One of these 2nd hand would be even better value. I just saw one for half this price on FB Marketplace.
At ~$300 Used, a Pixel 2XL is worth it (good condition).
Otherwise, better to get that Brand New LG V30 for $400, and throw Gcam Mod and Custom Rom on it.Sure, both the front and rear camera won't be as good as this, or other new High-end/Upper-Midrange phones (let alone Luxury/Flagships). But its better when it comes to everything else.
And with Custom Roms, you're able to push new Android builds to it decently swift and get good monthly security updates. So it should match Google's promise of updating this till 2020.
3a XL I would think
At this price the 3a xl for sure.
None, there are way better phones out there.
I'd take oneplus 7 instead
That’s subjective. I generally agree, but the Oneplus camera is dogsh*t compared to the Pixel cameras. Love that 90 hertz, though.
No its not dogsh*t.
Pixel cameras are way overhyped by android blogs and YouTubers.
Ill send you me gallery, there's like 10% of pics there that would really look better if taken from a pixel. No more.
Where would you get one from?
You can get a OnePlus 7 for sub $600?
Both are great android phones, Pixels are still the best Android phones you can get
What a time to be alive
But the issues they have for a "stock OS" is disgraceful. My Pixel 2 crashes randomly (not frequently, but it happens), has Bluetooth issues where audio plays back through the speakers even when connected to the headset (with certain headsets I should add), the Chrome cast icon in supported apps stays disabled even after connecting to home Wi-Fi until I reboot the phone, and now recently it takes forever to switch cell towers when on travelling on the train (it says full 4G signal, but Internet doesn't work and I have to toggle Airplane mode to get it to work again). Never had these issues with an S7 but the S7 became slower and slower within a year to the point I couldn't use it anymore.
Do a factory restore, I suspect that something has messed with this. Used to have similar on the days on my Nexus 5x and factory restoring fixed it.
Just get an iPhone… hahaa sure someone will shoot me
@DarthLord: They are no better.
Pixel 3a will probably have better support
Guaranteed security updates to October 2020.
Mine is almost 20 months old, works like it did on Day 1 still.
I would say the same, but mine shat itself a couple of days ago. Taking it back for warranty tomorrow. The phone just randomly stopped charging completely with any fast charger. In the car, in the bed, and using the external battery I have, all methods it will not charge. I have to plug it into the PC for it to charge slowly, and even then it would restart when plugging it in before charging slowly. Crazy I know, but after searching for the past couple of days, it seems that many people with the Pixel 2 XL have faced the issue down the line. Some later than others. But seems like a hardware fault with many Pixel (2nd generation) devices.
Here's wishing you get a replacement.
Thanks, and here's wishing you never get this issue. I read on Reddit that the fast-charging chip will give out, sooner or later for many people. If you do get it though, don't forget, you can charge slowly (just not with any fast charger).
@ThatsCheap: Fingers crossed!
Wishing it's at least a good refurb. I wanted to send mine in for the top speaker being crap but more worried about getting a turd refurb while mine is absolutely prestine minus the top speaker. My battery health is 98% after 20 months.
@reactor-au: Yeah after reading some of the comments on OzBargain with those who had similar issues, I am considering sending it straight to Google instead of JBHiFi. Since at least with Google, I know I'll be getting either a new one, or a refurbished in mint condition.
@ThatsCheap: Unfortunately Google will refer you to place of purchase unless you bought it from the Google store. JB hi-fi will send it to Telstra who are the assigned agent. That's from what I read on Reddit and whirlpool forum.
@reactor-au: Mine was from JB but Google handled the warranty when mine had a problem. So all good . They just ask for IMEI to check warranty still valid
@amigos: I will contact them first then and see, I guess milage may vary.
Maybe you tried but I had a similar issue and turned off the phone. Took a plastic tooth pick and cleaned out loads of lint out of the USB C port. Took me like 15 minutes as it was really packed in. Works perfectly now.
This actually fixed the problem for my work phone once. Definitely worth a try
Thanks for the comment, but it's definitely not a dirt issue with my phone. I have compressed air cans, and usually blow at it once every couple of months. Including the speakers. The phone has a cover and is pretty much in mint condition.
