For those who prefer the Lonely Planet travel books over the iPhone apps, I just went to Myer today and got the New York City Lonely Planet guide with 30% off the full retail price. From $37.99 reduced to $26.59. Good deal especially when you do not have to pay for postage & handling as you would with an online store. The sale also includes cookbooks, biographies, travel and adult fiction books.

It's A$11.85 at Amazon UK if you buy £25 worth of stuff in total (to qualify for free shipping).
My observation of this place: Dont bother posting book deals unless they come from online sales at Book Depository and Amazon. Even the closing down fire sales of Borders and Angus and Robertson dont come close to the online prices…
You're right, they don't. You can't expect people to get excited over a "special" at Myer, of which you could undercut (and drastically) any day of the week from an online source. And anyway, these days you have to get lucky even to find a clerk in Myer, just so you can pay for the thing.
only time these discounts are good are when they are reduced and there is an extra reduction (like 75% off mark prices), got a few books back then like that (andrew jones autobio, that was less than 5 bucks)
besides that booko is ur man!twilight was 1 buck at angus and robinson today lol that was cheap!
omg edward so hot…. NOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
just kill me please guys… T.T
Stabs WillKillfor5Cents Asian style gang killing then walks off with 5 cents
Was there today (Myer Melbourne, flagship store). No staff around. Sign at book counter directing customers to Card counter. No staff in that department either. Closest staff member was serving someone in suitcase dept.
Also plenty of clothes lying on the ground (basement), filthy store (eg. walkways/escalator) and dirty clothes on display. How much did they spend on their new store again? Management must have never gone into the store since refurb or don't care either. Do they want to be in retail?
As jump22 pointed out there are at least 13 other places you can get this book cheaper than the 30% at Myer. Even WITH shipping Amazon UK is cheaper.
Unless you were heading to NY tomorrow this is really no deal.
Slightly off topic, but if you are spending some time in NY and are more of a do it yourself person. I would recommend the Not For tourist Guide of New York. IMO, it is way superior to Lonley Planet if you meet the first two conditions of this paragraph.
Myer's 30% off is from the RRP. Not sure if Big W or Kmart or similar sell Lonely Planets, but their standard pricing is about 30% off RRP. Therefore Myer is only bring their price down to Big W levels at best.
Myer have a lousy range of books & they are always in disarray. They don't put effort into their books range & it shows… Even Big W's book dept is better, & that's not a very good choice. But at least they keep the shelves in order.
What you said right down to the letter.
These kinds of discounts can be useful if you are searching for a specific edition of a book, especially one that is limited to the Australian market and unavailable from other websites.
nice one, I'm on my way to Myer anyway.
