  • will deffinatly be getting this when my contract runs out in december :D

    • +4

Check with your provider first. Tell them you are leaving, and get put through to their "loss prevention" people in Aus.
e.g. on '3' get ½price $35 sim-only plan. ie $17.50pm for $500 funny-money incl international, unlimited calls to 3 and voda, and 1.5GB.

. You must call again in 6 or 12 months, or it goes to full price. Still less hassle than porting to another company.

  • $20 for shipping?

this one seems at better 12c per minute https://account.lycamobile.com.au/freesim/default.aspx?lang=…

    • +2

but you don' get data so no

    • +4

It used to be free shipping+sim but $20 deposit, but they probably changed it cause too many people were complaining about the refundable deposit. I guess some people prefer a non-refundable deposit?

      • -1

$20 shipping is a rip-off, don't trust sellers that make a profit from shipping.

        • +8

I agree. But from your comments on the earlier LC threads, you said

If the rep waives the $20 dodgy deposit fee, AND gets rid of the 30 day notice to leave requirement, I'll revoke my negative.

I dont know about the 30days notice thing, but the the $20 deposit is waived like you wanted it, and youre still complaining? Gee youre hard to please! ;P

        • +1

dont then. 100% they dont need your business anymore. Win Win imo

        • -8

They got rid of the $20 deposit, but introduced a $20 non-refundable shipping fee. That is WORSE than what it was before, so why should I stop complaining?

        • No it was $20 for sim card+shipping and $20 deposit

        • +1

          @ Urah
If that comment was in response to mine, I was referring to the recent popular deal earlier this year (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/41323), which had free shipping and free sim.
Their service is pretty good, although the usage bar is a little slow, but nothings perfect, especially for just $5 a month for $150 worth of calls + data. Im fine with a refundable deposit and so far, Im glad I joined back then.

        • "Would you like a shmoke and a pancake?"

  • Who provides the service?

    • +2

      optus

  • how many minutes can $400 get me?

    • +2

About 444 minutes (if you don't make more than 1 phone call (35c flag call rate)).

  • +1

I have been thinking about this one, but it doesn't include overseas calls/text in the cap. Really quite a deal breaker for me since I do occasionally call India or the US for longish periods. (I might have to stop)

    • +2

      skype?

    • +2

Use calling cards - far cheaper at around 2.5/c a minute. The price is almost negligible at those rates.

    • This deal includes overseas texts, but not calls in the cap.

    • +1

have a look @ pennytel sim.

  • -5

    how are data blocks billed?

    • +1

per KB billing. It's mentioned in the post.

      • fair enough

  • Seems impressive if Optus coverage holds up!
May even swap a THINKMOBILE vodaphone plan across, but on checking calls cheaper and don't need the extra for $3 a month more yet.

  • +2

We get similar deal from tpg for same price. It gives slightly less benefit ($330 instead of $400) but they recently upgraded to include international calls. I wonder if LC will be adding that feature soon. Otherwise tpg suits us better at the moment.

    • +2

I am with TPG but it does not include 13,1300,1800 numbers

      • Same here. I am tempted to transfer over from TPG (Currently on the $15 $330/$370 plan).
Having to find local numbers for every 13/1300 number can be a massive pain.

  • +15

Hi Rep, how about an intro special for ozbargainers, you had similar plan for $10.99 a few months back, give us that again and I will sign up for sure.

  • +1

Been on liveconnected for a while now, jumped on one of their specials a while ago. Legit deal, so far it's been good with them.

  • +1

I was on Liveconnected for about 8 months, switched to telstra but now going back to Live Cnnected :D Bring on the awesome plan!

  • Pricing looks good. What is their support like?

No blackberry - do any of the optus resellers offer blackberry?

  • -5

$20 delivery for simcard is not a good signal of good business practice.

I would be more than happy to accept $20 join fee or similar kind.

    • +12

Maybe you can like just pretend it's a joining fee?
      $20 = $20 whichever way you look

  • -5

http://liveconnected.com.au/administrator/ Ive used this template for one of my sites lol how can i trust a phone company that uses joomla?

    • +9

Plenty of big sites use Wordpress, Joomla and all manners of open source of commercial CMS. Its the business itself you need to judge not their platform. It may also help pass on the savings to customers!

  • Is the $400 talk to Live Connected purely for others on Live Connected?
Or is it like TPG where it can be used to other Optus and Optus resellers?

    • Only live connected. Does the TPG work for Optus resellers? or are you talking about the Optus free time on the TPG. plans?

