      • i wonder if he/she got it

        • +1

got the i7 in fomo before reallocation of i5 (the i7 allocation sold out then went back up too so I grabbed then), would have cancelled order and got i5 if they weren't so efficient and shipped my order so quickly :( !! paid a bit more but still a good deal

          • @ashpete02: Glad to hear you got one in the end :)

  • +5

I have released another small batch to eBay. There MIGHT be some more available after this batch, but don't count on it.

    …Adam

    • thanks so much :D

    • Snatched up one, thanks!

Just got confirmation of how many we need to allocate elsewhere and have put all the remaining stock after that allocation back up on eBay.

Most of the batch of 20 from 2 hours ago had sold and right now about 40 total available. Once they sell, that will be it. Hopefully they will last a day or so!

    • I have an unrelated question, is the yoga X1 you have in the store with 128gb ssd an old batch or something? Just because the smallest size on lenovo website is 256gb.

    • Not if anyone realises they are back! Thanks! Nabbed one earlier, was lucky to click and see it in stock!

    • Awesome, got one, thanks. Thought I'd missed out when they sold out as I was going through the purchasing steps yesterday.

  • I am pretty sure I got the last one.

  • Got it and thanks!!

  • Ended up getting one on second round.
Thanks for looking after us! 👍

This will be my first new laptop since my 2012 x230t which is still going strong. Hopefully this one lasts just as long!

  • Needed to upgrade my Dell Inspiron 7000, 13" 2 in 1 this year. Was very lucky to buy it yesterday late afternoon after intially OOS and received shipping notice this morning. According to the reviews, the i7 version is only marginally faster than the i5, so am super happy saved an additional $200.00 on this model. 16gb of ram will be plenty for the next 3 years. Thanks to the OP.

  • Hey Guys, I am thinking to add a 128G SD card as 2nd drive.
Anyone has experience on that? I mean any issues on performance or reliability?
    Thanks

    • People say the Toshiba RC100 has been working out fine for them.

I heard the Western Digital SN520 is an option as well https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/aanu2x/t480_just_…

Just gotta note that you lose your WWAN and ssd has to be M.2 2242, so that limits your options

    • No a good solution tbh. if you need more storage, the cost of upgrading the nvme drive is not unreasonable. the sd card can be left in the slot, if you prefer, for media consumption purpose. but apps and games run from it will be slow.

Oh woops misread your post before

I use a 128GB SD card as a second drive for my current laptop, works fine.

      • Thanks for the 1st hand experience

  • He meant SD card, not SSD.

  • Anyone got any postage updates yet?. Mines been stuck on information received by auspost. I'm guessing it hasn't been picked up yet and being sent by eparcel

    • Mine arrived in Melbourne today. Set to be delivered tomorrow :) I was one of the early buyers

      • Nice! I'm in Melbourne also. That's great ands exciting to hear

      • Ditto. Delivery is set for today.

    • Got mine today 👍🏻

      • +1

        Me too! It’s amazing!

Hopefully lasts as long as my x230t+egpu.. it’s certainly a massive upgrade can’t fault it at all.

On the hunt for a dock & egpu now..

      • Nice! Mine suddenly updated. Processed in Melbourne now. I guess they missed the documentation for the transit from qld to Vic

Received mine yesterday. Does anyone else have this same issue?

I tried to register for warranty but I could not due to the fact it was not within the grace period. It appears that this machine is already 3/4 year into it's warranty period.

    • Just checked & it's the same for me.

      Hmm..?

    • Yep same here. Hope the rep weighs on on this for us

      • Yep, something is not right. The product package has shipping information from October 2018. Looks like a lot of returned laptops.

        • +1

interesting. I also bought this laptop as well

    • I'm getting the same too! Would be a pretty shit go if the rep did not rectify this.

      Hi guys

Before I give you the answer to this, a couple of points. First of all, if you have queries, send us a email to [email protected] or ring us, don't rely on a forum as we don't constantly watch old threads on ozbargain.

