NBN Starter Package: $55/Month for 12mths, 50/20 Unlimited Data, $0 Modem, $0 Setup, Free Mobile SIM with $80 Credit @ Belong

2780

NBN STARTER PACKAGE:
50/20 connection (advertised as 30/20 during peak hours but actually no shaping of speed so its actually just standard 50/20 speeds anytime)
unlimited data,
12mth contract,
$0 Wi-Fi modem,
$0 standard activation,
$80 mobile credit
TOTAL = $55/mth

T&Cs = https://www.belong.com.au/content/dam/belong/downloads/CIS-B…

**To see the $55 per month price, select Starter in the speed selection box, its also only available if signing up online yourself, if you call sales they will only offer you the Standard Plus plan or higher
**

if you dont want to lock into a 12 month contract then its still only $60/mth but then you also have to pay $60 for the wifi modem even if you dont need it and want to BYO modem.

another thing to note with the Belong billing system is that they only start billing from the 1st of the Month after you come online with them, i put order in at the end of August, with my connection starting on the 2nd of September so effectively you get whole month or there part of free too

      • Thanks for the link, happy to do my own research when pointed in the right direction. Here is the relevant quote.
"We don't charge you anything to move your Belong service to a new address. If you're moving to an nbn area, an additional connection charge may apply if you are in a newly constructed building."

  • +1

I signed to this deal 3 weeks ago.

Connection was easy as already had Telstra cable.

Belong router is a little black crappy device with poor signal strength and hard to access my attached USB drive with movies and tv shows etc. The big white Telstra router was way better so I might try to switch back.

Also I had 114mbs with telstra and now have 47/10 line speed now on same line.

    NBN is puss.

  • Sorry for the ignorance, But I can't see anywhere that it says the speed is 50/20. Edit: read above.

  • Noob question as I'm looking to sign up for my parents but does this include phone calls. If not is it possible to add on phone calls?

    • nope Belong has no VoIP service/home phone line included but does include a mobile sim with $80 credit on it which depending on there mobile phone situation can give you basically 8 months free on there $10/mth mobile service that includes call to all local and mobile No.

tell them having a home phone line is a legacy that is really not worth the cost to keep around in this day and age much better to have mobile service in an emergency these days that can use GPS to pin point the call then a VoIP service that only works if you have power.

      • Agree. landline, say no

  • Any gamers who use this service here happy to give a review? I'm tempted but I've seen comments of poor latency.

    • latency isn't great. Mine is 10 ms.

Edit: but other than that I'm happy with Belong, for me at least great speeds and cheaper than my ADSL2+ plan and faster.

  • Very tempting, but just not sure about the 12month contract! Will have to look into the ETC.

  • It's a great deal if things are going well, but if you have internet problems you'll most likely be in pain. My first two years with Belong things went well, then after moving house I signed up for another 12 month contract with them for which they didn't honour the terms (including not providing a promised new modem), I had terrible connection problems, they persistently overcharged me $5/month in spite of asking them not to several times (eventually they stopped overcharging but didn't refund for past overcharges), and I had to enounter their horrible (but easily reachable) customer service. Suffice to say I'm not going to stay with them when my contract ends..

  • -1

If you churn to Belong half way your monthly cycle finishes, do you get refund for unused days?

  • Cheers OP, bit the bullet and signed up. Fingers crossed, but should be fine. I have crappy FTTN and have had a 2 yr contract with Internode and been with Aussie Broadband the last 7 months, and my speed is no different no matter who I'm with, around 25-30 mbps max. $14/month cheaper than ABB.

    • why not wait till beginning of oct? your suburb is?
later, let me know the day your service is active with belong please thanks.

      • I read through most comments, are you questioning why I havnt waited until beginning of month to connect so I get first month/part month for free as someone suggested is the case?
I technically have to wait 2-5 business days which is up to 7 days I guess including weekend, so would probably not connect until early Oct. anyway.

        • I see. Yes I hope that is the case. I'm planning to register on this Friday or next Monday evening

      • Update: ordered Tues, received modem today(Thurs), plugged in, waited 5 mins and done, connected.
Same (crappy) speed as my previous 2 NBN providers, ABB and Internode, due to factors beyond their control, thanks Libs.
But yeah super fast and easy from sign up to "setup". Thanks OP.

