  • Excellent specs except for the pop-up camera that screams "break me, break me…"

    • Like most pop up cameras, it is supposed to have a rapid retract mechanism for falls. I'm curious to see how well it works, haven't seen any drop tests yet

      • +1

its not the drop that everyone is worried about. buts the dirt and dust that will accumulate in the mechanism.

  • +2

The flash has memory erasing mode too.

  • For the extra $10.XX, I’d buy from Catch - at least I can send it back to Catch for warranty (see as it’s sold via Catch).

    • +1

Catch is more of a marketplace like Kogan and Amazon nowadays. This phone is sold by TechWarehouse through Catch. In the fine print, it says warranty and 14 day money back guarantee requests are to be lodged with TechWarehouse through Catch, and the return postage fee is to be shouldered by the customer.

That being said, as Catch is Australian they should still be obligated to honour warranty claims if anything happens to the original seller and I don't see Catch shutting down anytime soon.

  • No 9T Pro?

    • Not officially announced yet, but most likely will be out next month. Currently it's only available as the Redmi k20 pro with limited bands and only widevine l3 so SD Netflix. When they release it as the Mi 9T pro, it will have widevine L1 and full HD Netflix support.

  • Is the Mi 9 worth the extra $50? This sounds like a good deal but not great??

    • +3

It depends on what you prefer. The Mi 9T may drop in price over the next month or so as it was just released mid June, this is just the best price I've found at the moment.

The Pros of the Mi 9T over the 9 are:
Will be cheaper down the track
No notch since it uses a pop up camera, this is nice for me since I choose screen real estate over a notch with a camera I don't use often
4000mah battery with an energy efficient midrange battery
Headphone jack with 24bit/192khz audio support
      FM Radio
Some interesting colour choices like carbon black, flame Red, etc.

Pros of Mi 9 over Mi 9T:
Only 3300mah battery but supports 27w charging (mi 9T only supports 18w charging)
Faster Snapdragon 855 processor that supports 4k60 recording
      DCI-P3 colour space display
Higher res 12mp telephoto and 16mp Ultra wide angle lens
Cat18 modem with support for speeds of up to 1200mbps/150mbps (as opposed to cat15 with speeds of up to 800mbps/150mbps on the Mi 9T)
      Supports 20w wireless charging

It really depends on what you're after. A Mi 9T pro with the Snapdragon 855 is rumoured to be officially announced, but no ETA

  • On their website it says box contains phone, cable and charger. No mention of a case.

    • Most of the unboxing videos show that it comes with a polycarbonate case in the box.

  • is this the phone that the next pocofone is going to be modelled after?

  • I recommend everyone wait, the price should come down $100-200 within the next few months, atm we're seeing price inflation cos it's a new release, RRP is about $350-400AUD for the Redmi K20

    • It will probably drop in future. At the moment, some other sites have it listed for 650-750 with some daily price changes thrown into the mix so it seemed relatively cheap. Hopefully in a few months they'll release the Mi 9T pro at a similar price

  • I picked the mi 9 se , paid $403 for the 6gb / 128gb version very happy with it

Still waiting on a Zenfone 6 'real price' for us.

  • weak phone all hype, just watch some reviews, those grey import s10e deals we keep seeing for 698 AUD will take a steamy dump on this phone, save your money

Are red and blue colours available?
