Sorry but : Get a Sawyer!
Squeeze or Mini cant go wrong…No moving parts and best value and performance. Sawyer should be Ozbargain folklore for hikers (along with a bic lighter and mora knife)

Trouble is that neither kill viruses all of the filter types should be used in conjunction with a UV Water Treatment or even just use a UV Water Treatment. (the most portable is the SteriPEN )

      • Or simply boil the water:)

        • To kill viruses you do not need to boil the water, depending on the virus temperatures between 60c-80c are sufficent the problem is the amount of time you have to mantain these temperatures makes it impractical in a lot of hiking situations.

    • Sawyer is great but this one is hi flow 1m/1l what is the much faster than Sawyer.
Sawyer must be used with spare bag/bottle and it is hard to use straight from source.
But there is a better alternative for Sawyers I personally us Miniwell Water Filter for years now as it is much easier to contact and clean.

  • Did a search online and found a replacement filter will cost more than $70.

    • Just regular cleaning and this should last you forever.
We used it for our expedition and it worked perfectly fine (7 ppl for 5 weeks) we just put a piece of cotton cloth around it and replaced it regularly to increase the flow as the water source was muddy.

  • Berkey filters all the way.