  • +1

    Good luck.
It's always a risky feeling doing online, like I did with Aussie, but it was very quick, easy and professional.
Good timing as my Aussie just went up $20, like lots of others here. Was going to go with Kogan, but this is an even better deal, other than the 12 month lock in.

  • Just signed up
Turns out belong is a division of Telstra. Hopefully not a bad things

  • Thanks OP. Can I make whatsapp and skype voice and video calls on Belong wifi/? This is a big factor for me to switch.

    • Yes, you can.

      • Great. Thanks. I was in doubt as someone mentioned that they don't support voip.

  • To get the $80 credit, do I have to be a new customer? My wife is with belong I was thinking to sign up under her name and get $80 call credit. Is it possible?

    • mobile sim with $80 credit is in the modem box when it gets delivered, but i think you can only have 1 mobile service per account , nothing stopping u just having a second account under different email address

    • Use a referral code to get extra $20 credit. Worked fine for me :)

  • so wat peak speed is everyone getting? i literally just signed with tpg a few hours ago, read alot of negative review on belong on extel on here about peak speeds. please let me know ur peak speed thanks.

    • You can't just look at what other get, there are many other factors. That's why we see many negative reviews for every provider because people not happy they get different speed from people in different state or suburb.

  • Hi does anyone know if the Aussie BB modem would work, byo for six months would be good (with one month free signing up on the 2nd), as my ABB goes up $20 soon from the promo first six months $60 unlimited. I think to can call up too unlock it? No contact obviously. Could always get internode I think it's 60/month too.

  • +2

from my description "only $60/mth but then you also have to pay $60 for the wifi modem even if you dont need it and want to BYO modem." so basically call it a $60 setup fee with a free modem you could then sell on gumtree or ebay

yeah the ABB modem will work fine and be prob be better then the belong modem its not locked only NBN provider i know who locks there NBN modem to its service is optus

alot of other promos for 6 month discount if your fine paying $60 as you said internode, tangerine, if your ok with $69 vodafone recently dropped the requirement of there wifi hub so you could do BYO on there 100/40 plan for 6 months and then move again

    • Yes, really only want to pay $60/month for 50/20 and don't need unlimited but the slower/smaller GB plans aren't much cheaper anyway. The timing would work out well and with Belong if i signed up on the 2nd I'd get a month free in theory.
      Cheers

      • +1

yeah don't forget to also use a Referral link mine or a random one at the bottom of the deal description gets you $20 off your first eventual invoice in November,

        • Yeah will do, not signing up until the 2nd cheers

  • I ordered this day of posting, says my connection is active but waiting on details..

I can't seem to track my modem now? Since my connection was activated? Hope it comes today or before weekend at least.

    • damn quick turn around is a plus i guess but bummer if you were hoping to get whole month free, hope you at least used someones referral for the bonus $20 off first invoice.

did you have NBN before you dont have to use the Belong modem, if you had a NBN modem already as long as it not locked to old provider it should work, normally modem is super quick delivery i got it day after i ordered, are you in a regional area?

you could prob check with them via facebook chat to get a updated tracking No. if you didn't want to bother speaking over the phone.

      • I know I should have waited , but I wanted get NBN asap.. I got a text a hour ago saying modem is out for delivery so I should receive today all good. How do I get my login details?

        It says

Your broadband service is currently active but usage details are not yet available

        • Belong uses IPoE to connect not PPPoE so no login details as long as you have sync it will just auto connect

what broadband/modem did you have before? you might be able to just change some settings on your current modem and will work.

          • @FreoIsaac: I used 4g modem mate so wouldn't work?

            • @Brendan86: yep guess your waiting for delivery driver then, could always go down to officeworks pick up a cheap NBN modem incase you miss your delivery driver and then return it once you do get your delivery , my officeworks is lenient enough in there Change of Mind Returns policy– 30 Days

i think when i first got NBN with skymesh like 2016-17 there support team told me my budii lite would not work for FTTN, went to officeworks picking up what i thought was NBN compatible picked up wrong box got another ADSL modem, went back same day swapped it for exact same looking box just NBN model. then once i had internet again i went on whirlpool and found some others using skymesh and turned out i just had to change a few settings like VLAN tagging and connection method and my budii lite worked. ended up returning the officeworks modem a week later.

was using my budii lite up through the last 6 months with ABB $20 discount but i could tell it was on its last legs as if it dropped sync it would take 10-15mins to get sync again. the Belong modem is alot better besides locking me out from changing the DNS settings

              • @FreoIsaac: Thanks mate,

I collected modem yesterday evening, I'm getting 42mb download and 19mb upload. Very happy I must say thank you.

