Was looking for a good wireless security system that's easy to install and maintain for the home. This appeared to tick many of the boxes and no subscription required. This was the cheapest I could find although not sure on how long delivery will actually take (apparently 1 month?). Luckily i'm in no rush.

Use shopback to bring it down to roughly $919 - https://www.shopback.com.au/amazon-australia

Pros are
- Crisp videos, good night vision
- Wide angle lenses (140 deg) appose to 90 - 100
- Long battery life (3-4x others on the market)
- No monthly fees
- optional cloud storage
- IP65
- Good app
- Base station has battery which can run upto 48hours
- True wireless system if you have battery backup for the internet
- Facial recognition at no extra cost
- 2way audio + built in siren in each camera

Why not just get it from JB HiFi or get Officeworks to price beat it by 5%?

    • +1

Couldn't find officeworks anywhere that had stock…

      • Mmm seems like you had trouble finding them in QLD. In that case you're better off buying it from Amazon and hopefully it does not take a month to arrive.

        • Id probably just get it from jb so i cam use up my $150 gift card tbh

        • Ah back order…almost ordered until I read that.

  • FYI same sale price at Jbhifi, price matched by Amazon

  • Using shopback brings it down to $919.08 - https://www.shopback.com.au/amazon-australia

Electronics only have a 4.5% cashback. Also, you'll lose cashback if they take more than 60 days to deliver.

IMO a lot better to cop the few hundred dollars extra and get an Arlo 2 set.

The extra support and cloud services are definitely worth it if you’re going for a high level product anyway.

    • +4

No way. Coming from an Arlo and Arlo Pro 2 user, those are potato cams compared to the Eufy which I bought as their replacement.

That said my POE 2MP/4MP Hikvisions are far superior but these wireless cams are fun to play with.

      • Like I said below and for anyone who’s looking around - if you enjoy ‘playing around’ with cameras or whatever, sure go for Eufy/Argus/Blink. Just offering my experience that Arlo has been good for free cloud, app, and helpful support - cameras get the job done.

        • I find the Eufy just as easy to set up as the Arlo and the app is just as good. The biggest plus however is the video quality, which is way better than the Arlo but hey, don't just take my word for it - go look at the comparison videos on YouTube.

          • @m9: I’m glad it is! I’m not saying these cameras suck - just putting it out there that I found free cloud storage and good service a lot more important than I originally thought. For a lot of us, the camera is just a camera if it can get the job done.

            • @pifts: So have you have owned Eufy products or you're just an Arlo fanboi? Every review you find puts Eufy well ahead of Arlo's products from what I've read. Full disclosure, don't own Arlo or Eufy. I use Ubiquiti cameras myself. Interested for my folks in getting something easy. A colleague at work has just ditched his Arlo devices for Eufy, he reckons they're better.

              • @Tardvark: Nope no Eufy. I've had two other brands that competed on cost. I don't doubt (especially after commenters above) that these cameras might be better but my take on cameras is: as long as the camera is high quality enough (1080p), I only care about how easy it is to use. Couldn't care less about branding - if you gave a $300 cheaper set with free cloud storage (so I don't have to worry about local) and good support (that RMA'd some accessories one-day delivery even though I misplaced them), I'd swap instantly. Subjective experience I guess!

      • What Hikvisions have you got? Looking to get a couple myself.

          I 'm running 4 bullets and
4 turrets. These are getting old. For my next round of upgrades I'll swap them out for either these 6MP/8MP models or try the newer 4MP with ColorVu. This is ColorVu where the camera does not switch to IR.

          • @m9: Wow, the ColorVu looks rad!
Curious if you get alerts for motion detection on these, like with the apps for Arlo and Eufy? Assuming they're talking to something like iVMS-4500?
Also, where do buy them from?
            Thanks for responding!

            • +2

@Rorschach: Good thing is prices have come down drastically over the years with all these competition. For example, the 4MP ColorVu and 8MP(4K) model is about $339 and $249 respectively on eBay currently, less with promos/vouchers. This 4MP model is only $149.

