    Looks like it!

The majority, if not all, of the similarly-priced (or cheaper) drives outperformed the 960GB BX500. The BX500 did well in SYSmark, but when we factor in the overall performance results, the result is a rather underwhelming SSD.

      Fast enough

I'm really happy with my unit (from a few deals ago).

Literally can't feel any difference between this and my 860 EVO despite the reviews.

had a look and they were doing something horribly wrong benchmarking the bx500(bad firmware?). My bx500 240Gb scores much better at least in the crystaldisk benchmarks than the 960Gb in that review.

      This is my OS drive
      Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 552.442 MB/s
      Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 478.827 MB/s
      Random Read 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 219.707 MB/s [ 53639.4 IOPS]
      Random Write 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 282.583 MB/s [ 68990.0 IOPS]
      Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 218.333 MB/s [ 53304.0 IOPS]
      Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 220.334 MB/s [ 53792.5 IOPS]
      Random Read 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 30.860 MB/s [ 7534.2 IOPS]
      Random Write 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 92.158 MB/s [ 22499.5 IOPS]

the newer stock is definitely better. Worth investigating for sure. I gave this particular ssd alot of crap when people initally began to post deals on last year but the performance is definitely better than the top review websites give it credit for. Virtually no difference to my own 850 evo's and 860 evo's.

I do pass gigantic tasks through it now and then, I love to take 4k videos in my spare time and every month or so my 1tb (960gbs) card gets a healthy dose of 400gbs+ of footage that I promptly edit but there's maybe 10-20% time difference between this write time and in terms of read I think my cpu is bottlenecking the software anyway so I can't tell there, I get alot of lag on the timeline.

In short, if it can put up with what I put it through then the regular user using it as a steam library or something will have a grand old time with it.

    • It’s a tb for about $100

maybe so, but for a gaming drive this is going to be fine

edit: was meant to reply to macstevi whoops

    • Fair enough, although according to the Tomshardware article, the Samsung 860 QVO 1TB seems to be recommended at a similar price point

      Quote:
"If SATA is all you need or can use, and you really want to cheap out, the Samsung 860 QVO (which features QLC flash rather than TLC), comes in at $107.99. It is significantly cheaper and it will perform similarly, or even better, in some cases. It also comes with a higher endurance rating, too."

      Some further comparisons below:

Also some nice recent cash back deals on Samsung drives:

      • true, i suppose. the cheapest for qvo 1tb rn is $140 and then $20 cashback bringing it to $120. only issue is cashback takes a bit, so this is a good alternative.

    Once again another crucial deal