                Brendan

    • Ok in this case I will sign up on the 1st evening. No way they will activate on the same, right? Hehe… Fttn

      • I actually called them up as my service is already active but I don't have my modem.

I asked about this whole month free business and they said you don't the remaining month free but they will just give you the difference pro rated. something along those lines.

  • Is the modem locked?

  • Would moving from my current ABB HFC connection be any different with Belong?
It's the same cable right? so what factors impact the speeds when using different providers?

    • +2

      https://www.aussiebroadband.com.au/blog/factors-can-affect-s…

the main thing with different providers is the amount of CVC (bandwidth) they purchase for each POI , ABB and superloop are some of the very few who publish their bandwidth usage on CVC circuits

so its good to know who your provider purchases there CVC bandwidth from, Vocus is known to try and skimp on the CVC purchasing to save money so people who's ISP uses vocus as back haul provider will have issues with congestion during peak hours, its one of the reasons ABB moved away from vocus early on and started building there own network

      https://www.aussiebroadband.com.au/help-centre/nbn/connectio…

Belong uses telstra wholesale, and for my POI they certainly have enough CVC bandwidth but YMMV depending on if Belong have enough CVC purchased for your POI

Well, signed up Tuesday, modem arrived Wednesday (regional area), activated Thursday. Speed test 47/18 evening. Very happy.

  • Ordered on the same day OP posted, modem was delivered yesterday and got connected last evening. Getting the same speed as when I was with Telstra NBN 50/20.

Super happy with the turn around time and yes also received a Belong sim card with $80 credit.

    Speed test results https://ibb.co/12vt0KX

    Cheers

  • For anyone that's using Belong - Are you using the supplied modem or did you BYO?

    • I'm using Netgear Orbi, working seamlessly.

  • That $80 credit, if I don't need, is it easy to sell?

    • Try classifieds, should be able to sell it.

  • +1

I signed up on the 25th. I just got an email to say my service is active. But I still haven't received my modem.

I called up Belong and they said my service with AussieBB is still active and I can continue to use their service until the modem arrives.

Can I confirm this is correct?

I always thought that they had to disconnect the service with AussieBB before they could active their service onto my line. I'm on HFC.

    • +1

easy way to test it would be to do a speedtest does it say ABB or telstra for your IP, would also maybe give ABB a call just so they know your canceling and moving to different provider so they dont start billing you for next billing period.

yeah FTTN they have to disconnect old service before new service will go active not sure if HFC has multiple UNI-D ports on your NTD where your current modem plugs in, if so plug it in to UNI-D 2 port see if Belong is active on that port.

no requirement to use the Belong modem on the Belong service can easily use what your using already and sell the Belong modem on your classifieds of choice.

      • thanks mate. Much appreciated.

  • Currently with Optus Cable, rang them and their cheapest NBN is $70 per month. Offered me a 10% discount to stay but think I'll go with this deal at $55.

  • I strongly advise to wait for few more people to provide their feedback on speeds before you sign up. I was with ABB and I was getting 43 Mbps on 50/20 plan and with belong since I signed up I am only getting 14Mbps max. Although videos on 4k seems to be running fine. I tried modem restart and call their tech support but he advised me wait for modem but I highly doubt modem has anything to do with it since the same modem was being used for 2 years with no issues

    • +1

What do you sync at? seems weird u have no issue with 4k streaming but only get 14 Mbps maybe if ur modem is set to auto dns change it to google or cloudfare

Here is test i just did

      https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/5340810110

      • I don't know what changed but I am now getting 48 down 20 up. So all fixed. All I did was log back in my router and did the speed test within the router settings. So happy days now

      • Looks like mine has also been shaped to 30mbps. Was with ABB and my downstream used to be 45mbps but now with belong, it has dropped to only 31mbps. Speed test only getting 26mbps

        • Try what I did. Log into your modem and test your speed again. Maybe some magic happens there. Who knows

  • I have already signed up but no payment has been made yet for 1st month. Any way I can get referral credit?

