Introducing a super-telephoto lens to the Canon RF lens lineup, the Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM lens is great for sports and wildlife shooting with your Canon EOS R Mirrorless camera. Also of benefit to Sports and Wildlife users which will be using this lens proudly, is the fast and accurate Dual Nano USM AF system.

Ridiculously expensive lens for the specs. Sony 200-600mm is around 2k. Canon RF really needs third party lenses

      Yeah and f/7.1 at 500mm is a bit….. poor…..in low light.

    • This is more comparable to the Sony 100-400 than the 200-600.

Not a fan of Canon prices but the premium in price for this lens looks about in line with other RF vs GM lenses e.g. 24-70, 70-200.

      • True and Canon do offer the cheaper 100-400 which can be had around $950.

        • very different lens to the RF 100-400, its more comparable to an update EF 100-400 (which was also expensive for what it was)

          • @Lonewolf1983: Yeah im just saying for budget conscious theres the RF 100-400 as an option. I own one but gonna sell it as I upgraded to a 400mm prime now.

Canon dont quite hit the sweet spot price wise. The 100-400 has a lot of drawbacks and 100-500 just so expensive.

    • Yes dreaming of 3rd party support one day….
The Sony 200-600 is for some reason very cheap in australia - was surprised when i looked a while back.

The real issue with the 100-500 is now the 200-800 - which for birders is the better option in many respects at a lower price point

I am, what is the word, impressed by the "save just a bit less than 0.3%" that the $10 off represents.

  • Slooooow lens

An F4.5 to 7.1, with such a massive zoom range (and resulting vignetting) for RRP$4200?!?! Canon are on drugs.
They think they can slap on a white case with red ring and people will come flocking at any price because it's a "pro series lens".
    Absolute rubbish.

No way a slow 7.1 should be asking anywhere near this price. Mutton dressed as lamb.

I love my F2.8 70-200 IS. THAT I can understand as a price point. But Canon's RF pricing has got to be killing its market share. Absolute rip off.
I've been Canon my whole life, but if they keep this crap up I'm looking elsewhere. And the competition gap is no where near as big as it used to be.
Some damn fine lenses out there these days, from manufacturers I would have scoffed at 10 years ago.

My thoughts as well. Some Sony equivalent lenses can be bought for much cheaper and are actually better e.g. 50mm 1.2 Sony lens is sharper, smaller, faster AF and is cheaper.

Saying that Sony is now ripping people off with camera prices with the ridiculous A1 price and no competitive camera in the same price range as the r5

  • i think this is a good price. thanks for sharing OP. almost same as the black friday price year 2024.

people commenting about slow camera it is. theres no other choice unless you want yo go prime lens which wont have as much zoom/versatility.

link to show reason why I bought this for motorsports.
