  • Yep thats a deal for sure, and a pickup buy is great for those who dont like to wait on dell's delivery.

  • +4

God that's tempting. Wish I wasn't out of work at the moment :'(

  • Mmmm 27" monitor… I wouldn't mind one :)

  • Very tempted! Does anyone know if the stock availability on the HT site automatically updates as people purchase?

    • +1

      Hello Ninijar

yes the stock does update automatically online however at times there are delays on processing orders so this slows the live stock levels

the best way to check current stock levels is to call 1300 139 999

  • great price

  • +1

So tempting. But finishing my job tomorrow and havent got another one lined up yet LOL. Good buy for those not wanting to spend up on Eizo and the like. I run 2 x 24" Dells atm and couldn't be happier.

    • +5

lol.. just googled "Eizo"… that comparison is like Ferrari vs Hyundai

      Eizo 27" = $4000+
      Dell 27" = $636

      • I'd say Eizo = Ferrari, Dell Ultrasharp = Toyota, Acer = Hyundai (when it comes to LCD monitors).

  • I'm on the fence at the moment. Is there a better monitor coming out soon, (non dell, eg samsung PLS or something)?

Or is say 2 x 24inch, or even 2x the cheaper 23inch dell IPS a credible alternative (i know its only sRGB)?

Is this absolutely the best monitor at this price point?

    • For that resolution, size, etc, I believe this is the best monitor. I just wish they'll bring out a version with LED backlighting (like the Apple version which costs a lot more and has fewer inputs).

      • +3

Be careful of LED backlighting. If it's not an RGB LED backlight, the color gamut is actually smaller than good CCFL.

        • +3

+1000 not many people realise or appreciate the significance of gamut

        • @kimmik
Place them infront of one of these things and then they WILL appreciate the significance of gamut when they go back to their crappy monitor.

Heck when I got mine last year, I had a 22" Asus TN running beside it, I gave the 22" to my mother.

    • Yes its the best at the moment! the REZ is super HD :) you also have the Apple 27" Display but its a ripp off just like most of apples PC alternatives

    • It's an 8-bit IPS panel if I recall correctly, which basically means, shows more colours than standard panels (usually 6-bit). Very good colour representation for photographic/video work. Also, games look amazing at 2560x1440.

Some tech types could probably give you more info about the panel type.

Personally I prefer to work with 2x24" so I can have main graphics window on one monitor and all the tools/palettes on the other, but space constraints meant the one 27" was a better choice.

  • I am running on 3 x 24, found it better then 1x27 for desktop application, for video media ofcourse the 27 will be better choice

    • it would be better to get 3*27, wouldn't it?
      LOL.

      • and better again to get 3*30, wouldnt it?

        I have two 30" at 5120x1600 rez :)

      • +1

Everyone here know price is the limitation roll eye
        $600=1x27=3x24

        • Which 24" monitors are you using?

        • njninjar:
          Dell ST2420L

        • Thanks, those aren't even IPS (nor high enough resolution for me). In this case, I'd prefer a 1x27" to those 3.

  • I think it's a great deal too. I'm running a DELL high end 24" and the picture quality is excellent. The stand is not, but that's fixable.

I would get one of these, but I'm a gamer, I'm waiting for them to release a 120hz model. Then I'll start waiting for a bargain.

But if you're after a big monitor with excellent picture reproduction then this is a really good buy.

  • +2

great monitor, except for the antiglare coating. I hate glossy screens, but the antiglare coating on this is really distracting. give pictures a 'sparkling' effect. I purchased from Dell and was able to return it, they have a good satisfaction policy. I really wanted to like this monitor, but couldn't get past the grainy look.

    more info here:
    http://peterhallam.com.au/dell-u2711-anti-glare-review/

otherwise highly recommend it for everything else.

    • I bought the U2711 monitor from Dell 20 days ago. I wanted a super hi res display to sit next to my existing excellent Dell 2707WFP monitor. I have to agree with dalvin because I will be calling Dell tomorrow to ask for a return. It is a love hate relationship because the color and resolution is stunning, but every day my eyes are fighting with this constant sparkly grain. Some times you 'see thru' the grain and you may get used to it but not if you are using it next to a monitor which doesn't have this effect. I used the 15% coupon and the $50 amex deal (up to 30 Jun) and $43 from Moneyback co so my final price was $586. I really wanted to love this monitor but they 'ruined' it with overly agressive AG.

    • I'm really tossing up whether to buy this or not now. Is there any way I can see what you guys are talking about with a picture through my current monitor? I know it'd be hard since mine doesn't have the coating, but maybe a picture taken with a camera so I can see what you mean?

      • The grain is so fine I doubt a photo would work. Also the 3D perspective of your vision increases the sparkle effect.

