Been waiting for a decent deal on Bitdefender since I missed the last one. Its not 75% off but half price is still pretty good.
1 Year Bitdefender Antivirus Plus $35, 1 Year Internet Security $49.99, Total Security $59.99 @ BitDefender

Not much these days. Malwarebytes would be a better investment IMO.
Have Kaspersky and Malwarebytes in my system. Malwarebytes find virus a bit quicker but couldn't kill it. Kaspersky is definitely better IMO.
Malwarebytes is terrible as an antivirus, as its detection rate is much lower than for the big name antiviruses. It's great as second opinion scanner, but a terrible choice for your main security product. If you have the Pro version, you can run it alongside an antivirus without any compatibility issues.
You mean apart from take over and slow your computer down (similar to the threats they’re proportedly protecting you from)?
Stop a lot of viruses that defender misses.
They don't slow down your computer. While some people have no performance issues with Windows Defender, many find that it noticably slows down their computers at times. There are several third party alternatives, that should never noticably slow down your computer, even on low end systems.
Comodo CIS Free very solid
if you wanted paid go kaspersky KIS or Nod32
if you live in Australia and you know what you are doing with your computer you don't need a third party virus guards, windows firewall and ms defender is enough. for more info https://www.australia.gov.au/security
The problem is do you know what you are doing? 100% sure all the time?
As a true OzB stingy guy, I only use MS Defender (Windows 10). If you are on the older Windows platforms, may I suggest you use MS Essentials.
I still scratch my head as to why most ppl think they need a 3rd party anti-virus software when MS offers it’s own anti-virus software for free.
Many people find that Windows Defender or Microsoft Security Essentials, noticably slow down their computers at times. This is the case for me, so don't use Windows Defender (or any other antivirus that slows down my computers) on any of my systems.
I have to laugh at people who say they only use Windows Defender and have never had a virus or malware. Guess what? 99% of the time you wouldn't even know you had a virus or malware. That's kind of the idea. Pretty much every PC I've worked on that didn't have 3rd party AV installed has had at least I instance of malware. If you're only relying on Defender and not scanning regularly with something like Malwarebytes or Adwcleaner then chances are you have malware on your system.
So u r telling me you are 100% safe behind a 3rd party software? Lol back at u.
Absolutely not. I've dealt with some horrific infections on PC's protected by 3rd party AV. But having decent AV (like Bitdefender, Kaspersky, ESET) will reduce your risk significantly.
There is no such thing as safe. It is only safer. Just like installing a lock on your door. If you feel a standard door knob lock is good enough, then good on you. If you feel safer with the extra deadlock, and alarm then install them. You still cant say your house is now safe. And cant laugh at people who install alarm system.
If you're not click happy and keep your system updated, then Windows Defender will be fine, as long it doesn't slow down your computer. If you're no so careful, a decent third party antivirus, will provide better protection.
Note that Bitdefender processes the payment outside of Australia so you'll be charged a foreign transaction fee by your bank (unless you have a card that doesn't charge for that)
What do third party antivirus etc do for the every day person that windows defender doesn’t?
