$150 off Aligners @ Smile Direct Club

14
OCTSMILES

Smile Direct Has come out with a new product. It is an aligner that you wear for 10 hours, so night time and while you sleep. Much easier on teenagers the ones they are famous for that you wear pretty much all the time. It takes longer, about double to time, but we were looking at braces for a year anyway, so no big deal.

Also, get a free scan at any of the local centres. Don't go for the mail-in kit, if you mess it up you have to pay to fix it up. Best to get them to do a full 3D scan. Bonus for us, they still had tooth whitening kit at the Gold Coast location which they were giving as part of last months promotion. We got it free which they say is valued at $150. Not sure if I buy that value, but its free and I will take it.

But the best thing is that the night time aligners are the same price as the regular ones. Plus $150 off too. Plus payment plan with my extra fees.

    What is an Alligner ??

    • Teeth straighteners

        whooooosh

  • These are one of those instagram/facebook celebrity fads that rarely works…

Their share prices are dropping like rocks and they are being sued left and right

    As a clinician, good luck.

10 hours a day? No x-rays? No clinical check to exclude gum disease/decay/cracked teeth, just relying on the patient claiming they're good? There's a whole host of other things I'd like to comment, but I don't want to be slapped with a C&D - which has occurred, and which should warn you about the sort of business you're signing a contract with.

  • -1

    say cheese!

  • -7

I spoke to a dozen parents, and each of them has kids who have done it and no problems. I have been looking at these since before they started when Invislinger came out. Did my research and could not find any evidence of lawsuits or complaints. Funny thing is Invisiligner bought 25% of this company as well.

Only people I hear screaming bloody murder as orthodontists and those whose business is going to suffer from this industry disruptor. Like Uber did to the Taxi industry, aligner providers will do in this space. So great for the consumer, not so good for the denti's kids trust funds.

      It must be true then…

      • -2

Nope, your kids might get mess up. It might be the alligners, or just JVs kids

        • +1

          Are you smoking something?

          You comments are incomprehensible

    • +1

Like Uber did to the Taxi industry

Oh, you mean like break the law???

      Is that the analogy here?

      • -4

Uber didnt break the law. They entered an unregulated space. Now they dominate the industry. Taxi drivers are now better trying to copy the model.

        • +1

          Uber didnt break the law.
          They entered an unregulated space.

          Unregulated?

Why did the taxi drivers pay the government $200K+ for licences then?

Why did the government have to change the law for them to operate, if it wasn't illegal?

        • +1

Taxi drivers are now better trying to copy the model.

Yeah, Uber drivers are doing really well, aren't they?

"remote teledentistry" "reviewed by a registered dentist or orthodontist"

    run away, run far away.

    • -3

It is not for everyone. Some people prefer to have crooked teeth or like to pay up to $20,000 to get it fixed.

      This is ozbargain.

Where is the bad deal here for you to neg vote it?

      • Where is the bad deal here for you to neg vote it?

Read the voting rules. You can -ve vote for other things too…

      • +3

        OK I'll play.

I have had FOUR children go through braces.

Some Q's that need to be asked:
Where are the "dental" teleconferencing rooms located?

In which country are these dentists "OR" orthodontists registered? and in which country did they gain their qualifications? Note: dentists are NOT orthodontists, and the "or" part provides no guarantee of who will provide treatment?

How are teeth moved from high gumline positions without wire?
How are the benefits of bands ignored?
Does the "or" dentist ever in person sees mouth of patient?
How are the teeth "retained" in position after said treatment?

Why is this so ridiculously expensive for what you get?

        • +1

The paperwork says they're AHPRA registered, aka in Australia. Unfortunately (eyeroll), it is very likely beneath the standard of care to sign off on an orthodontic treatment plan with no xrays whatsoever, let alone no clinical examination. Hence, a lot of us are really super curious who on earth decided they'd get into bed with SDC, because this is pretty much just waiting for a test case for them to lose their registration.

They aren't supposed to address more than simple adjustments of the social six, and a Vivera-style retainer would likely be sent at the end (much like how Invisalign itself works). Of course, anyone who signs on with anything beyond simple adjustments will be told 'caveat emptor', and they will likely be unable to do much against some really deep pockets.

