First post, had to go back and edit it twice! Hopefully it's all clear!

    • +1

Congrats on first post. Do you know if you still need the original D&D tiles/board for this?

      • I'm hoping it's got everything in it, cause it's the starter set, but I'm not sure as mine hasn't arrived

        • It has everything you need to run the adventure in the box.
I have it already. It’s a great deal!

      • +1

It's D & D so you can always just draw up a grid on some paper and use your imagination for the rest.

  • +4

Bought it. There's got to be more than $15 worth of fun in this. My kids will be amazed that there's a non-computer based version of D&D.

    • +6

      No, Money Down!

  • +1

I have been wanting to try our D&D for a while so i grabbed a copy (going to ignore the fact that the reason i don't play is i don't have friends who want to play D&D with me haha)

    • Just get them some beers, and tell them to sit down for 45 minutes, you'll work it out!

  • +2

Keeping with the theme, there's also Stranger Things Monopoly for $23 (Prime deal)

    • +16

Yeah but DnD makes friendships, Monopoly destroys them!

      • Particularly debating about which of the 1000 Monopoly house rules variants to use (I’ve never seen anyone use the rules as written on the instructions).

    • If this was the Collector's Edition I would have got 2.

  • +1

Thanks for the heads up, like a lot of others I've always been interested in it and the show is a perfect fit so I'm in!

    • Haven't started season 3 yet, I'm worried it'll be a all day binge

      • Shortest season yet so only a half day binge hahaha

        • Haha thanks for that, only half a day of regret after sitting around eating junk and watching TV. I know what's on for this weekend. Lets see if a good dominos deal holds up for Saturday.

      • Haven't started season 3 yet cause I was so disappointed in season 2. Not in a hurry.

        • +3

Season 2 was disappointing. Season 3 is by far the best yet. I intended to just watch the first episode, and watched 5 in one go…

  • +3

Thanks! Bought it for my DM's birthday in August :D

  • Thanks just bought one for upcoming birthday gift

  • Amazing, love the series, this is a must buy!!!

  • +8

    Too bad you need friends

    • We can be friends?

    • +1

      Why? It's D&D, play with yourself 😂😂😂

      • +3

        Dang that's cold man haha

      • I though only DND you can play with you self?

  • +1

Bought, probably never get my son to play it but worth a try.

  • +1

    Cheers OP. Great deal

  • +2

Got a copy! Been following D&D and Critical Role for a while now, hoping this will be a good starting point to get my friends into D&D
    Thanks!

    • +1

A couple of guys I know run another youtube channel for some home-grown DnD goodness called Split the Party

    • +1

Critical Role is soooo good. Highly recommend everyone check it out on YouTube/Twitch!

      • I just hope to find a group that's willing to RP that much haha

        • I tried and gave up. With my odd/long working hours I can't commit to online either.

I just play vicariously through their series :D

          • +2

@Typical16-bitEnjoyer: It is pretty hard to find a group, my girlfriend and I went to a local board game shop's RPG night and everyone was just, awkward. Like they had never seen a girl before.
But I might just have to settle for that instead :)

  • Excellent :)

  • What age is this suitable for? I have young kids, the 11 year likes the show but not sure if her younger siblings will be able to play this game.

    • +1

That's a good question, I think someone more experienced might be able to answer this than me, since I haven't received my set yet.

The monster manuals have some scary monsters, but a lot of it is imagination/storytelling based from what I gather.

    • +1

D&D starter kit they reckon is 12+. If your younger kids are under 10 I think you'd struggle. You might want to check out Hero Kids. I've been using that, as it's cheaper, quicker to get into and the rules are simple enough so they can concentrate on the story. It would still be fun for the 11 year old.

    • I'm currently running it for my 8 and 12 year old kids. It helps if you've played before and even better if you've DMed.
Rule of thumb, from what I was originally told and I've found to be true over the years - an hour of planning for an hour of gameplay if you want it to be more than just a hack and slash campaign.
Not that there's anything wrong with running around as murderhobos.

Think of it as shared storytelling, with judicious hidden rolling so as not to kill your kids character right from the outset due to some bad rolls.

  • +1

Bought it, no idea if I'll be able to find someone to play with but ah well, my kid will be old enough in about 8 years

  • Cash into Stranger Things…

  • +1

It's actually pretty good, at this price I'd say great value. We bought this set from a local games store a few months ago and the kids really loved it (ages 7 and 11). I simplified the rules a lot for them but they enjoyed the content and as it is a starter set you have everything in the box you need including all the funny shaped dice. Definitely worth a punt for $15.

  • I want to get started with dnd but the reviews on this are..not good

    • Well, it's less than smashed avo, so why not have a try, once I get my set I'll let you know if it's bad.

      • Ordered anyway lmao

        • +1

Nice one! I'm sure an economist is gonna tell us we can't buy houses because of stranger things dnd starter sets.

  • +2

If you don't want the Stranger Things branding, the Starter Kit is currently $19.88 using Amazon Prime.

    • +3

But, a tiny demogorgon is a pretty good draw right?

    • +4

The two sets are completely different.

If you really want to play D&D that red starter set is much better value (or the new essentials kit, which is available from Target US but here in Australia not for a few months yet).

Each of the 3 have a different adventure. But the Starter Set would last a good couple nights of games and is very detailed, the Essentials Kit is a few games, and the Stranger Things version is over in one game of just a few hours.

      • Thanks so much for the info, if I have a good time with the stranger things one I'll commit to the red starter set.

    • Can you link us to this Starter Kit? Can't really find it?

  • Got one purely for the novelty factor. Thanks!

  • Ebay would not accept the promo code when I tried to checkout. I wonder if all sold out :(

    • +1

      Just worked for me.

      Thx OP, great first post.

      • +1

        Thanks! Have an upvote!

  • +5

I have no idea what this is nor do I need it. Some how $15 just got deducted from my account! #ozbargain

  • +2

Take this man's training wheels off, guys a star

  • How could i not buy this, thanks

  • +2

Oh the memories. Ravenloft was one of my favourite realms. Oh shit I'm gonna go cry. Had such good wholesome fun playing d&d all night, all weekend and over holidays.

    • Thanks for the story! Sounds like days well spent.

  • I would pay $15 for the miniature Demogorgon figurine alone!! Snaped it up

love the show.. season 3 was awesome.

Package includes - Demogorgon figure, and paintable Demogorgon figure.
    woohoo :) TWO!

    • +1

      Over so soon :(

      • The wait for season 4 begins.. It took more then a year for season 3 :)

Thank goodness the new season of Outlander comes out soon.. probably my second favorite show after stranger things

        • +1

          Oooh, I'll check it out!!

          • @RocketSwitch: Be patient with with it.. The first episode is slow and it doesn't really pick up until the end of the second episode :)

It gets to the point of Game of thrones where your hanging out to see what happens in the next episode you stay up too late to watch.

The writer of the show is friends with George rr martin and they have a rivalry with who's shows better..

  • Limited quantity available / 414 sold

LOL haha they have sold 414 and counting and they state its limited?
They obviously didn't see the Ryzen 3700X ebay deal sell out in hours.

  • I know nothing about this stuff, so you don't need anything else to play this?

  • Aww yeah work D&D nights now happening.

  • bought. now what do it do?

  • +2

    Cheers. That's a great price.

Just need some friends to play with now. Ones that 'Don't lie', preferably.

  • +2

Thanks all, I've lurked for years, and you've all been so kind to support my first post!

    Have a great night!

  • Thanks OP. Awesome price.

  • +1
