1% better then last deal…, should I wait for 88% cashback?

    • +8

wait 12 more weeks for 100% cashback

    • +2

There's one now for 88% but it's with Cashrewards.

  • +5

Still waiting for my cashback from last deal, as well as many other "pending" status, wouldn't buy expecting a guaranteed cashback

    • +7

I bought earlier and cash back is all godd.

      • +1

cashback takes 90 days to be confirmed and ready to be withdrawn.

      • +1

Yep, mine came through last week.

      • Did you select Australia in the payment section (and cop the 10% tax) or kept it as USA? Just thinking in regards to the cashback being validated…

        • +2

Kept it as is (USA) and got Shopback confirmation soon after.

      • Which godd? Jesus?

Dell wouldn't honour the cash back with my last order. Shopback is dodgy!!!

      • Dell probably had your order earmarked to a different referrer (like OzBargain or Google). In that case Shopback doesn't get any money and cant pay you. If no one is marked then if you can provide the transaction to Dell and a note from their system showing you clicked through and they can be the referrer if the company accepts.

(At least this is my understanding of how it works for all the cashback websites)

        • No Shopback acknowledged the purchase but Dell still wouldn't honour it. Shopback can't be guaranteed to give you the money.

          • @Gusper:

No Shopback acknowledged the purchase but Dell still wouldn't honour it

So the problem is with Dell then, not Shopback…

            • @deadpoet: Actually both, Dell because they don't honour it, and Shopback because they didn't honour it.
In fairness they are still trying to sort out out 4 months later but I only found that out in the last 5 minutes.

    • my cashback went thru about 2 to 3 days after I bought the one last week

  • Is the shopback app reliable with regards to tracking?

    • yes

    • Switch off any adblocker or browser antivirus plugins, and it works fine. Adblockers and antiviruses can block tracking cookies - normally a good idea to block these, but cashback sites need them to work.

      • The app has a dedicated browser so you don't really need to worry about that unless you have system wide adblockers and such.

Anyone using them in Brisbane / care to share speeds?

  • +3

What is everybody using their NordVPN for?

All I can think of is maybe for accessing US Netflix if that still works and torrents.

What else do you guys use VPN's for?

    • +2

Getting past geo-blocking and I've found that some streaming sites perform much better through a VPN than without.

      • +1

Any good examples on the streaming sites that perform better?

I tried a free VPN a few times before and I must have been using it wrong but it didn't get around geo restrictions.

Mostly video restricted sites in the UK and US.

I think I am honestly just not smart enough to use VPN's.

Would be nice though for a Netflix subscription or Hulu etc.

        • +1

I think I am honestly just not smart enough to use VPN's.

Nuh, you’re just thwarted by smart network and security engineers whose job is to prevent commercial or copyright restriction bypass.

        • Some sites like Netflix will identify the save IP (i.e. from a VPN) being used across a lot of accounts and blacklist it.

I've had better luck on sports streaming sites like joker****stream and the Sportzone app, where it'd someone freeze up a few times without a US VPN.

    • +4

      Piracy.

    • For everything. Unless you want to get tracked and used as a guinea pig while your information is sold and you make absolutely nothing I would suggest a VPN

      • Dumb question but do you have to always turn it on from your pc everytime you want to go through the VPN or can you just configure the router so that anyone connected to your routers WiFi will automatically go through the VPN?

        • +1

You can do either. Depends how you want it configured really. But if your router doesn't support it then it won't matter.

        • +1

If you have a more advanced router, you can even set specific devices (by IP address) to route all traffic through VPN and have others go without it.

          • @skittlebrau: Ahh nice, I have an Asus dsl-ac68u, I'll have to read the manual haha thanks for the heads up

            • +1

@montorola: I have the same router and had this set up pretty easily. There is an easy guide to do this online via express VPN. Just google it as I'm not sure if this website will think I'm posting an add if I link it.

    • Bought it mainly for security. However recently used it to get around geo block and use it to watch modern family on Netflix. Works when using German location. Also marvel movies appear in this region as well.

    • I use VPN's more for their routing paths instead of security.

E.g. Latency for Telstra to US East coast is ~290ms, using VPN ~220.

If you have lots of cash, use MUDFISH. VPN's are just an easier way without much configuration.

Does this work for Netflix USA on Sony PS or Sony Android TV?

    • Works on my pc and MacBook but not on android TV box or iPad……not at the moment anyway. It used to and they’re well aware of the issue but not sure if they’ll ever sort it out.

