First time posting, go easy :)

Was looking for hard drives for my NAS. This seems pretty cheap to me.

I picked up two on 16/07/19

how would i go about warranty if i bought this and it breaks?
do i contact wd or will i have to send it back by amazon?

    • Another question. Shall we pay import tax or GST as an import item

      • +1

i think you're just paying gst. amazon will usually tell you the import fee if there are any, but this product doesn't show that.

For Amazon Global Store products purchased on amazon.com.au which have a customs value greater than $1,000 AU, an estimated Import Fees Deposit will be applied to the order. Where your Amazon Global Store Order has a combined value greater than $1,000 AU, and includes products which have a customs value of $1,000 AU or less (low value imported goods or LVIG), both GST and an Import Fee Deposit may apply, but you will only be charged for the GST once.

Ship to Vietnam, at your cost (~$50).
I went through it with 2x8tb WD RED. Some suggest they have to pay, as per your Australian Consumer rights. I got ignored, until I had no choice but ship DHL for $70.

  • how much do you trust international shipping on a HDD? I am skeptical at the treatment it would receive during shipping getting here.

    • I'd say Amazon will replace anything damaged in transit.

      • i mean more like internal damage that might shorten the expected life or premature failure (warranty, but annoying)

feels like a lot of risk considering how far it has to travel with regular packages compared to picking one up locally

  • What's the difference between "red" and "blue"?

    like this one:
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Blue-Desktop-Hard-Disk-Drive/dp/B0…

    • Blues are budget drives. They're still good to put in your PC - I have a couple of them at home.

Reds are high endurance drives and are designed to run 24/7 for years in a NAS.

      • so for 10 bucks difference, even though I probably dont need the NAS drive cause I am just building a regular gaming PC, you will still get the "red" drive?

        • RED and GREEN both run at 5400 RPM spinning speed. If I were you, I would buy RED.