  • HT what about running one of these great deals on the 30" Dell??

    • +6

We currently have no stock of the 30" screens so we wont be able to offer a deal at the moment, However I will chat with Dell and see what we can organise

  • Can't afford it myself, but superb bargain. Kudos to HT!

  • +3

I wish it was just a little cheaper.
I really want this monitor, but a normal price from Dell is $799 and with the 15% off coupon everyone knows about it becomes $679 which makes this deal only a $40 saving.

    • -deleted.

    • +1

But its also a BUY it and pick it up then and there if you want… DELL has a waiting time of a week that not everyone likes

  • +1

    Max Resolution 2560 x 1440 !!!!!

  • Wait, what? 1920 x 1080 or 1080p is touted as being "FULL HD". Is that false then if this monitor is 2560 x 1440?

    • +1

      ULTRA HD, B*TCHES! haha

      • -1

        Uh…. no…

This is nowhere near ultra high definition. UHDTV = 4320p

    • +1

This is better than FULL HD.. :P

"FULL HD" is referred to as 1080p.. that said, you won't really find any media content that has a higher res than 1080p.. (well, you might, but its quite rare)..

    • good question, i cant answer it, but id like to know too.

edit: refreshed the page and the answer was there.

what sort of media do you find at those resolutions? just pictures and maybe some specialist video footage?

      • Pretty much just test shots and mucking about. I know that Alex Lindsay and the Pixel Corp did some 4K stuff and put it on youtube, but as has been pointed out, pretty much nothing can show it, so it is just for fun.

Some iMax stuff is shown at 4K+. I believe certain scenes in Batman - Dark Knight were shot and shown in 4k iMax (the opening fly in to the rooftops, when Batman jumps out of the buildings in Hong Kong etc).

Most cinemas show stuff in 2K resolution which is effectively the equivalent of letterboxed HD.

  • +5

$662 delivered for me with HT

Spoke to Dell. They are pricematching the $636 with free delivery.

Still a positive from me for the opportunity.

  • +3

Amazing; Five hours since the deal was posted and we still haven't got someone asking "why not get a TV instead?". :)

      • +2

1920*1080 @42" and 40cm from your eyeballs looks really bad.

And the colour reproduction/accuracy is another debateable point.

      • +2

You don't know the true meaning for resolution…

Those aren't PC viewing friendly at all…

      • +1

        maybe he was being sacarstic..
(look at the post he replied to)

  • Officeworks is selling a 27 inch LED LCD Monitor for $399. Does anyone know the difference between the Dell and the LG one and which one is better? cheers

    • The LG is likely to be a 1080p panel which is less than this one with its 2560x1440 resolution. Also, the dot pitch on this Dell will be sharper and the Dell will probably have more inputs. I've got this Dell and highly recommend it.

    • Also this is IPS (I believe) the LG one won't be.

  • Great deal, these are awesome monitors. Friend has one, looks amazing. Shame my graphics card can't play gpu intensive games at 1440p

  • i have a dell 24" 2405 that i got in the past, how does this monitor compare apart from the increased size and 2560x1440 resolution?

I have an i7 pc, with an ATI 5770 1Gb graphics card

colour rendition ? viewing of text, etc ?

    • If I recall correctly the 2405 was the precursor to the current high end 24" dells with the 8bit panels, so the colour was (is) already pretty good on them. We were using them for compositing for TV and film and they did well.

  • bought this thing (10/07) at one of HT's store for $100 more expensive, while the monitor is great, shame the price dropped $100 just 3 days after. Can I do a 'found cheaper price claim'?

  • Awesome deal. Hoping HT will reduce the price for the U2410 as well.

  • $499, cmon' Dell.

  • I work on 4 of these on our control desk.. hurts my eyes running them in native res but damn are they sharp :) I'm planning to get one for my end-of-year BF3 rig

  • I'm thinking of getting one as a 3rd 27incher (I have two 27 iMacs atm,

are they vastly different to the Apple Cinema Displays?

  • The key is to ring Dell, mention this promotion, and Dell will crush the price even more.

    Sad (for Harris), but true.

    • +2

We are actually losing money on this deal as we need to burn through stock that we have had for a while

so to all those who support us we thank you for your efforts

      • Don't worry, I am supporting HT. Not going to bother to ring Dell etc.

One question thou, I just order now (Saturday) for a North Ryde pick up. Do you think I can pick it up later today?

    • won't crush but will match with free delivery

  • This is a great monitor - I'm running two for photo/games/general.

    Highly recommended.

  • Awesome monitor. I had it set up with WinXP but it didn't look very good as the text was not rendering very well and XP didn't really know how to handle such a high resolution display. Upgraded to Win7 and now it looks stunning. Very tempted to buy a second one to match.