  • Probably not specifically for this deal (NordVPN) but if I have VPN app on my Android phone and turn it on then tether my internet connection, should I expect the device getting internet connection from the tethering will be on VPN as well?

    • No, doesn't work. I tried it earlier. There are some apps to tether over vpn but require root.

      • Thanks for confirming.

  • I bought this last week. It's too slow. Don't waste your money on this people.

    • +1

Have to choose the right server. I max out 800Mbps easily. Try this script I made: https://github.com/trishmapow/nordvpn-tools

      • Thanks. I use the quick connect in the app. Even if it's initially OK, by time it gets soo slow I can't even browse the internet. Then I have to manually disconnect and click quick connect again to get some data flow going.

VPN's should mostly be set and forget otherwise it's just an annoyance.

        • I've found quick connect to be garbage a lot of the time, connect to a slightly more popular server

    • I thought it ran really slow based on fast.com speed tests, so it might be slow for netflix. But for every other use, it's been great for me.

  • These discounts are getting a bit suspect. How long until they pay us to use the product. I got this for under $40 AUD at 82% cashback. I know the markup on this product must be massive but still doesn't make sense to me

    • Never had a problem getting cash back

    • Got my shopback $$ after 90 days.

  • Not recommended. Not working on all platforms.

  • Been with PIA for 3 years and due for renewal in 2 days.

I use it for torrents etc. Is nord good for this ?

    • Here is a good write up regarding VPN privacy for private activity:
      https://torrentfreak.com/which-vpn-services-keep-you-anonymo…

      1. If the order or subpoena is issued by a Panamanian court, we would have to provide the information if we had any. However, our zero-log policy means that we do not store any information about our users’ online activity – only their email address and basic payment info. So far, we haven’t had any such cases.
    • +1

Recently switched to Nord from PIA as they've become expensive and speeds are fine for torrents. Haven't had an issue with maxing out.

  • +1

Is it a warning sign when VPNs do deep discounts like this? Are they running out of cash and therefore raising money while not improving their services? Can we expect speeds to be worse as they take onboard more users without increasing capacity?

    • Nord's been doing deep discounts for years. Their three year plans get this sort of discount all the time.

      Take that how you will.

  • Speed is great. Still getting the same 100/5 speeds I'd get without the VPN.

    However two issues:

    1. Can't use it to watch new Zealand or Australian catchup tv. Even if you connect to the NZ or aus servers.

    2. Facebook Messenger doesn't work properly when connected. Keeps losing connection. Very annoying.

    • ABC iView not working with Nord VPN?

Does anyone know of a service that works ABC iView when traveling overseas?

      Thanks

  • I bought it full price a year ago :(.

I mostly use it for restricting my access on restricted WiFi/torrenting/changing my location.

    Works good for me.

  • What's the best VPN for Netflix?

    • Express VPN I found quite good but expensive.

    • +1

ExpressVPN for USA Netflix and Hulu hands down.

Have tested all paid versions PIA/Nord/Express/Windscribe/Tunnelbear/Panda/IPVanish.

Nord has more locations.. but most of the time you have to go on support chat to ask which usa servers are streaming activated for example… They're slower because its cheap and is thrashed by everyone around the world more savvy than ozbargainers

  • I've asked this on the last NordVPN cashback and I'll ask again.

Would this work on a Shopback account that entered a previous NordVPN cashback deal (but is unsuccessful)? I previously entered the August cashback deal but it failed since I used an existing NordVPN account, which prompted me to report it only for it to get stuck on 'investigating' and I've already got NordVPN to refund the purchase.

I'm planning on making another email for this deal but I'm concerned I'll have to make another Shopback account and they won't sponsor the deal since they'll recognise my bank account details and get suspicious or something.

  • Why the hell was my negative comment deleted and my negative vote revoked. Not allowed the to be negative? This is bull politically correct management, I can't trust the comments on oz-BAR-negative comments for personal-GAIN if the comments aren't complete.

Pretty sure not getting my money back is a major issue, and in this case the retailer is Shopback as this is the link and it's the major component of the deal.

    • Your comment wasn't deleted. It's still there, just hidden because of all the negs.

  • Signed up from the last deal and tracking seemed fine.

still haven't been able to get decent speeds using openVPN set up on my Asus router.
Using the client works fine though

Although one issue I am having is catch up TV like 7/9/10 don't let me watch, even though I'm using Aus servers.

