Mini Hi Fi System

Model: H10

The vacuum tube in the H10 creates a second harmonics to the sound source and this gives a richer and warmer sound to human voice and guitar sound. This is great for listening to acoustic instruments and vocal singing. Play music from your smartphone using an AUX cable, or simply use a USB flash drive and experience the incredibly vivid sound of the H10 Mini Hi Fi System.

I have had one of these for a bit over 2 years. Great sounding little system. Well made with quality connections supplied. I have used it on the tv in my family room for music and movies and just recently moved it to the tv in my bedroom.

The specs alone don't convey how nice this sounds. Its only 6w + 6w but it goes plenty loud enough for sensible listening volumes. There will be nay sayers that will point out that using the valves to add a second harmonic is adding distortion. Not true, I cant hear it, it just sounds easy to listen too and for extended periods. Not too bright, but clear and airy if that makes sense.

Should add at this point that have I previously worked in the audio industry in Canberra selling hifi and home theatre systems at a specialist shop, and while I don't consider myself an audiophile, I do appreciate decent sound.

Anyhow, at this price its worth look and is far better sounding than any equivalently priced micro/mini system as well as many far higher priced as well. I later added a $100.00 used Canton AS10 subwoofer and it now has better sound quality than any soundbar that I have bothered to listen too. So much so I purchased a second one yesterday to put back in the family room.

Also if you sign up to Soniq's newsletter you can also get a $10.00 coupon to use on your first purchase, which brings it down to $169.00 delivered.

  • "was $999"…

    • before that was $19,999

    • Yeah, it sounds ridiculous to me as well but there is one guy that paid $999.00 according to his review on another site.

I think that Soniq should have realistically marketed these initially at a far lower price but at $159 + its excellent value.

      But hipsters love vacuum tubes.

Goes well with my Nixie tube clock.

      • Haha, I spent 20 years in the motorcycle industry……. I had to put up with hipsters before they were even known as hipsters. Back then they were just known as well, it rhymes with anchors.

    Appreciate the detailed post OP!

    • Not a problem.

  • Exclude my ignorance, but if you whacked a chromecast audio in the usb port would it work?

    • +1

You'd whack it in the AUX input and then, yes, it would work!

I don't think so. The usb port is for reading and playback of MP3/WMA.

A Chromecast audio should be able to be plugged into the rca in port using a 3.5mm aux to 2 x rca lead. These can be bought cheaply from ebay.

If you want to have multiple sources play through the rca input on the amp you can buy a 2 or 3 way rca switch/splitter.

Alternatively, you could hook this system up to your headphone out on your tv and connect all your required devices to the tv and use it for switching. This is what I have as a setup. I have an Apple tv, A Chromecast and a dvd player hooked up to the tv and the amp on the headphone out using a 3.5mm to 2 x RCA cable as mentioned above.

      Hope this helps.

  • Is the unit's power amp tube or are the tubes only for the preamp and the power amp solid state, Anyone know???

  • Its solid state using the valves to add a second harmonic. Whether its at the preamp stage or power amp stage I don't know. All I know is I cant really hear it. The cynic in me thinks the valve thing is more display than anything as they warm up way too fast to be like a traditional valve stage as per the olden days when I were a lad!

Just reread the blurb and it states that the second harmonic is added at the sound source which would suggest to me its at preamp stage.

    • So crappy brand 6-watt speakers and tube that does nothing, but this is a great sounding system?

      Better off with something like this;
      https://www.catch.com.au/product/panasonic-cd-micro-system-s…

      • Surely you're joking?

        Per channel 10W (1kHz, 6ohms, 10% THD) that's 10% distortion.

Single 10cm full range driver in a flimsy box that's half the volume and nearly 1/3 the weight.

Power consumption is a 14w compared to 60w.

That thing would be lucky to put out 3w rms per channel into 8ohms at a low distortion level.

        Absolutely no comparison.

And its the amp that's puts out 6w, the speakers are rated up to 50w. And that 6w into a speaker with an efficiency of 89db will produce 99db, which is well into the range of permanent hearing damage.

  • Anyone knows if there is any reasonably priced Valve Amps out there like Vincent and the likes?