      • Ah my mistake, its the Cap Saver plans, so yeah, that would be Optus freetime.

        • +1

Dam got my hopes up! :P

        • +1

Just to clarify - so this $400 calls to Live Connected users EXCLUDES calls to other Optus mobiles (e.g. TPG, Optus, Soul, prepaid)?

It was interesting that I could find nowhere mentioning about TPG's "TPG to TPG calls" includes other Optus users, until when I read one of the sign up (upgrade) pages.

        • +2

Sorry, my confusion was due to this paragraph I found on the TPG pages:

Free TPG to TPG Mobile (only available on Cap Saver plans):
          (4) Free calls to any TPG, Soul or Optus GSM mobiles between 8pm to midnight, every day, for the first 20 minutes of each call.

  • -5

did u guys see the rates ?, WOW talk about high rates ! lol AMAYSIM KILLS THIS DEAL ANYDAY ! What about Hello Mobile's new SUPA PLAN its WAAAY Cheaper ! CHEKC IT…

    • +3

I seriously doubt you can find a like for like plan cheaper than this. You can find countless providers that may offer one specific feature cheaper, but overall, this plan is one of the best out there.

      • -5

valid only 30days, $35 min for 1st month thereafter $15, started pack $20, voicemail 90c/min + Flagfall 35c, your better off going for a monthly cap and get a free phone with Voda/Three ! Latest plan is $14.50/mth(29Cap)(half price for 24 months)…, If you are a low to medium user Amaysim is the best valid for 3 months + NO Flagfall, 15c/min, 5c/mb or $10 for 1GB, if you barely use your phone Amaysim lasts 2-3 months on $15 credit.

But this new HelloMobile is catching attention, Unlimited Calls Local/National & International ! ONLY 25c flagfall on a Vodafone network and valid for 90DAYS, 5c/sms local & International, free 1300/1800, Hello to Hello Free + 3c/MB !!! I will try this and provide feedback interms of network quality and usage soon !

        • Wow. I hardly see how those plans compare to the ones Live Connected are offering. Maybe if those plans are so good create a 'bargain' for it?

I still stand this is one of the best value plans of the kind. 400$, 1.5GB, unlimted FB all for 15$ / month NO CONTRACT.

Anyway GL with that plan :) I hope it works out for you.

        • Do you work for hello & amaysim? The plans you listed are no where comparable.

          Quick math $10 = 1 gb.
          Pro-rated $15 = 1.5gb.
How is that better at all?

  • too good to be true?

  • +1

I wonder how often liveconnected updates the usage meter? One thing I hate TPG is the one day delay of the usage history. For my $300 cap, once I receive the $60 warning I will "slow down" because I don't know when exactly I will use up all credits.

    • 24 hours delay as well

      • +1

It's about 20 hours MINIMUM. I've seen a 5 day delay once, but it's not usually that bad. It's usually about 48 hours in fact.. so it's not better than TPG. From my experience so far, it updates slightly slower than TPG (but has a better layout).

        • +1

although they changed from reseller to optus directly. Might have been the resellers delays and getting the info directly from optus might reduce the time

    • if you are running a android or iPhone just get a app to monitor your usage, works brilliantly so far for me. try "credit usage" if you're on android!

    • what I did was download an app that records usage using the phones data, for android the app 'credit usage' does the trick, so basically you can have live info of how much you have remaining

  • Great plan, great price.

Been with Live Connected for about 3 months now and the only small hiccups were at the beginning (porting issues), but it's been fine since.

  • +1

This is a phenomenal deal and so far I cannot find any major flaws with it. I'm on the 19.99 TPG plan, and this gives me phone calls at 80c/min with $300 cap. LiveConnected are a bit more expensive at 90c/min, but this is completely mitigated by the $400 cap ($100 more than TPG!)
Plus there is about 20x more data usage on this (TPG around 60mb, but it draws down from the cap amount)
+ the whole thing is $5 cheaper! Almost no reason for me not to switch :)

  • +2

Don't mean to be a LiveConnected fanboy but:

This plan is not useful to me but I'd still like to say a "Woohoo!" to LiveConnected for the amazing value and service so far.

I switched from a crappy Optus prepaid plan about six months back and so far have been really impressed. Having said that I don't use the data allowance at all so I can't comment on that but otherwise really happy with the price and service…

  • Good deal, now time for a better customer portal? Hehe

  • It's a shame there's no unlimited text…

  • +2

Well I'm about to change over. Finally a cheap plan which includes 13/1300/1800 numbers! I'm paying $18.99 on TPG for less everything and no inclusion of 13/1300/1800. This is a winner in my book!