  • As an FYI, I was able to watch AFL games on KAYO via my Vodafone mobile account overseas (UK and Europe (France/Germany/Switzerland)) last month using the free 1.1.1.1 for mobile app. It is not a true VPN like this one but if you want to be able to watch services like Kayo overseas then the free 1.1.1.1 should be considered.

This is likely a tracking vector issue for anyone using VPN. We know that Shopback/Cashback in fact any online rewards scheme track all your online traffic, the ACCC have recently said as much. If you pay for this on the same device you use VPN with our another device that can be traced to you they can still track all your online activity. Word of warning.

    • Use a privacy focussed browser if that's your concern. I presume you're talking about tracking cookies from ShopBack or something but it's not really clear.

  • I currently use Ivacy and the speeds are terrible when the VPN is on, does anyone else get this on ADSL2? No my area does not have NBN lol

  • Gave it a go… liking it so far. Hoping the cashback goes through tho.

    • Update… just got the cashback notification. Better than expected.

  • I've just placed my order. But the website was nord-help.com, not nordvpn.com. It looks legit tho. Are they the same?

  • Do they actually have mainland Chinese servers available? Anyone knows?

    • The NordVPN connection screen does not show "China" as an option. Not to start a political argument, but it does offer "Hong Kong" servers

  • What is the code for? when I apply the code, nothing happen?

Also should I just leave USA to avoid 10% tax, will it become an issue with ShopBack?

    • I was thinking the same thing. Looking to sign up but do you have to use Australia and cop the 10% surcharge?

      • +1

I followed as my question above. left is as USA. It accepted my credit card. Just got confirmation from shopback

  • anybody got luck with setting NordVPN with Google WIFI Mesh? I'm using Vodafone TV atm and heard that it doesn't support any smart TV.

  • +1

I'm always amazed at how many people are happy to get scammed into VPNs. There is zero reason to be using one.

Don't be fooled into thinking they're protecting anything. If you're going to pay for anything something like real debrid is a much better option.

  • Does it affect the Internet connection? When I play PUBG using Seed4ME VPN, the latency is very high during game.
    Would the NordVPN be better?
Also if I select USA when checkout, am I still legit for the cashback?

  • Just confirming I also got confirmation just from shopback. Signed up 1.5hrs ago. Made sure all my adblockers were off. Activated and used the vpn.
Seems a lot faster for general net browsing compared to ibvpn which I use. Will test p2p later

    • Did you select region USA to avoid 10% tax?

  • Still no cashback acknowledgement from cashback :( I may need to cancel if it does not come after 2 days.

    • +1

      You've got 30 days…

    • Still no acknowledgement email from Shopback after 24 hours.
How long will it take normally?

      • FWIW I always receive my Shopback confirmations within 24 hours for pretty much everything.

      • send a report - login into nord generate invoice & recpt ( as you will need inv number to lodge query on shopback site). attach said rcpt for payment confirmation in shopback - & wait. i just did this.

  • No Adblockers and antiviruses during the transaction.

    Anyone experience the same thing?

  • Finally i gave up my old VPN AND SUBSCRIBED to this offer thanks to dealbot
They activate my cash back within few hours and hopefully we will be able to withdraw money in November.

  • Does anyone have experiences using a VPN and travel sites and finding cheaper flights / holiday deals?

  • NordVPN doesn't allow P2P services to be hosted (ie. seeding, plex etc.) which sucks majorly
    https://nordvpn.com/blog/port-forwarding/

Glad I didn't pay a lot for it assuming I get the cashback eventually

  • Thanks OP. Very cheap indeed.
Does anyone know if I need to install NordVPN for shopback to confirm the cashback?

  • +3

Has this expired? Shopback app saying it's 30% cashback now.

    • I second this. Showing 30% now. 87% cash back seems expired now.

  • Out of interest has anyone been able to get US Netflix on a recent model Smart TV running Android? I have a router setup but I'm led to believe that the latest versions of the Netflix Android TV app has protections built in to defeat VPNs and proxies.

  • Is anyone having issues with Shopback?
I had no issues initially and the sale tracked - however I was logged out of Shopback recently and when I logged in again (albeit forced to do so via Facebook due to their dodgy login window screen), the sale was gone, and there was no evidence it ever tracked.
Finding it very frustrating because at this point, I'll be ~$100 more out of pocket than I expected!!

Shopback is giving me no help at all, saying that no sale was tracked (even though I saw it with my own eyes that night!).

Any suggestions as to what I should/could do now?
