Latest model with top of the line specs for 2.3k new is fairly decent.

Not latest but adequate I would say. Latest is 9th gen but given 4K screen I would say is great value.

      • Ah that's true! I was more thinking the 9380 version over the previous 70 but definitely is good value!

        • Unsure if 13 inch size but is bit too small.

@[Deactivated]: Yeah I went from the 9370 to the X1 Carbon and the extra bit of real estate and keyboard sold me.

            • @AdamFury: I have both the XPS 13 9380 and last years 6th gen X1 Carbon and despite loving bith the Carbon is better for a number of reasons.

              • It's lighter and you can really tell the difference.
              • It's more tactile so in combination with its weight it's easy to walk it around the office even when open.
              • The keyboard is better. I have the frost white XPS 13 and the combination of the back light and white keys means that you can't see the letters in daylight which is such a bad defect
              • The slightly bigger screen is nice

I'm not disappointed with either but I'll go back to the X1 Carbon next year.

Just one terrible thing about both. I have the 4k XPS screen and the HDR X1 screen and the battery life on both is pathetic. I'll never grt either again.

          • @[Deactivated]: I agree, the size I find perfect is 14"

          • @[Deactivated]: it's the perfect size for portability. Not too big, not too small, very thin.

10th gen just came out, their new Inspiron 2-in-1s have it, e.g. i5-10210U, not sure of equivalent i7 models.

    • 8th gen when new models are 10th gen

  • They never seem to offer a black version.

    • The interior is black. Exterior is silver.

  • I just paid that much for a shitty macbook pro with 256 gb storage, 8gb ram, crapper screen and i5 CPU.

    Apple y so expensive..

    • Coz 'ecosystem' ;)

Because they need to cover the cost to replace your keyboard in a few month time. Which is essentially the top cover including the battery because good design to super glue your battery onto the chassis.

      • the 2019 model has the updated butterfly keyboard, right?

        Send me a link, son.

        • Nope… they just put rubber between the keys but I still people at apple store the other day with keyboard issues. I saw 5 cases of keyboard issues when I was waiting at "genius bar" for 20mins. It great they offer free repairs but many people were out of an laptop for a couple of day because it was ETA 3-5 working days.

edit: there is a chance they will update keyboard design in upcoming laptops.

Also the fact, apple place new macbook 2019 under same warranty repair program make you wonder if they really have fix the issue.

  • Can anyone comment on the battery life for these with 4k screens?

    • +2

as you can expect, battery life is subpar or average at best: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-XPS-13-9380-i7-8565U-4K-U…

notebookcheck often review all the variants of a new laptop so you can compare the battery life at various screen resolutions, e.g. with this Dell XPS.

i'm skeptical as to the benefits of 4k at such a small display size. but to each his own i suppose.
