  • I was hoping to get the dyson hot and cool fan. Anyone know if it's likely to be restocked or where I can get one from at a similar price? Thanks.

  • +1

Finally got checkout- my PODAIR code didn't apply & I was charged $249!

Trying my luck with eBay customer service before I cancel my order

    • +1

Same thing happened to me, cancelled the order, but rung them up and apparently ill be able to re-purchase with the discounted price.

      • I did the same thing!

Who did you call to confirm this? I thought they wouldn’t be able to apply the code retrospectively so was expecting that I’d have to cancel the order. Would be awesome if I could still get it at $99 though

        • +1

Just search up eBay customer service and scroll to the bottom and click call us

    • I got charged $243 for my AirPods. tried canceling my order yesterday. Today got an email saying the airpods have been sent and the address is an old one too. Called eBay customer service and they said seller rejected my cancellation request. There is nothing they can do. :(

  • +5

Tried every drop for AirPods that’s 8 in total. Had the item in the checkout with payment and coupon 4 times still missed it. Not my lucky day :(
Cheers to everyone who got one!!

  • Maybe Amazon will price match tomorrow? Their system is much better.

    • +1

      doubt it :(

  • waste of time

  • +1

Hooked 2 in cart and was firing multiple duplicate screens and ended up with 0 .

Thought I did well getting a couple to cart :)

    • Hooked 2 in cart

1 txn pp - so it would have never gone through.

  • I had the checkout page ready, spam click nada and then got bumped out after it said something about a change iirc.

I kept trying buy it now til about 1711 but no luck and to hear 2 orders got through at 1706. So annoying!

  • +2

    Tried all morning. Got nothing.

  • +7

friendship ended with ebay. now amazon is best friend.

  • +3

My first ever neg (likely the last)! Highly deserved it for the waste of time despite carefully following the instructions.

    • +3

There was only ever going to be 800 of them… you go into these things expecting to get nothing.

      • +5

I'd prefer if they released 800 of them at 10am instead of waste my time throughout the day.

        • +1

Yeah, it would be nice but I understand why they don't. The whole point was to drive people away from Prime Day. TBH I was surprised they were even doing 100 every hour.

    • Were you around for the click frenzy monstrosities?

  • -2

    thanks op got 17

    • What the? How lol?

  • Ebay this is not the way to fight amazon….and this is on top of the price jacking "discounts"

  • +2

Remember at the start of the day when people complained about 30 second sellout times?

It was difficult to get if you didnt ozbargain the site yourself, but if you began to ozbargain because you found out how to ozbargain from ozbargain you are up against 100s/1000s of other ozbargainers. And then complain that there are bots/dodgy seller/insider trading/scuffed system/amazon is better/wasted whole day when you purely relied on ozbargain to ozbargain and not your own ozbargain initiative.

    Thanks ozbargain, ez cop

  • Sitting here for the past 20 minutes refreshing got a good feeling something might pop up and guess what it did. :) manage to snag a pair 10:25 PM

    • congrats, I'm not giving up either, it's been sitting at checkout for 6 hours now- I'm guessing you just kept on spamming confirm and pay?

      • +1

I was just refreshing the ebay listing and it happened to show a few in stock and checked out like any other ebay purchase.

    • a few more sold around 23:11, seems seller has been releasing 10/hour from 9PM and probably was the last of the lot as I guess the code expires midnight..

      • code expires 16/07

    • Do you have the link to the original deal, can’t find it anywhere

  • +1

Got one at 11:11pm.. seems like there is more!

    • lucky you…i barely managed to add 1 in my cart until it sold out again…

      • +4

wohoo..10 more in the mkt..finally scored after wasting my entire day….

  • So I could have waited until 10PM when there isn't anyone expecting instead of wasting my whole day. eBay, you have really done it…

  • Did anyone actually end up getting the Airpods?

    • 841 people have so far

      • ?? 38 more people bought them since the supposed 5pm finish. A load at 11:40. Did they pay $99 too???

  • -2

Got a pair at 5pm by adding to cart 4pm after the product was set to invalid/sold for the earlier part of the day. I duplicated the cart window 20 times in chrome, then did a mad ctrl-shift-tab + click sequence at 4:59:50. 5 of those windows came back with successful order (all the same order number), and got just the one email and one charge on my CC. Worst eBay experience I’ve had after trying all day long.

    • +5

You got one though, yet why so sour? You weren’t expecting to buy 5 were you?

      • +2

I think people are genuinely unimpressed with how eBay have conducted the sale. I didn't get one but even if I did, it wouldn't have changed my opinion on how bad this sale is.