    • +1

you won't get invoiced until around the 1st each month it was at the bottom of description of the deal, so if u had waited until early October after the 1st you would of got the rest of October free as first invoice would of been November.

in regards to referral credit there would of been an option during sign up to put a referral code you should put my code or let the ozbargain referral code generator that shows under the deal description to get $20 credit when you do actuallly get first invoice.

      • I have read your comment about starter and standard plus have the same speed. just want to confirm if starter plan can support 3 or 4 people streaming simultaneously? thanks

      • If moving from Cable to this deal, when in the month is it best to sign up? I assume they will take a while to get it connected?

    • Try writing to Belong support. I once missed where to enter the code while signing up to the Belong mobile. I wrote to them explaining this and gave them the promo code I wanted to use. They kindly applied it retroactively.

While a lot of people complain about Belong support, they get a big thumbs up in this case, and for the few other times I've written to them seeking clarification over some things. But obviously I'm yet to hit any big challenges that others have faced

  • May I choose the starting date since my contract with ABB will end in 24 OCT?

  • Been a sad weekend with no NBNz.
    Tue morning - signup
    Wed morning - modem received
Fri morning - AussieBB disconnected (end of my month)
    Fri/Sat/Sun - 😪

It’s OK, I’ve vented to Belong chat 10+ times 🤪

    • I got the other way around, my service got activated today. Signed up friday. So I have to pay for Oct as well.
The rep assured me it takes as early as 2 working days but this is way too early.
Was tricked into signing up too early.

      • just have fingers crossed the system might not pick up that its active yet and not generate you an invoice, i know i was activated on last day of august on the 31st being a Saturday but when i originally got notified when i put order in it said it would not be active until the 2nd of September being the Monday.

i didn't get any invoice generated for September for broadband just another mobile invoice and $10 taken from my $80 mobile credit which was not a fan of as it had just taken $10 when i activated it few days earlier on the 27th of August, bringing me down to $60 left, not sure if its worth bringing it up with them as i rather they don't go into looking when my services were activated and go oh yeah sure here is $10 credit back on your mobile but also here is invoice for September you should of got too.

  • Tried to sign up but got the message that Belong don't service my area (Chadstone 3148, inner SE Melbourne). Strange because I'm currently with AussieBB just fine. Is this assessment accurate and correct?

    • +2

had this issue too my unit would come back NBN not available even though i had FTTN already with ABB unit next door would say it was available, as Belong uses the telstra back end to check your NBN status sometimes its not updated to what NBNco records have, you can either use telstra chat to have them submit a address rematch form to NBNco takes about 48hrs for telstra database to rematch to what NBNco have then should be able to sign up as normal on Belong website, or contact Belong to do the same thing both take about 48hrs.

i went with telstra chat option gave them the details i got from https://futurebroadband.com.au/sq/ Tech Details: There is a connection to an NBN POI (XXXX) for the location LOCXXXXXXX using CSAXXXXXXX. they happily said they would submit the rematch form to NBNco and 48hrs i should be fine to put a order in with whoever i wanted.

i also had Belong do the same just to be sure, so not sure who's form got the details changed but 2 days later and Belong website showed i could signup.

      • Thanks heaps for this info. I'll give it a shot.

  • Well I signed up 4 working days ago and the NBN activated my service today. Now I'm just waiting on the modem to be shipped and the service to be activated. Fingers crossed!

  • Signed up last week for month by month.

Service active nearly straight away but no modem yet but looks like I was charged 60 for a few days of September and 40 today. 60-20 referral credit. I thought they wouldn't charge til modem arrived but maybe not.

    • +1

I really think that is unacceptable (activate without modem) unless during sign up they ask if you have your own modem and happy for them to activate asap, or prefer to wait for your confirmation that you have received the modem before they switch on the service.
If me I will try to call and complain. its like you agree to buy the car today, they deliver today but the wheels are still on the post..

    • +1

my guess is if you went on month by month and not the 12 month contract , the $60 would be for the modem, and $40 today would be as you said for October you should be able to see invoices in the app or on the belong dashboard https://www.belong.com.au/account/

  • as i will be busy tomorrow, i am applying now. no way they will do activation right away after hours.
hmm so the referral code goes to "promo code" that is tricky.

