Opted to put image up as there is no image at DSE site yet.

    Also comes with NFC!

I must say, Huawei make some really well featured Android phones for the price. Nice bang for your buck.

    • yeap, but what can you use it with. There is nothing supporting them yet.

      • Google Wallet + Mastercard PayPass/Visa Wave? (That's if Wallet ever gets launched over here and the banks decide to get onboard…) :P

But yes I agree, NFC would probably be more useful in places like Hong Kong and Japan where NFC-based technologies are already in widespread use.

        • Exactly, and as it current stands I still have 2/4 cards with out a chip, and 0/4 with paypass/wave. So I am not holding my breath for NFC to get adopted any time shoon.

nfc? What does that stand for? I assume not… No fat chicks?

Near-Field Communication. Basically it means the phone has circuitry which allows it to transmit and receive data in a similar manner to 'tap and go' style services eg Mastercard PayPass or Visa Pay Wave.

NFC can also be used to communicate data between different NFC-enabled phones as well.

  • Is this a lower version of X5?

  • not sure what the specs are compared to the x5 , ive got the x5 and i have to say i love it , the freedom to customise it whatever way you want is fantastic, and $500 cheaper than an iphone also !

  • How good is the Ideos? (compared to this) It's $99 at Virginmobile. I'm looking at using it for a mifi.

  • need specs on this and how it compares to the x5

  • They were giving these out free in Sydney City last week. I was walking through Haymarket on Friday and saw one laying on the ground so I picked it up and was going to do the honest thing and try to find its owner when 2 cheerleaders and a cameraman jumped out from behind a wall and started dancing around me. Did a quick interview with them (they were filming for an advertisement) then they gave me a free Huawei Sonic for doing pretty much nothing. (Not the one that I found on the ground - They gave me a new boxed one with plastic wrap)

Unfortunately I can't give a review on the phone as I gave it to a friend who's mobile was like 10 years old and they desperately needed an upgrade and well… Their review wouldn't be too reputable considering their previous phone was an old Nokia 6610.

    • damn i could do with a freebie mobile to replace my FPOS omnia. hate.

    • Gosh, I am jealous!

One of my favourite dreams is when 2 cheerleaders jump out from behind a wall and start dancing around me.

But oddly there is nothing about mobile phones in that dream.

      • Obviously the underlying message here is that you could use a mobile to take photos of said cheerleaders (and upload to Youtube).
The fact there is no mobile in your dream is the central theme, not a deficiency in your dream sequence. (Usual rates for dream interpretation apply, I accept PayPal) :+)

  • Also known as Huawei U8650. It is probably basically a revised Huawei IDEOS (U8150).
    X5 is only $50 more…

  • I went to pick up an X5 at Dickies yesterday for $279 (see other post in ozb, cbf linking) and then I came across this and saw the $248 ticket price. I did a quick google of it on my phone and was slightly confused. I assumed cause it was running 2.3 that it'd be a newer model, yet its processor is only 600mhz compared to the 800mhz of the X5, a smaller MP camera (not that it really matters) smaller screen (3.5 vs 3.8) and smaller battery (1400 vs 1500).

For an extra 30 bucks the bigger screen got me plus I already had my mind set on the X5. I guess when/if they eventually release 2.3 for the X5 then its a no-contest, yet I'm new to android so am not sure of any significant feature upgrades from 2.2->2.3

If you want to save 30 bux and don't care about screen size and processor and all that I guess go with with this.

    • X5 can be easily rooted & the processor boosted safely to well over 1000mhz, too. The X5 is still easily the better value phone.

  • Still happy with my U8150. I don't see this as being worth the extra $$ over the U8150 and I think Huawei has missed the mark with this phone. There's phones from other manufacturers with similar spec to this for the same price or lower. They need to bring out a 1Ghz phone under $300. That would be something.