Secondly, a general bit of information about warranty that seems to still cause some confusion for people, so i like to take the opportunity to educate when possible. The Competition and Consumer Act 2010 essentially removed fixed warranty periods in Australia. Its very easy to misinterpret the new act but to put is simply, The seller (not the manufacturer) is responsible for warranty by way of ensuring the products and services they sell meet what they promised over a reasonable timeframe. See Volume 2, schedule 2 here: https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/C2019C00149

Now related to that, the legislation allows for whats called a "Express" warranty, which is what you are referring to here. Basically if a seller (or in this case manufacturer) indicates a fixed warranty period, we are essentially promising that we will cover it up to at least that period, but in some cases the buyer may still reasonably expect faults to be covered for longer than that expressly stated period. If for example we promised a warranty of 1 month on a new Lenovo notebook, that means we would have to cover it for that period but 1 month but that does not limit the buyers warranty rights and would be considered a unreasonably short period for a new unit so even it had a fault say a year later, its likely you would still have the right to a warranty claim on it. If we offered say 5 years on the same unit, we would be obligated to cover it for 5 years even though by law we would probably not be required to cover it for that long without as 5 years would be well outside what a reasonable person would expect from a notebook warranty (the period is not determined by what you are I think as individuals, its derived from a set of criteria and interpreted by a court)

Another related point — you do not need to register a product in order to access warranty on the product. Ever. Manufacturers like you to register so they can keep track of who is buying and maybe send you marketing material, and sometimes it might make warranty claims easier down the track, but its never a requirement. Rarely, they might offer something beyond legislative obligations by registering, such as a very long period warranty, but thats unusual.

Stop panicking. You are protected under consumer law and more importantly you have bought from Computer Alliance, not some dodgy back yard operation or retailer that makes a habit of keeping ACCC on their toes.

      Now as to the answer.

Lenovo for whatever reason likes to stick a warranty date in their database against the SN of products. It would make more sense to me to leave it as null until they have data! I don't know where it comes from, maybe the manufacture date. They have no way of telling when the warranty period starts unless you tell them, or we tell them.

If you want to register the product with Lenovo, go to https://account.lenovo.com/au/en/signin?returnurl=http%3A%2F… and create a user name and password. Once signed in you can enter in the serial number and proceed to put in the Date of Purchase.

If it is outside the period they have recorded it should pop up with an email address to email through the notebook details along with the invoice to the Lenovo service team, who will then update the warranty. I believe there also is a "Incorrect warranty status" link available once you register the SN.

Ultimately, none of that is needed. If you have a fault, talk to us and you can send back to us to deal with, or contact a Lenovo service agent when needed and provide you invoice as proof of purchase and that date at that time.

So, thats my lecture for the day. Hopefully the information helps people understand what you should expect when you buy a product (or service nowadays) from any seller in Australia

      …Adam

      • Thanks for taking the time and clearing this up mate!

Okay, well because of that response any product that I need regardless of price will be purchased for you. Even from Victoria…. Tho you should open a Vic store

      • Thanks very much… I raised a case with Lenovo already and they have said check again in 24 hours.

I'll report back on the result

Good news… simple email to Lenovo fixed this up.

          • @Midz: Yeah, same here - I emailed them yesterday!

      • This is a brilliant explanation. Thank you for writing this up!

  • will this be available again :( !

  • I opened mine yesterday and it came with a dead pixel. I did send an email to sales@comp earlier today, hopefully I get a good outcome soon. Not a good experience if I have to send laptop I just got for warranty repair =(

What are the typical dead pixel policy here? Does every manufacturer has different policy?

    • If it's a dead "pixel" soz you ain't getting that fixed

    • Here's the Lenovo policy

      https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/solutions/ht035306

      On an FHD screen-

For pixels stuck lit up there can be up to 2 dead pixels (minimum 15mm apart) before warranty is acceptable

For pixels stuck not lit up (dark) there can be up to 10 dead pixels (minimum 5mm apart) before warranty is acceptable

  • So it is a bright dot on black background only, other background colours are fine. So it is under the bright spot yeah which means a stuck pixel. I'll try to use a software fix. Finger crossed.

For bright spot, N < 2 which means 2 is covered but not one, eh?

    • If it's dead its grey I believe.

      • Well, funny thing is, didn't even get a reply from Computer Alliance after I emailed them.

    • Yeah if it's just one spot then it's not covered as a fault, you need a 2nd one 15mm apart from it before Lenovo will replace it under their warranty terms. You could try your luck just sending it in though.
