The outlets are too close together.

    • +4

Yep. Pretty much impossible to plug in a fat ass power adapter without losing a socket next to it.

    • +1

Yep I agree, lost 2 sockets due to some stupidly phat ass plugs.

It's a large enough device to have wider spacing!

Man why is this surge protector so obese?

    • +8

the fatter the better to absorb all the electricity.

      • Wouldnt it better to use sponge

    • +4

      Hey, that hertz!

  • +1

Is this better or the cyberpower one?

    • +1

I think i would trust a Belkin one more.

Having said that I have the cyberpower one and it seems like its good quality. Comments from the other thread says that it won't really protect you at higher voltages though.

      shrugs

Its better than my old one.

      • Thanks @circly. Appreciate your feedback/

      • This is OK for most appliances but its rated too low for a PC or TV in my opinion.

        • What would you recommend for a PC?

    • +1

On paper, the CyberPower appears to be better. In terms of Surge Suppression, the CyberPower is rated at 2750J compared to 900J on the Belkin. Also, the Belkin doesn't mention EMI/RFI filtration unlike their higher-end boards whereas the CyberPower does.
I've also seen CyberPower used in several data centre environments so I would tend to trust their products.

Surge protectors are for flat earthers and vegans only

does the usb always use electricity?

    • Is there a load?

      • -2

Does the USB ports use electricity when nothing is plugged in? Do I have to type out everything for you noobs

        • Yes when there is nothing plugged in, electricity just leaks out the port.

@smartazz104: Do you know how transformers work or you only watch Hollywood movies?

    • +2

      Sometimes it uses water.

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/belkin-surgeplus-8-outlet-2-usb-…

Bunnings looks decently priced @ $38.90 for people who don't have ebayPLUS.

    Considering grabbing one tonight.

    • At 25% higher cost, I'm gonna HODL.

    • I price matched this at officeworks a few weeks ago, so it came down to ~$36 something.

      Their standard price was $69!

      • Was… and still is. $69.95 to be exact. Price match is the way to go.

  • Dont have Plus, shipping kills it. Amazon has it for $35, not bad if with Prime. EDIT: bloody 6 outlet only. :(

  • +1

900J of protection is really quite low for a big powerboard. I'd be expecting double or triple that if connecting a PC or TV up to it.

  • Sidetrack a little, is it necessary to have individual switches? I've only been buying those with individual on/off switches and always wondered if it's safe to use those without.

    • +1

Only if you want to save money by saving electricity.

And since you are on OzB…

  • My computer powerboard just shit itself tonight, can anyone recommend something? It was a hunt-key that just carked it (computer refused to turn on and was making a crackling sound). Swapped the board out and i'm on the computer BAU now.

  • Go buy from office works and price match bunnings to get 5% off

  • Back in stock at Futu eBay. Thanks OP!