I'll advise you to buy from reputable sellers, check for warranty (can't recall but I think mine was 3 years), and make sure the camera is firmware upgradeable - this is for adding new features and/or patching bugs/security holes. Plus if you're afraid of hacked cameras you can always download firmwares from Hikvision directly and flash the cameras.

Motion detection can be set in the camera itself, or using NVR/IVMS/Blue Iris/Shinobi/XProtect/etc. The NVR/software makes it easier if you have a large number of cameras to manage. Most basic notification will be an email sent with a picture of the event. Some NVR/software has companion app that you can install on your phone to receive notifications and to manage the system. The specs page for each camera will outline the types of motion detection supported by the camera, with line crossing and intrusion detection zones being the bare minimum.

          • @m9: Interesting, this one is motorised and yet doesn't look too intimidating

            • +1

@BigLeviathan: Looks like motorised varifocal, not PTZ. This is one of the cheaper PTZs.

    • What? Is it the shthouse night vision, the inability to be always on using battery & solar or inability to download always on recordings that made you decide this?

I almost fell for the hype. Thank goodness I did my research first

      • Settle down a bit haha you can share your view without sounding like an ass. I just found it easy to use and does the job - cloud storage and online support has been really good. Swapped from Reolink after hardware issues and poor support. Shocking, but some people value different things in a project!

        • +1

Hah sorry it's netgear my attitude is aimed at, not you.

There really is no excuse for those faults (or at least clear advertising of the latter two limitations on the box)

Be aware that with both Arlo + Eufy systems, the cameras only communicate with base station, it's not possible to use wifi extenders to boost camera signals. I've been reading forums on both of these products, many users resort to buying MULTIPLE hub stations in order to boost their signals. This might be a huge factor for those with big houses with lots of insulation/thick walls. If you have an average size house, should be fine. Only Ring products can be boosted with wifi extenders.

    • thanks for pointing that out !

    • Apparently Eufy have a WiFi extender in the works or if it's really bad at the moment, you could set the HomeBase to use WiFi (only 2.4GHz) and move it to a more suitable location, this is done via the App, so need to add it via Ethernet first. If that doesn't work for you, you could try the Power over Ethernet workaround, setup a PoE connection and move the HomeBase to a more suitable location, obviously increases the cost.

    Posting this again.

This system can't operate when an internet connection is down. Read the following thread before purchasing.

    https://community.anker.com/t/eufy-security-no-recordings-wh…

  • Currently am having Arlo pro 2. Do I need to upgrade to this? Cam looks bit bigger than Arlo

  • So is there a subscription required to view remotely or use the app, fella in Jbhifi I just spoke to put me off buying this system cos he said it needs a subscription just like arlo and the rest?

    • Recordings are stored locally on a SD card so no subscription required for the Eufy devices.

      • As traumatized said, it stores locally on an encrypted SD card, comes with 16GB but you can upgrade to 128GB (Max) if you like. The app also includes the option to set RTSP protocol so you can save to a NAS and they have a cloud service if you wish to purchase.

  • A bit expensive to switch now, but wish I had these instead of arlo.

How do they handle moving objects that you don't want to trigger camera?

I've had to turn off one Arlo camera because it's triggered like a hundred times a day. Think it's the lounge cover that's causing it (it moves in wind very easily). I tried to set up zones, but they didn't work (tested by setting a tiny zone in one corner and triggering from other corner).

FACIAL RECOGNITION TECHNOLOGY: Birds, dogs, and falling leaves can trigger other security cameras into sending you false alarms. eufyCam reduces false alarms by up to 95%, sending only alerts triggered by unrecognized human faces.

      • Yes, I noticed that, but does it actually work well in practice? Is there any alternative way (like zones) in case this leads to a lot of missed videos?

        • can't seem to find any reviews about the person detection feature.. however a really good cheap alternative are Wyze cams. They just recently updated their firmware to include people detection and it seems to work well. See review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AIq4-7xWx4

Cost about $26USD. Plug it into USB for power and you're up. Footage is better than Arlo and Eufy. Records to microSD. No need to pay for cloud. Notifications are free and takes about 10-15secs. Signal weak? Use wifi extender. Everything about it is really nice. The only negative is it has no siren.

  • No longer $999.