        • +2

I don't get what was bad about the sale? 100 an hour, every hour. It literally came down to your internet connection, pc and how quick you are with keyboard and mouse, fortunately awesome for me. There was never going to be enough units for everyone and if you went in thinking you were guaranteed a pair, well….

          • +4

@NixMo1: I went in to this thinking I had half a chance given that there are 8 runs. The fact of the matter is a general consumer never really had any chance given how fast it was sold each and everytime. If you expect a normal person to be able to click on the 'Buy Now' button, enter the code then enter the credit card details to complete the checkout process in side 10 seconds then there is something fondamentally wrong. People worked out ways to checkout in 2 different runs and were posting guides in true OzBargin spirit. I'm not sure about you but most of us would agree if you had to use a specific guide to have any remote chance of getting something from eBay is just plain stupid not to mention you have to be in front of the screen every hour for possibly 8 hours. Looking at the number of new accounts in the transaction history it's clear that many have used bots so I wonder who really benefited. I gave up at 5:15PM only to find out at 11:30PM that there had been more stock added at different stages during the night so what happened to stock only appear hourly from 10-5? The way I see this is eBay's desperate attempt to lure people away from Amazon which in the process upset many Plus users. Anyways, congrats on securing a set of AirPods and to every other OzBarginer who did as well.

            • @Sainter4Life: That's actually really odd. Maybe they've cancelled some orders and so the system has automatically updated the quantity indicated in the revision time, but still included those cancelled orders in the "sold" count. Somehow the updated stock during the night was also sold out in a matter of seconds.

            • @Sainter4Life:

it's clear that many have used bots

Not necessarily, they could be new accounts people made to get the eBay Plus trial. Probably just regular people following OZB guides.

              • @theguyrules: You mean regular shoppers never shopped at eBay before and needed to create new eBay accounts? I sure some are legit but you'll be naive to suggest there are no suspicious activities going on behind the scene.

                • @Sainter4Life: No, I'm suggesting regular eBayers/Ozbargainers had already used the trial, and needed a new account to get access to the discount.

TBH, most of the Ozbargain tactics here including the one I used could be considered "suspicious" as no regular buyer could have got one without the tricks here.

                  • @theguyrules: Lol, sounds like some shonky business was going on. 'Trick' is the key word.

                    • @Sainter4Life: I'm not arguing that, but the tactics were known to anyone reading the thread here.

                      • +1

@theguyrules: My point was you shouldn't have to in the first place. I remember the Plus weekend sale was much better, some 99c deals had less than 100 units and was not sold out in 10 seconds. The Dyson V11 deal was unbeatable and they had 1000 units in bulk so it didn't sell out instantly.

                        • @Sainter4Life: I can’t see how they’d do it differently.

A Dyson vac isn’t on the same scale of popularity as AirPods.

                          • @theguyrules: I was just using that as an example about having stock in bulk. The Dyson V11 was sold out inside an hour so for a $799 item, I'd say it's popularity is right up there. I think your might be over estimating the actual popularity of the AirPods and I could argue many didn't buy because of the product itself but because of the price. At the end of the day, you could double your investment if you do decide to resell. I have the feeling that many had the buy now think later mentality.

            • @Sainter4Life: I'm a general consumer. The first person to figure out the best method of buying was to spam the button would've been just trying it for the sake of trying it and others would have probably tried the same thing too.

I'm sure other savvy people (not saying all others) wouldn't need a guide to try spamming the button either.

The guide here was just confirmation that it worked.

              • +1

@unco: You are right, some found what worked for them and that's fair game. My point was this is not what online shopping is about, you shouldn't need to work out a system and wait an hour in between hoping you'll somehow get one then if you don't start the process again. That's exactly why I said I'd rather eBay just set a spcific time with bulk lot of stock so if it's sold out you know it's done. I much prefer to spend 10mins and be disappointed once than a whole day only to be disappointed again and again.

            • @Sainter4Life: I won't get too deep in to it but the sale as a whole ran without a hiccup on their end, hence it wasn't a poorly executed or a "bad sale". They delivered what they promised when they promised.

First time I tried to purchase the pods, I got through to check out without an issue. I was like this is too easy so I took my time deciding where I wanted them shipped to. Any way I missed out. Second time around got them. I saw everyone having issues so I tried to see if i could get to checkout again. I tried 3 more times and succeeded every time. As a matter of fact the 4pm attempt are still in my cart. Same goes for the v10 dyson deal last time, I had no issue and secured one. This all goes back to internet, pc and keyboard/mouse ability. All 3 are needed. You can click all you want but if it's taking seconds rather than milliseconds to process what you're clicking, well it's not going to happen. Unfortunate for the guys who missed out but there's too many people on fibre with overclocked high end PCs who beat your average mobile phone user every time.

