  • Does it support audible?

  • Got one of these but it’s been sitting there doing nothing. Any ideas of what I can use it for?

I use mine to play the Baby shark song.

      • hahahah baby shark

      • Mine plays Pete the Cat

    • Google alexa skills. Plenty of things to do.

    • I've got four 2nd gen in the house after the whole "2 for $20" audible deal: three in bedrooms and one in the common area. Linked them to smart lights all over the house, and a few smart plugs. Automated all sorts of things: cuppa in the morning, lights on/off at command or on schedules, family wake up routines (music + lights in each room), night lights when the kids are sick. Sports and traffic reports.

Gonna set up a plex (music) server on the holidays with a spare raspberry pi and use the Echo to play my music library on command.

      Love 'em.

      • You seem like an expert! Can this or even the google mini be linked to work with the Xiaomi smart plug or Xiaomi gateway in general?

        • Unfortunately no direct integration for Xiaomi Gateway with Alexa or Google Assistant. You need to set up HomeAssistant running on a Raspberry PI (easily another $100) and a few hours of your time to configure HomeAssistant.
This is because the Xiaomi Gateway only works with the China servers (not the Singapore ones).

          • @merill: I believe this recently changed. I now have my Yeelight Xiaomi lights set up via the Singapore servers, but can still control them with my Gateway (via buttons and switches).

Long story short, I can control my lights via both Google Home and the Xiaomi Gateway. This was not possible last year.

            • @Kontiki: Correct the Yeelight does integrate with Alexa but not the Gateway. The question on this thread was about the Gateway which only works with the China server.

              • @merill: Yes I got it the wrong way around: Google Home now supports the China servers, but not the Gateway. It's good though, I no longer have to choose between voice control or gateway control for the Yeelights. They can do both simultaneously if you set them to China.

Not sure for how long though, with all these bans going on.

It’s so Jeff Bezos can listen to you masturbate.

      • +2

only if u call out alexa's name first….

        • How does it know what you have said to know you have said it?
They also have multiple response names, you just turn them "off" or on.
Also found a weird list of recordings of my commands. A couple we me just rambling.

  • Can i use this to play Indian song?

    • +1

Yes you can..it plays song from amazon music library

      LOL who downvoted you? XD

These may not have Google search or assistant behind them but for using solely in a voice activated smart home, these are great. Far quicker at performing actions and simple response like “Ok” rather than Google Assistant’s “Ok, turning the lounge light off”.

If you’re only wanting to use smart plugs and switches and no other function, these are far better IMO.

    • Yeah, I found it better than Google, then again google was a bit late to the party!

    • +2

Agree. I much prefer Alexa for controlling my smart home products. Much better at detecting commands, quicker to respond, and can do things without a verbal response (nothing is more annoying than my Google Home telling me it's just turned on/off the lights…)

      • +5

Literally just set up my new Google home mini. Was able to get it to not respond by activating Night Mode permanently.

        • Wow. Did not know this. Think you might have just made my weekend. I’ll give it a try tonight.

    • I have both google mini and this echo
The echo sounds a lot better also found that google response time is not as good or sometimes doesn’t respond at all. Alexa is a much better product IMO

  • international model so what plug would they have for power?

    Edit: Aus Plug.

Also, Charcoal model is $4 more

  • If amazon price match? Prefer buying from them plus cash back. I don’t really need it though

    • Amazon would not price match anything
      I have tried
but sometimes, it would do it in the silence

  • +1

Would JB ever price match these?

    • +1

Nope. Just tried. They won’t match Kogan as it’s online only.

      • Didnt think so but hoped it had changed, I wouldnt mind a 3rd 😂🤙
(Im broke but have a JB gift card with leftovers on it)