Definitely a hardware issue, as it has been reported by many people online, there is no fix for it unfortunately other than returning it to warranty or continuing to use slow charging for those out of warranty.
@ThatsCheap: Dang. That's annoying that's it's not fixed with a clean. From what I've seen on Reddit, avoid compressed air for cleaning your phone. One guy in a thread had blown dust from the charging port right up under the screen so you could see it between the panel and the glass. People have damaged speakers too with compressed air too. Plastic toothpick for the charging port and a clean dedicated eyeliner make-up brush to brush dirt out of the speaker grills.
It's a legend phone except the screen. I have one for about 18 months now but the screen was starting to have burn in issue (known issue) so took to JB HI FI who happily exchanged for a refurbished phone
Did they give you a refurbished phone straight away? Or did they take it for 2 or 3 weeks before giving you a new phone to use?
@ThatsCheap: After about three weeks. They send it for checkup and repair if possible
Had to go through 3 to find a good one. The terrible call quality moved elsewhere.
You mean still slow? /s

Anyone have any comments about if the Pixel 3a or a Pixel 2 XL is better.
Pixel 3a is currently $50 more.
Well, I'd take the 3a for the fact it at least has a 3.5mm jack. Resell will be better and over time they will drop support for new features in the Pixel 1 and Pixel 2, especially with the Pixel 4 around the corner.
Cheers
I've ordered the 3a. Hopefully I can get an esim from Optus and then use it dual sim when Q rolls out.
Congrats!
Pixel 3a XL rather. Better battery, better screen (sort of), better performance.
How does a midrange soc perform better?
Generation a head. There's a android authority comparison of the 2xl and 3a xl on YouTube.
Where is the Pixel 3a only $50 more? its $799 at JB or am i missing something?
Don't like the weird cutout on 3
Ah I've been looking at the Pixel 3a
Pixel 3a is $649
Pixel 3a XL is $799
Pixel 2 XL is $599I can also get an additional 4% off by using discounted gift cards you might be able to get some as well:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/discounted_egift_cardsBought 3A from HN for $590..just go n bargain
Pixel 3/3a XL all day every day. I had a Pixel 2XL, sub par display, dodgy USB_C port, bugs with display flicker and weird stuff. Currently have a Pixel 3a and absolutely love it.
Would go for the 3a XL over the 2 XL
I have this phone. I've had it since early last year. I think it's a great device. The camera is really good - both for photographs and video. The Google version of Android is great - I love the song identification function. I'll probably upgrade next year and will get another Pixel if the price is right
Shame that it's a single SIM
Can use two Sims one by one
The Q update should bring dual sim.
One slot needs to be an esim (currently only Optus post paid) and then the other slot can be used with any sim.
r u sure? it was never advertised. also dual sim needs 2 IMEI numbers in the phone
From what I've heard the pixel 3a has 2 IMEI numbers on the box.
This article explains that it's been seen in beta (yes I know it doens't refer to pixel 3a's specifically)
https://www.xda-developers.com/android-q-dual-sim-dual-stand…
Reddit seems to think it's coming to the 3a soon as well:
https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/bm1k2g/does_pi…
@henrus: yeah, but this is Pixel 2
Bought this phone back in February and it's super laggy now, camera stutters, slow to open, searching for apps lags, don't recommend.
Make sure there is no spam or bug etc, it's not common to experience slowness with this phone
what do you mean by spam and how do I check for a bug? I knew about the slowness but I'm a very light user and didn't expect it to happen, let alone so soon.
Are you using digital well-being
Nope, I turned it off
You can also get a new Pixel XL 128gb for $286 on eBay.
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-UNOPENDED-Google-Pixel-XL-5-…
Although many generations behind, it's still only 2.5 years old and has decent specs/a good camera by today's standards.
too bad, i am not a big fan of google stock rom…
Waiting for the 3a to go on sale.
i think they are only trying to get rid of 2 year old stock (v30+, pixel 2 and may be s8 soon)
I got it for $590 from HN, I was waiting for it as well..the lowest I saw was $629, I just went and bargained
This or the Pixel 3a XL? Hmm…