          • -1

@kwchaz: You get a 3d scan. X-ray is useful if you have a cavity or tooth issue, which I would go to a dentist for and not pay a premium to have an ortho do it.

I was keen on Invisalign, same exact thing, being touted by an ortho who quoted $9000 for the treatment plan. Involved the same exact service as Smile Direct. The only difference is paying a premium to go visit an ortho.

So if orthos are providing such a grand and mighty service, why do they sell Invisiliger - the exact product Smile club is selling?

            • -1

@eman resu: @Likes2rap I know what the 3d scan is. I have one of those scanners in the clinic right now. It is not a diagnostic scan for any of the issues that could arise with orthodontic movement. Orthodontists do not do checkups. I alluded to the issue earlier when I said "[they] just relying on the patient claiming they're good".

Orthodontist treatment plan would have involved attachments (which would have allowed for advanced movements), refinement trays, and would have addressed your bite and occlusion, rather than just the social six. It is not the exact same service as SDC, especially notable given Align have committed to walking away from their relationship with SDC ending this year.

I will not comment on the rest of your post because saying so will risk a lawsuit. If that does not scare you, then you are putting your head in the sand.

Read what I said. I know of 4 other parents who got it done for there kids. Great reviews from them. Also thousands of satisfied customers all over the world. Rooms all over Australia. Check out the page before you start talking out ur woohoo.

Dentists are registered here. I take my kids to the dentist every 6 months for check ups. The dentists do everything but braces. So orthos are just specialised dentists that have had a stranglehold on this business for years. Who cares where they studied, if they are licensed in Australia that is enough for me. 90% the medical staff in hospitals are non-white, what the hell does it matter what country they came from?

As for teeth positions, they do not take hard cases. So again, the take the typical misalignment.
You get a retainer to keep the teeth after the treatment, same as you would braces.

Why it's so expensive? Really, this is Australia. I can get braces done in Thailand for $2500 but here it is $9000 for the same product.

AS for the professionalism of orthodontists. Everyone knows they are in this job as they failed medical school.

  • +3

the harm this can do far outweighs the cheap costs. people have had the impression material set in their mouth having to go to hospital to have it removed.

    • +2

Yup. Could potentially end up costing many thousands more just to get your teeth back to pre-treatment condition. AVOID!!!

      • -5

yep lotta dumbasses out there. So the company is to blame if some tard uses it the wrong way and then comes on here to neg vote?

  • +2

OP, how can you unequivocally back this product if you've only been using it for a month? Using phrases such as "this industry disruptor" and "thousands of satisfied customers all over the world" makes me feel as though you're affiliated with the company. If not, their sales staff have really done a number on you.

This 'remote teledentistry' caper sounds very suss to me.

  • +3

Op asks about $3k braces then comes here 6 months later with this crap and bagging orthodontists.

Yeah no dice. Don't go cheap on dentistry.

You can click on the referrals and get an extra $150 off as well. So potentially $450 additional value and better product than the usual ones you wear all the time.

Can't combine codes, it's 1 or the other, which makes this 'deal' no different to a referral.

    • -3

      Proves my point exactly.

Been shopping around and researching this for a long time.

$1900 is not cheap. It is in fact expensive. But at least I am not paying 900% premium for the same service you would get in Thailand at an ortho who studied in Australia but opened up back in his home.

@miq, I wish I was associated with them. The founders are each billionaires now. And poor suckers who failed medical school to be dentists and others are crying little babies….waaa waaaa i lost my kids trust fund.

  • +4

Real reason OP is posting this shit

Just a grab for referrals, that's all it is

    • -3

2 others on that list. I see you also have your name of referrals too, whats the deal with that?

By end of the month, hundreds. The silent majority on ozbargain will decide without wasting time talking to losers who have nothing better to do than complaint about things they cannot afford.

      • +1

I see you also have your name of referrals too, whats the deal with that?

What are you smoking and can I have some?

complaint about things they cannot afford.

        Like $3,000 braces?

        • hahahah we already agreed who does the "smoking" few messages above.

          • +1

@eman resu: We did? All I see are comments from an immature child pretending they're old enough to be a parent 😂

You sure the braces aren't for yourself?

        • I cant help but wonder if I am depriving some village out there of their idiot by taking up your time here.

    • +1

Just a grab for referrals, that's all it is

OP must have lost too much money from 'nagacoin' LOL