  • 7 days since my order, still no activation SMS.
Gave the online chat a break and call them instead. They claim my order got lost by NBNCo so they will lodge a new application tomorrow.
    No Bloody Network…

    • Ha - called again today and was told it would be up to another 5 days now for NBNCo to come out and reactivate my connection after switching from AussieBB. I would have thought they could do that from their desk? If not connected in 7 more days will try to cancel my 12m contract and crawl back to AussieBB.

    • Hey muncan, any luck? Has it been activated? I think I am heading down the same road. 6 days and no bloody service (I have FTTP - which normally takes hours to activate).
I am seriously considering cancelling on Monday and go with Superloop or ABB.

      This is sooo frustrating :/

      • We’ve reached out to NBNCo on FB Messenger and they advise they haven’t received an order from Belong for our address. Just spoke with Belong (call 1300 235 664, and hang up if you get the O/S call centre and try again - the AU call centres can help, O/S can only read from a script but not actually help you) and the latest advice is the problem is my order is submitted from Belong to Telstra, and then Telstra are meant to forward this on to NBN automatically, but this isn’t working for a number of customers, lucky us. The earliest anyone can look at this is now Tuesday. I was told the 12 month contract hasn’t started so there wouldn’t be any early termination charges from Belong. Calling AussieBB now to see if they can reconnect me over the long weekend!

Edit: just spoke to AussieBB and signed up again. They think I should get an activation message within the hour!! Will let you know…

        • +1

And I’m back online with AussieBB!
Less than an hour as they said…

I guess I’ll make one more call to Belong.
          I will enjoy this.

  • Just signed up!

  • I signed up with belong last night 6pm, currently with tpg NBN. until midnight everything is normal when wake up the tpg NBN doesn't have internet connectivity. Damn… What's going on….

    • what type of NBN , FTTN requires previous NBN to be disconnected before they can change it over, nothing out of the norm maybe check with Belong see when your expected to come online with them now that TPG is not online i only lost sync for about 12hrs during my FTTN change over as soon as i had sync again i just power cycled my modem to have it pick up Belong IP.

      • Yes fttn. tpg said belong took over at 6.38am today. Yes belong said this downtime is normal. But I haven't received the belong modem yet. They said try with tpg modem once I got SMS activation from belong.
The only good is they can see my application is progressing and said I won't get billed for October…..

        • yeah its great that they don't hide the fact that they wont bill you until the 1st of the following month after you get activated. what type of modem you using with tpg your prob better off keeping that and selling the Belong one on classifieds of choice. you don't have to wait for the sms, just keep an eye on the sync light once it comes back on you should be good to go and just powercycle the tpg modem.

might have mods take my referral code off the deal as i got my first invoice and had $220 credit, $200 from being a Referrer and $20 from being a Referee using another persons code during signup , so basically 1/3 of my yearly internet bill covered, plus got September free too.

would be stoked if there was not a limit on the amount of referral credit you can build up but it states $200 for broadband and $200 for mobile is the max and i assume i wont get $200 mobile credit if people are using my code to signup for broadband.

        • I'm in the same situation. My TPG NBN got disconnected early hours this morning (probably 1am) and I still haven't received the SMS activation or the Belong modem.

          • @imed: do you know if the tpg modem will work? apparantely belong is using IPoE but tpg is PPPoE so we need to change some settings. i will try a bit later.

            Protocol: IPoE (DHCP)
            VLAN: None/blank
            Login: No login required

i thought changing fttn is just like porting mobile number. old one off then new one on. oh well….

  • Just signing up now to the $55 starter, may as well do no contract for $5 more (I've got a BYO modem from ABB)? Good not being locked in and also renting.
Is it possible to remove the $60 modem fee (or is that the non-started plan)?

Edit will just sell the modem.

    Cheers

  • Thanks, just signed up. Used a random referral for another $20 off.

  • and… the modem was on the front door this morning 3/10. ordered 1/10 at 7pm. no email saying the modem is coming…
would this modem better than tpg modem? maybe i should try and compare later.
now time to sell the simcard…

  • Signed up today, activated today, using now.
