Advantages to the Alienware
- Warranty - while both are 3 years, Dell does advance replacement (sends you replacement first), and pay shipping both ways. Acer has you send yours in first, and you pay shipping. Shipping one of these isn't cheap.
- Potentially build qualty (debatable) - Acer's build quality has been poor enough in their gaming monitors that backlight bleed (not an IPS issue, it's a build quality issue) has been a known problem on prior monitors.
Advantages to the Acer
- Speakers (if you need them)
- 8-bit + FRC (if you have a use for 10-bit)
- OSD control for gamma (this is the biggest deal for me, on the Acer side)
And they are both using the same panel so it comes down to design and warranty.
Not sure if this is worth $600 extra indeed.
I have the Predator, had to send it for warranty and they definitely paid shipping. They sent me an email with a paid shipping label, I just had to pack it, stick the label on, and a courier picked it up. About 10 days turnaround with constant communication.
I mean sure I'd have preferred to get an advance replacement but I definitely wouldn't pay $600 for the convenience. It's cheaper to buy a second really good monitor on the off chance you do need a warranty repair in 3 years…
At this price just get X34P…
Got one of these last month for the same price. Bought the 5 year pro support warranty as well. Can confirm great monitor, but haven't really been used for gaming much as I'm waiting for a 2080Ti Techfast deal…
Make sure your table's big enough as well.
Unfortunately you may be waiting a while mate. They've said they can't get pricing on the 2080 Ti currently.
Ended up getting this: https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Ready-to-Run-PCs/Gaming-…
I think that it's a pretty competitive price to a techfast deal.
Was curious, so put it into PCPartpicker to see what the best price I could get was. Unfortunately, here's the result mate:

As you can see mate, unfortunately you could have ended up getting your system for $400 less, with more customisation up to you with the $400 saved if you wanted to upgrade parts or change things around, add RGB etc. Even including a $99 build fee if you didn't want to get your hands dirty (Umart offers this for $99 it'd still come out cheaper, matching all the specs they listed, down to the same case and a Zotac card.
Interesting to see this result compared to then Techfast's recent deal, where I did a similar price breakdown and Techfast still came out ahead by a significant margin!
If it were I, I would've gone for something like this:

Differences being, changed to EVGA GPU and PSU, as their CS in the case of RMA or other issue is fantastic. Also upgraded PSU to a more comfortable 750W and a more reputable brand.
Is there anywhere to check these out in person?
Went to Harvey Norman.. the bloody idiots had expensive gaming monitors hooked up to a splitter showing 1900x1080 content on all of them :/

Check stock at your local JB as they may have one on display.

Most electronics retailers do this.
JB HIFI Parramatta has the 1080p version on display, so if you want to get a feeling for how big it would be, it would be a pretty accurate indicator. But be aware that the 1440p version is apparently only sold on JB HIFI online, so they won't negotiate on the price. If you want it cheaper than RRP, your best bet would be to buy it from Dell Online during a sale, such as now.
JB Hifi chatswood had one on Display before
This is only 30% off not 40%
You're right, but for some reason it was written 40% at the time I created this post. I just haven't checked the actual price. Will update.
Grabbed one. Decided to use Cash Rewards as it suggests "7% on Monitors or 8.4% on Alienware" on their website vs. Shopback of 3%. Got an email with a cashback of 2.1%. Well done Cash Rewards! /sarcasm
Contact TA.
Good looking display but what makes it $600 more than the Acer Predator X34P?
