    • -2

Neighbours have 'complained' about how noisy I am some nights, but I don't think they meant my windscreen!… maybe Im wrong.

      • pfft!

        • Im afraid to click onlink… so I won't.

  • I bought some Nulon low emission diesel oil. Only company I know of that sell 'ultra low saps' oil for diesels in Australia. I'm probably wrong, but I can't find anyone else who does.

  • How silly I noticed this offer but thought it was some brand at 20% off and it was 20% off everything, had I looked into it or checked it out more I would have noticed.
I wonder when next offer will be at 20% as something I need I'm sure keeps going up in price and checking there ebsy it was like $10 less back in July,so that price alone a refuse to pay more. But even if I had taken more notice of this ended deal I would have probably grabbed it. Sort of want item now but another 20% could be long time wait.
So might just need to grab a similar cheap item from Bunnings instead.