    • I just upgraded to the $18.99 TPG plan! I'll wait a month to see if TPG will offer anything better. Otherwise I'm switching!

  • +6

$10.99 a month Ozbargain limited discount please.

    • +2

Well now that's even better, why not break the $10 barrier and call it $9.99 ? :D

  • +1

i read somewhere there is virtually no customer support..?

    • -1

You are correct, they have no contact phone number, and it's easy to ignore emails. There is no other mobile provider I know of that have no contact phone number.

    • +1

I've sent them about five emails and I've got a reply for every single one within 24 hours. Sometimes it's faster (a couple of hours, depending on when you log your ticket).

There's my 2 cents in regards to customer support.

    • My average response time to tickets has been anywhere from 20 minutes to a couple of hours, even on weekends. They're very quick to respond and the incident is always resolved on the first-attempt.

This includes billing issues and general queries. I was concerned with the no telephone support before I joined, but after a few months (and 3 accounts later) I have no issue at all.

    • +1

I agree with the above 2 comments, their response to enquiries are pretty quick. Sometimes customer support by email is more efficient than telephone, as you wont have the issue of not understanding the customer support guys accent and what heshes saying. If you want something cheap, be prepared to sacrifice some things, in this case, customer support by telephone.

      • have you ever tried emailing any of the big mobile companies (BMCs) for support? (in the case of 3/Voda, that includes using their online form)

  • -3

Is there any minimum term for the plan?

  • -4

Umm sorry for being a big stoopid eejit, does the $20 starter include $20 in credit (i.e. you get the first month free & maybe the next month for $10?) or is it $20 for sim & postage only & no credit?

    • +2

Sigh. Im sorry but please read the first post clearly. It explains it all :)

      • the first post where? I'm guessing from the other posts the answer is no.

it's funny how some many people whom have legit questions are getting their comments neg'd out of existence…..is there a LiveConnected gang out there punishing the ignorant or questioning?

  • LC rep just confirmed via email, if you want to change from one of their plans to another, there is a plan change fee of $16. I was thinking of starting on the $7.99 light plan and then changing to the $14.99 medium plan if it wasn't enough, but the $16 fee is a bit of a bummer.

  • +1

per minute rate + flag fall is kind of pricey, but still pretty good deal.

  • +1

If I transfer from TPG. What do I have to tell TPG?

    • +1

LC should handle the port from TPG. As there is no contract with TPG should have no issues.

  • In the future once LC replaces this plan with a new one, do existing customers on the old plan have to switch plans or can they stay on it?

  • I'm also with TPG but my billing cycle ends on the 29th.

It says service will be automatically activated 24 hours after receiving sim card.

So…would it best that i order this maybe on the 25th of June, so that i have time to receive and and the number can port before my next billing cycle with TPG?

  • But can you tether with your iPhone through this service?

Tethering is blocked on TPG Mobile for iPhones because they go through Optus (which has it blocked by default). And I only found out after I joined them :(

I'm happy to move over to LiveConnected if it's not blocked.

  • -1

Am giving negative rep to this company because:

    • the company demands driver’s licence for application – if you don’t have one they ignore your application and don't tell you
    • did not communicate this or give any other option
    • refused other references (e.g. passport number) and was completely inflexible
    • discriminatory against those who do not have a license (e.g. disabled persons); this is not for the purposes of operating a motor vehicle, it is a mobile phone connection and the policy is internal only
    • Sympathy. Thats pretty fucked up.
Then again, why didn't you just make one up?
If I'm hiring a car and they ask for my license number, I give it.
For anyone else, that's just a defacto universal ID, so they think I'm 555-1234. Nobody has ever complained, even though it is obviously phoney. You have to play the game, no matter how stupid it gets.

      • Never thought of that to be honest but I guess the basic problem is that it may have some kind of legal implication if it forms part of the contract - I'm not really sure about that (not my area). Still it shouldn't really be necessary; not for this kind of contract.

        • Legal? What you need to know is, there is no law against telling porkies, otherwise we'd all be screwed.
If you lie to avoid paying, that is a crime, but making something up in itself is not a crime.
Otherwise the entire advertising industry would be in trouble.

Actually, the entire telecomms industry is constantly engaged in deception for profit. Very occasionally they cop the odd multi-million dollar fine, but to them that is just a small part of the cost of doing business.

        • Thanks Manic, I thought they may have been looking for verifiable data though for some regulatory requirement? I signed up for two phone contracts in the past 12 months and they were filling out federal government paperwork to identify the holder of the phone number….
