    I saw 8TB Iron Wolfs for about $280ish with 20% off coupons from eBay but otherwise just get an external drive and shuck it if you aren't hardcore about NAS-specific drives.

  If you missed out, and want a NAS on a budget, there is a seller offering refurbished generic 4-bay NAS boxes on eBay for <$180. With Intel J1900 CPU, 4GB RAM. I posted that deal on here before though it was pulled for insufficient quantity (only 5 available).

  I bought one previously and installed the free OpenMediaVault software. Fantastic fully-featured NAS on the cheap. Spend the saved $ on higher capacity drives.

  I already have an old QNAP but now want to buy a new Synology and use the old QNAP for backups. Does anyone know if it's easy to backup from a Synology to a QNAP? Or should I stick with QNAP only so that I can use the built in software which makes it easy to backup from QNAP to QNAP?

  I was contemplating Synology vs DIY. Went the DIY route - just for the itch.

  All AUD
  Odroid H2 190 (incl shipping)
  Crucial 8x2 85 (Non ECC)
  Intel 512 Nvme 90
  5v4a Adapter 20
  DIY Case + fans 20

  Running OMV 4.x / Docker with couple re-purposed HDDs and it hasnt missed a beat. I would suggest equivalent or better performance.

  I couldnt find a ECC RAM compaible solution in my budget. 918+ doesnt support ECC either. 918+ has 4 bays vs I have 2.
  Would rather spend on cold backups. Currently experimenting with Duplicati+Backblaze B2.
