  • Will these work through a window? Won't get the glare at night?

    • +1

They don’t work through glass if you have the IR turned on. You just see white lights reflected through the window

    • Yes if you turn off the IR light. I have one behind glass and it works well. I believe there are different versions of this camera out there, one could the display the correct timezone and the other one doesn’t; I have both but don’t know how to distinguish them.

  • no ethernet, no PoE, wifi 4 2.4Ghz only……

I used to be a huge xiaomi fanboy, but refusing to buy any more of their products since 5 of my xiaomi dafangs were bricked in march. https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/b2i74d/xiaomi_dafan…

    • In ur link, 1 user reported sending email with MAC & screenshot of purchase to support & now fixed??

      • +2

I sent them an email also.
        Never heard back from them…

        • +2

Likewise 3 bricked no response, although with one I can get pictures when it detects movement but no live images.

Wouldnt trust anything but an international unit in case they play the same game again

            @RockyRaccoon: update firmware fixes it

            • @furythree: Would you care to point me in the direct on getting this. Thanks

              • @RockyRaccoon: connect to the camera with a short reset (i.e. dont hold the reset button for more than 3 seconds, let go as soon as it makes a sound) a long reset will flash it back to original factory firmware

after you have connected, it will give you the mainland error. But the trick is after you select the camera, there is a short delay before the mainland message loads, tap the 3 dot menu and select the general settings

you then get the mainland blocker message but after you clear it, the general settings menu will remain active where you can then go to the firware update menu. Keep updating it like 4-5times until its up to date.

relaunch the app and it will no longer be bricked.

This is for android. so you might need to borrow a friends phone, or use an android tv box to do this

        • ill take your bricked ones for postage cost if you dont want them

          • @furythree: Thanks for the offer but I really dont see any value for me in that. Zero gain for me. But I like your style…😀

            • @RockyRaccoon: in all seriousness i would buy them off you for a nominal amount if you dont want them

      • +2

And one from spain and another from serbia reported no response …..

    • +2

I don't understand why ppl neg you. I have a similar experience with my 2 dafangs

update to the latest firware by tapping settings before the message pops up

    • Has anyone had more luck with the US-based Wyze versions of the traditional Xiaofang cameras?

    • -2

update to the latest firmware it unbricks

      • Nope on latest firmware it says "Use only in mainland China This product is only used in mainland China".

        • Thats because what you have isnt the latest firmware

          which version are you on

most people see the mainland china message and think thats the latest version. There is a workaround to bypass it and update the firmware

after you have connected to the camera, before the mainland error, there is a short delay before the mainland message loads, tap the 3 dot menu and select the general settings

you then get the mainland blocker message but after you clear it, the general settings menu will remain active where you can then go to the firware update menu. Keep updating it like 4-5times until its up to date.

relaunch the app and it will no longer be bricked.

      • How can you update the firmware of the bricked Camera? It doesn't even connect to the network and appears offline in Mi Home App.

      • yes downvote me without doing your research guys

        enjoy your bricked cameras

        • how do you update the firmware with those who can add the camera but stuck at connecting afterwards and not showing the mainland message? all 2 of the camera are like that.

          • @siuol: do a hard reset - hold reset for 10-15 seconds
            download the latest mijia app

sometimes i have to connect directly to the camera AP via wifi settings instead of the app

in any case, resets and restarting the app from scratch and being close to the router usually helps

if u hold reset a short amount of time all it does is reset the connection but the hard reset redoes the firmware too

    • You can’t unbrick them. I ended up using custom firmware https://github.com/samtap/fang-hacks/blob/master/README.md

    • I recently bought “international” versions of their cameras, to avoid future firmware bricking. I believe they block the “China/domestic” versions only (when used outside of China).

  • Is this an older model? I noticed there are several XIAOMI MIJIA 360 Degree cameras on Banggood.

  • +2

Good camera, but buy the International version to avoid your camera from being geo-bricked.

    • Could you elaborate on that? And do you mean this version?

      • Exactly - spend the little extra and save possible grief later

        • +1

How does the international version actually differ? I'm not familiar with these cameras.

          • @Duckman: Sold by Xiaomi in other countries such as Europe and India. The Xafang and Dafang cameras are 3rd party products not made by Xiaomi.

            • @Clear: Thank you. So do they actually differ in terms of hardware or software or both? And would you agree with the recommendation to buy the international version?

              • +1

@Duckman: yes and no. They have different mac addresses (or something like that) if the server detects that you are outside China, then it rejects the connection and locks you out. If its the international version it allows it to connect. You need the connection to use. Maybe someone more technical will give a more accurate answer but in effect what i am saying is the result.

Also look around ebay when 15% is off I have picked up an international version locally for around $55-56 inc GST

                • @RockyRaccoon: Okay, thanks very much for the explanation and advice. I will wait for a deal on the international version!

    • Interesting. I bought mine from a Xiaomi store in mainland China and I've had no issues.

  • Anyone know if these IR LEDs have the red glow or not?

    • +1

They do not glow red. Can’t tell when looking at them that IR is on. It’s not obvious to me anyway. I have a camera from a different brand (cheaper) and you can tell the red IR comes on with that one.

  • I bought one of these about a month ago and it just arrived on Friday, impressed with the image quality even in IR. One of the most impressive things was how you set it up with the app - throw a QR code on your screen in front of the camera and it calibrates and connects automatically, stellar idea.
