United Airlines deal not available on Qantas Ultimate

They are a terrible airlines for their practices. They also killed a passenger's dog in the overhead locker

  • +2

Annoying that the Marriott deal won't work outside of Australia, but I can't help wondering if the offer might trigger if I elect to "pay with AUD"

    • No, it wouldn't work. Each Marriott hotel has its own name in your Amex payment log. What they do is that they check the name of the hotel and determine whether you are eligible.

But can you buy giftcards with Marriott Bonvoy?

        • +1 for this question as well though they are not as adept and knowledgeable with how gift cards work in australia

        • +1

I can semi-answer this question but its not good news :) Apparently since the merger of SPG & Marriott into Marriott Bonvoy, most hotels in the Marriott chain wont accept the general gift cards you can purchase from the website (very annoying). For example I wanted to gift some family a stay at the Sheraton Hyde Park and i had to fill in a paper form (!!) to apply for the gift cards and then collect them personally before I could gift them. I think we are a long way off before global Marriott gift cards can be used, in Australia anyway. Although I cant say if the experience is the same overseas at international hotels.

@smurfstah: Dam that kinda suck because I know in the US they allow giftcards to be purchased online. Learnt recently that you have to call Marriott just to bloody transfer points.

          • @smurfstah: @smurfstah when you paid for the Sheraton Hyde Park Certificates did that trigger spend and eventually cash back? i.e. did they swipe your card at the main terminals connected to the promotion?

            • @thatsthat: Hey mate, when I purchased them there was no cashback promotion on but yes I would believe it would work as the payment would be directly with the hotel chain :)

    • there is a list of hotels stated in the terms and conditions. So i suppose not.

I wanted to buy Marriott Bonvoy points - unfortunately doesn't look like it matches either.

      • +1

I was thinking the same thing. Just received a "save 30% when you buy 2000+ points" email offer. Anyone who has bought points know what merchant name shows up on your credit card statement?

        • +1

          Probably points.com

  • i got the offer on a few of my cards for Catch if someone buys a Gift Card Type: eGift Card and receives their amex credits please post here otherwise i think ill let it past?
