$3.75 a season

You thought your life was bad. Try being an incomprehensibly successful writer with a gorgeous wife. Unfortunately for Larry David, co-creator of Seinfeld, four hundred million dollars and the woman of his dreams (Cheryl Hines) are no match for the constant turmoils that wreak havoc on his daily life. With the help of his manager Jeff (Jeff Garlin) and best friend Richard Lewis (Lewis, playing himself), Larry tries to maintain some semblance of order, but when trouble seems to find you everywhere, that isn't so easy. Curb Your Enthusiasm is, quite simply, television at its finest, a brilliant and hysterical work of comic genius that absurdly, yet seamlessly, blends reality with fiction.

Larry would say that this deal is pretty…pretty…pretty…pretty good.

  • +7

    Great Show.

  • +3

    Wish it was Blu-Ray.

    • +12

First 6 seasons were done in 4:3 480i anyway, only the last two got a "HD" version (and it's not like more pixels will make Larry David look any better).

      • +3

Yeah I would say its not much point on BR since a situation comedy doesnt favour HD or fhd etc.

        • +1

Blu ray scratch resistance is better than the picture quality imo when comparing Bluray and DVD

          • -1

@Faro: Sorry, but that's just silly. Standard 1080p BluRay looks a lot better than DVD. Scratch resistance is good, but I'd take better image quality any day.

What kind of neanderthals still use physical media anyway?!

            • +2

              @Fappo:

What kind of neanderthals still use physical media anyway?!

People who appreciate high-bitrate and at least lossy as possible video and audio. Ask anyone who had the misfortune of watching GoT E08S03 about why physical media is superior.

              • @daitro: I was only joking with the neanderthal quip. Hell, I still use and love valve amplifiers and vinyl records. Obviously any resolution and bitrate is possible with digital media though and a medium isn't necessarily to blame for somebody making a dog's breakfast of things.

      • +3

Original format would be 16mm though like Seinfeld right?

The Seinfeld 16:9 refresh looked pretty good.

        • Yeah new pic quality is better, but unfortunately the 16x9 sacrifice crops lots of the intended props/ contents from the lower parts and sometimes ruins the context of the original scenes. You can look it up on you tube

        • +8

Seinfeld was shot on 4-perf 35mm, not 16mm, actually benefits from HD, and despite some bad cropping at times still usually has some extra picture info on the sides. Similar to, eg. Friends or The Wire.

Curb was shot on 480i video. HBO have provided cropped-to-all-hell upscaled HD masters for streaming (eg Amazon Prime) that have gone through a sharpening filter and it looks like complete and total arse. At best you avoid some MPEG-2 compression artifacts.

      • +3

They could fit the first six seasons on a single triple layer blu ray disc. That'd be handier than swapping two dozen DVDs.

        • +1

True. I just wish someone who wasn't Foxtel would start getting HBO rights so I could just stream it on demand instead.

          • @freefall101: You could try Plex/Infuse for home media library? And use your existing legal rips of the dvds and blurays.

      • lol, you obviously still use a CRT TV?

      • Just get one of those amazing TVs that can "upscale" everything.

    • Wish it was a digital copy

  • +9

    Prettayy preetaaayy prettayy good

  • +1

Same price at Sanity as well.

  • +3

Season 9 was good too. Season 10 comes out later this year.

  • +8

For a while I thought that was John Howard.

      One's a war criminal, one's America's greatest TV comedian.

      • +1

Ouch! I just cut myself on that edge. Some prior warning next time, please.

      • +1

One sold all of our assets and killed the future for our kids, one brings joy and light hearted entertainment.

  • +2

Season 1-9 are on Foxtel Now BTW if that's of use to anyone.

  • +1

    Available on Prime Video

    • I’ve never been able to search it. Unavailable in aus?

      • +2

I don't think we get any of the HBO stuff in Australia. All seems to be on foxtel

    • Seinfeld is though, iirc. The stuff Prime Video recommends is really weird, some good shows are hidden away.

      • They removed most seasons of Seinfeld

        • +1

That sucks. Feels like it should be a show that is always there. Might need to acquire a local copy again.

          • @AustriaBargain: It was too convenient to have them right there. Plus they were in widescreen. The dvds are not

          • @AustriaBargain: Was disappointed to see it go. Stan have them in awful quality with skewed pitch so it sounds like everyone is on helium. How in this day and age can they not leave it playing in native FPS. The Amazon Prime quality was stunning.

            • +1

@cyssero: I'd pirate them all, but so many HD seasons adds up to a lot of storage. Then again, it is the best sitcom in the world.

              • @AustriaBargain: I just checked tonight and it appears Prime has all the seasons again! Perhaps got added in month of September. Just watched the finale tonight, time to restart at S01E01 :-)

  • I thought that was Johnny Howard on the cover

Hear it every day. It's my ring tone.

      • +1

You get phonecalls every day?! :o

  • Favourite show… but DVDs? It’s all on Foxtel now

    • Yeah but like everything else it'll get pulled eventually online

        • +1

It will be, UK is region 4, like the DVD.

  • It’s going to look atrocious on my oled. Bought it anyway

    • It does look awful on my OLED. But it's still damn funny.

  • why is the shipping saying will dispatch next month? is this an error?

  • Loved this show, but it seemed to get rather more silly when that family started living with him, and I kinda tuned out.

Abut 15 years ago I wrote several scripts for an Aussie version with original plots but couldn't get much interest. I'm sure someone has made something since, maybe something screened on the ABC.
