That seems expensive, are they price gouging on the new mount? How much was the version for the DSLR's?
The closest dslr equivalent probably is the 16-35mm f/4 which goes for 1700 still, despite being a far worse performer than this new one.
That sucks. I have the Canon EF16-35 f4 which is one of Canon's sharpest lenses from centre to corners and well ahead of the f2.8 version. It retails for under $1300 with better pricing on special. Nikon/Canon used to be comparable price wise, but perhaps Nikon looked at the pricing Sony gets away with charging and thought they might as well try it on as well.

Great lens. I have sold my 14-24 for it. Unfortunately I could not use the lee filter sw150 on this lens.
