  • Hi Store Rep

Good to see Wipertech on Ozbargain.
I've use your products a number of times on both my, now sold, EA Falcon and 380 Mitsubishi.

Great wipers and very easy to fit. Your website and ordering/delivery is very user friendly.

I've recently bought a 2015 Skoda Octavia RS which requires a rear wiper as well, so would love it if I could get some new wipers via a Site wide discount!!
    Cheers

    Hey!

I need a set of these, can you match the $25 delivered? If so, you've got a deal!

    https://www.wipertech.com.au/2003-07-honda-accord-7th-gen-wi…

    Thanks!

  • Timing is everything. Wipertech too late/me too early. Just bought Tridon Curve blades (prefer them) for my ride at SCA. These Wipertechs look the equivalent of the Tridon Flex blades, which are much more expensive.

Good deal here. Jump on it.

    • Agree, just bought Wipertech for my triton early in the week. Me too early.

  • Nissan xtrail t31 please :)

  • Plus vote due to being happy with a previous purchase from them.

I don't mean to undermine anyone's efforts, but you can get pretty much exactly the same thing from ebay for $5… Search for framelss windscreen wiper. Just measure the length of your existing wipers and ensure you get versions for RHD vehicles - lots of international sellers have LHD models, which basically slope backwards if you install them on Australian/UK/Japanese cars. While you can pull them apart and turn the long arm sections around, if the mid section is directional you'll have to do some trimming (so its easiest just to get the correct orientation in the first place).

You DO need to make sure you understand the fitting system for the wipers on your car - the vast majority use the same standard hook design, but it doesn't take much effort to check your vehicle so you understand what you need first.

Here's an additional hint for anyone who thinks it's ridiculous to replace the whole wiper arm with the rubber (actually silicone) blade - I agree, that's utter nonsense. You can remove the end caps, pull them apart, and replace the blades. It can be fiddly, particularly if the whole assembly falls apart (and if you've never done this before, I can pretty much guarantee it will fall apart the first time), but it goes back together easily enough. If you go to a store they will tell you that you can't just replace the blades - they're idiots who want to sell you 30-$50 replacement arms, don't listen to their nonsense. You can get replacement rubber blades on ebay for as little as $1. I replace all the blades on all our cars every Autumn for a handful of change so we never have streaky windows or noisy wipers.

What's that? I sound like an idiot? I don't know what I'm talking about? The $5 ebay ones are clearly rubbish compared to the $80 ones? Sure, you keep thinking that and paying your ignorance tax. If you're not sure, it's hardly a big risk to drop $5 and test one out.

If you want a properly premium upgrade, I highly recommend the Denso DUR series, but you'll have to do your research to figure out exactly what models are applicable for your vehicle. I got mine from Germany for around $30 each, which was a lot more than the ebay ones but it's a completely different style and really upgrades the look of older vehicles (and yes, you can replace the blades on these for around $1 each, too).

    • Replacement rubber "refills" have been available since the year dot and they're the cheapest way to refresh your wipers, no doubt about it. Done it many times for my own and others' vehicles. Takes only marginally longer to fit than a complete blade. These days they're ridiculously overpriced for what you get imo.

Can't say I've ever heard any auto parts retailer telling people they need to buy the whole blade, generally it's the opposite in my experience. Three reasons to get new blades, none of which is really compelling for a newish vehicle: latest tech, convenience, and appearance - eventually your old wiper blades (arms) will look tatty no matter how well you look after them.

As far as knock offs go in the auto industry you almost invariably get what you pay for. There are many inferior Chinese copies of wipers, blades, plugs, filters etc that purport to be as good as the original (some actually illegally "clone" the appearance of originals like Denso plugs or OEM oil filters) but beneath the surface they're relative junk. How do we know? Because companies and individuals have cut them open, looked at the internal structures etc, and tested the materials.

That said, wipers are hardly super-high tech so fitting inferior ones may not be as critical to some. Without solid evidence that refills or blades are unbranded versions from the same factory then the best way to determine the quality of parts is price. If it's super cheap there's usually a good reason.

Being part of a national enthusiast car club for years I've seen and compared lots of brands of wiper on members' cars - the $5 ebay jobs are essentially identical to many of the $80 ones you'll get from local auto parts retailers. They consist of a plastic mount, flexible metal arm bodies, plastic shrouds and plastic end caps. The only real variation is slight differences in aesthetic design. In terms of functionality, reliability and performance there is no difference.*

From the perspective of the silicone blades there is a difference. But as long as you stick with genuine silicone blades you can't go far wrong, particularly if you replace them anually. I don't know if you can even get the old rubber ones anymore, but they should definitely be avoided as rubber is far less flexible and durable and is liable to scratch your glass.

A couple of years ago I went into a few auto parts stores looking for a blade in a hurry (I'd run out and one got damaged). I found that neither Supercheap, Auto1, Repco or Veales had stock and when I told them what I was trying to get them for I was told by all of them that 'you can't replace the blades in the frameless wipers'. I already knew this was thing, but I was surprised at the time at how consistent they all were - it was like they'd all been to the same training course.

(*) As I mentioned in my first post, the Denso DUR series are a substantially different design - if you're not sure what I'm talking about stick that into Google Image Search. They're worth spending a bit more on, but if you're paying 40-$50 or more you're being massively ripped off.

Otherwise, yes I agree with you - there are many, many components in cars that should not be compromised on. Like brake pads, tyres, plugs, lifters, even belts. But that doesn't mean you should pay whatever some local store wants to charge you - I import all my parts directly from Japan because the Australian dealerships have a 300% markup and take 8-10 weeks to get exactly the same part from the same warehouse I can get from in just five days. As with anything, it comes down to what you know - if you're not educated, people will invariably take you for a ride… :-/

        • Had silicon wipers once (pretty red ones lol) more than a decade ago now. Might have been just the ones I bought but you'd have a tough time convincing me to go back to them now - even if they've improved markedly. The two keys to wipers are obviously the "rubber" and the contact with the glass. Cheap knockoffs may cover the contact issue (less so on new curved glass windscreens), but cheap rubber/silicon (possibly)? Not for me thanks.

Couldn't agree more with your last par. Businesses employ people and have overheads (warranty, support, inventory etc) but we still pay a premium, often because of import rights. That's not a problem confined to auto parts though as we know. Tech markups are legendary.

        • Any thoughts on a multi-connector frameless blade?
This is the only cheap RHD one I could find on ebay

    • Is there a differencd between "natural rubber" and silicone blades?

      • +1

I don't know if you can even get non-silicone wiper blade 'refills' anymore. I just searched on ebay for 'wiper blade refill', sorted by price and found them for $1.28 with free shipping and they state that they're silicone. Pretty sure you can get them down to around $1 each if you buy them in bulk, but I haven't had to order any this year so haven't looked very hard.

        • May be wrong but many of the brand name wipers are "rubber' (proprietary formulated).

  • Any silicon blades?

  • Hi Rep,

Regarding order 301060994 my wipers didn't fit my Mercedes and a replacement set was supposed to be sent out express on Monday however I've heard nothing or received anything since.

I've sent a few follow up emails to "Tilly" however no response.

    Thanks,
    Jonno