Wish you luck in future sales, it would have been nice if everyone could have snagged a pair. Demand>supply.

              • +1

@NixMo1: Maybe I should rephrase, the format of the sale is bad. Getting to the checkout screen was not the issue, I managed to do that a few time but it also should be the No Stock message 3 times when I was spamming. Each time I had to go back to square ones, I'm on a high powered laptop which I would say beat 90 percent of what people use and a dedicated 200Mbps business link so I don't think it has anything to do with my internet or hardware.

                • @Sainter4Life: Hmm yeah that sucks. It'd be nice to know if that only occurred with the use of certain browsers

                  • +1

@NixMo1: I was on Chrome, maybe I should sue Google for advertising it as the fastest browser. lol

                    • @Sainter4Life: Sorry you didn't get one, but plenty of ozbargainers did, and the methods posted here worked. I'm not sure about the issue where your cart was emptied, as that happened to me at least once too.

                      • +2

@theguyrules: I'm genuinely happy for anyone who did manage to get one. I was only expressing my feeling about the sale and as mentioned before, even if I did manage one it wouldn't have changed my opinion.

                        • +1

@Sainter4Life: To provide a contrary view, I thought the sale was great. It was like solving a puzzle when figuring out how the system worked and how to game it. It would have also been fun to make a python script to automate it all but that would have really ruined the sale if it released.

                          • +1

@Hardly Normal: This sale was still better than what click frenzy tried to pull on us recently. THAT was atrocious to no end.

                            • @ATangk: I think it was good that ebay at least tried to do something a bit different, when I saw $99 airpods I thought there'd be no chance at getting some, then seeing they were releasing a batch every hour I thought "that's good, might actually have a shot at grabbing a pair in one of the releases".

It ended up being pretty hard to get them, but I feel like more real people ended up getting a pair thanks to the posts on here than if they'd just released 800 at 10am and the bots did their thing

                              • +1

@iMacca: On the contrary I'd imagine there would be more people getting their chance at one if all 800 were released at the same time. The bots would not have been expecting it.

                                • +2

@ATangk: At least if eBay did that, you would give it a go for 5 mins. You either win or you lose inside that 5 mins and you walk away either happy or sad for a moment and get on with the rest of your day.

                                  • @Sainter4Life: I wonder how much loss economically there is due to low productivity caused by these type of sales. Would it be equivalent to the man climbing the harbour bridge?

                                • @ATangk: Possibly, especially if they just released them with no warning, but I think they would have just taken 20secs longer to sell out. I doubt I would have managed to get them at 10am but thanks to the posts here I got a pair at 5pm.

Again, I think it's at least good that they took a different approach, maybe it didn't work out so well but maybe they'll try something else next time. Ideally it should only have been open to people who already had eBay Plus.

                                  • @iMacca: Minimum 100 feedback score? Or minimum perfect feedback score?

                                    • @ATangk: Minimum feedback score would be nice, as the last thing eBay would want is for people to generate once off accounts which clearly many did.

      • +3

I'm not sour at the fact that I have a pair. I'm sour at the lengths that I had to go through to get a pair — that was horrible. Discovering that it needed to be in a cart already and to button mash. Absolutely none of my 'non-techy' type friends wouldn't have the patience nor sticking power to do this. Had I have not had 7 other goes and the information provided here, how would Joe Average go about procuring a pair? Have a look at all the 0 feedback accounts that picked them up - clearly bots or similar!

        • +2

          Well said, couldn't agree more.

          • +1

            @Sainter4Life: Agree with you.
One thing that may have helped level the playing field would have been to release the batches at a different time within each hour not always on the hour.

  • +4

WTH they didn't stop at 5pm???!!!

  • I managed to get 1 at 4pm

  • +3

I duplicated the cart window 20 times in chrome, then did a mad ctrl-shift-tab + click sequence at 4:59:50. 5 of those windows came back with successful order

Thanks bogchop I'm in the biz of forever evolving m8 :)

    • @profar FYI was only one pair, just same confirmation window 5 times! :)

      • +1

I got a total of 9 confirmation windows.

      • I know , edited out that bad part :)

  • Dyson hairdryer sold out.

Was about to get the $10 postage fee during that bug around the 12:00PM drop back re: $99 AirPods - however it's in the form of a voucher for eBay.. they rejected my request to have it sent back to my PayPal.

    • +4

So much for free postage for eBay Plus members. They should offer the refund as well as the voucher in compensation.

  • Woah! We're up to 15 pages of comments

  • Good to know Google nests are worth $99. Will confidently wait for the pricedrop.

  • Still on the checkout page lol, doubt there is any left since the last one they sold was 11.45 last night

  • Has it shipped for anyone?

    • Not for me, although expected delivery is Monday
