    My first trip was in June. I went back again this year in March / April and it was so busy because of the blossoms and tourists. Much preferred June, although it was a little warm and wet some days.

  everyone always says "don't go to japan in summer". Not sure why though. I live in Brisbane and the climate seems pretty similar.

      You don't hear anyone say "don't visit Singapore, it's too humid". But for Japan in summer… always.

        I was there in July and it was very hot and humid. Sheets of sweat, and big rainy times. Tried going to the south but just as hot. 38c and ~95% humidity some days. Actually left early because of it. Your experience may vary due to current climates.

        Seriously. I warn people about Singapore humidity all the time. I felt like I was swimming through the atmosphere. Sounds like I will need to avoid Japan in summer.

    Japan summer will be fine if you are used to a tropical climate like Brisbane. However, you'll be outdoors walking around a lot more than you probably would at home in summer, so that's where there is a difference. I went in July for 3 weeks and it was really hot in some cities but didn't slow me down, it's also part of the experience and you get longer daylight. Also had breaks from the city heat as went to some towns at higher altitude which are cooler. Kyoto was by far the worst in summer because it's in a bowl.

  I went July and August. Wouldn’t go again. Too hot.
  Dry hot though.

  Optimal time for me would be.
  End of April into June.

  Or October to December before the cold

    Went December/Jan few years back and it's a great time to go - almost no rain, heaps of sunshine, great for lots of walking, cheap hotels, far fewer tourists. Plus new years day visiting temples with the locals was amazing! Certainly would much rather go in winter than in summer.

      Yeah I'd second that - we went mid Jan this year. Really worried about the cold, but ended up being mostly beautiful clear days, and hardly a tourist around at any of the major sites.
