Good desktop replacement laptop for gaming.

It's an old model, but still s very good deal (I think). Come with HD5870M video which is faster than GTX460M in the current model.

Damn good machine and definitely more of a desktop replacement than a laptop.

    Are these new or refurbs?

    • Didn't say refurbs on the web and it state 2 yrs warranty. I'd say it's new.

  • lol anyone see the vid for this

    • Haha, yeh it's pretty cheesy.

Nonetheless, still a great laptop if your not planning on taking it anywhere.

Just noticed, it's got 4gb less ram than the one I used to own (same model).

  • Sucks about being first gen I7 >.<

    But looks good nonetheless :D

Unless you want to use a LAPTOP for gaming for some reason, otherwise I wouldn't recommend this build for serious gamers for a few reasons

    1. Sandy bridge CPU is the current trend, like said above, first gen i7 is just not good enough for this price range, certainly not for gamers (i5 2500k, i7 2600k would be the ideal choice)

    2. GPU Graphic Card in the package is pretty outdated, and for gamers, GPU is one of the most important parts, any serious gamer willing to spend that much money would pick a GTX 560/ 560ti / 570 card

    3. 7200rpm HDD is good, but it's better getting one 1GB HDD than 2 x 500GB, because that takes up your slots and limits your future upgrades. (Samsung Spinpoint F3 1GB HDD 7200rmp is one of the most popular choices and guess what, it only costs like $65)

If you are a serious gamer, refer to Whirlpool forum's KBA below for a gaming PC that costs LESS and performs BETTER.

Why on earth are you comparing a desktop to a laptop? Of course you can build a desktop with better specs for less money. One of the reasons though why I will never buy a desktop again is because it's a hulking mass that sits in your house. I have a gaming laptop and the reason why I bought it was because it takes up less space than a desktop and I can move it around with ease if I need to, whether that be around the house or to another country. I don't game on the go but the attraction of it is that it's a portable desktop replacement. I have 86 Steam games and I can play all of them perfectly fine with my GTX 260m at medium to high settings. It does the job for me.

    • I got this laptop to use as a gaming machine when I travel.
I have a pretty sweet rig as my desktop but not very practical when travelling.

This lappy runs BC2 np's, but it might struggle with BF3 later in the year.
About 7kg in weight if you include the power pack.
Came with a free mouse, headset and backpack all of which are top quality gear.

The new ASUS G74SX-A1 is worth a look for another $500.

    • Sure if you don't want a laptop, yes.

This laptop will play any current game on maximum (without maximum AA - it has half the stream processors of the desktop 5870 and underclocked a bit).

7200rpm HDD is "good"? Getting 1 HDD is better? That's fudd, complete flamebait right there.

I'll admit, first gen i7 isn't quite as good as the second gen i7's, but damn boy - we aren't looking at over spending $2000 here! With all of your "additions", a laptop would be well into the $2.5k/$3k range by now…

  • Icy I think everyone is aware a desktop will perform better than laptop at the same price point..DUH..this machine was given great reviews, bought it last year for $2500, will last you because it has great cooling for a laptop, bad bits are my LCD has a lot of bleed, my XPS m1710 that it replaced had a better screen, bios updates are poor and no RAID unless you do software, then you lose Windows.

For the price you get a high end laptop comparable to an Alienware, old gen or not this is a bargain.

  • I think this is a better bargain : http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ASUS-G73JH-LAPTOP-17-3-Quad-Core-…

Not mine to sell but i found it a while ago..

  • No way, no bluray writer, Bluetooth, and not full hd.

  • google up best.aussie.electronics which is the seller of that ebay item.. =)
if u want a laptop that doesnt work.. then go right ahead.. =)
